Hypocrisy much? After spending an exhaustive amount of energy and media attention decrying President Trump’s tariffs against imported steel, the European union turns around and quietly does exactly the same thing…. Imagine that.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union will impose tariffs on imports of hot-rolled stainless steel coils and sheets from China, Indonesia and Taiwan after an investigation found they were being sold at artificially low prices.
The European Commission, which conducted the investigation, has set duties of up to 19% for imports from China, of 17.3% for product from Indonesia and up to 7.5% for stainless steel from Taiwan, the EU’s official journal said on Wednesday.
The Commission said that the anti-dumping duties, to take effect from Thursday, aim to remedy the damage caused to EU producers located mainly in Belgium, Italy and Finland. (link)
Having spent the last four years in direct confrontation with President Trump over the value of tariffs to protect U.S. manufacturing interests, the hypocrisy of the EU leaders is genuinely off-the-charts. While we do not expect the American media to report on this economic policy shift, it just goes to show how the prism of politics infects almost all decisions espoused by the leftists.
President Trump leads. Period.
Every single EU head of state knows that President Trump’s economic nationalism is the best structural policy for the interests of sovereign nations; yet they espouse a totally different set of globalist principles when they are in public.
The rules apply to thee but not to me, so says the EU.
Well said,Leon! Bravo!
Once recognized, it’s amazing how many followers sound economic policy can produce. PDJT showed the way, just as he said he would.
Gotta get past bad policies driven by political agendas first. PDJT leads by example showing how bad those policies are.
China has a strategic policy of killing off other countries steel competition. And it’s foundation is military. Cheap, dirty coal based steel, produced with ZERO pollution limits brings the China Communist Party closer everyday to their military ambitions.
True enough that this rabid horse long ago escaped the barn, but nothing stops a posse being deputized to find it and put it out of its misery.
Walk softly and carry a big stick. Peace through strength.
TwoLaine, the Economic Stick tends to be very powerful. It’s sad to think that the Free Worlds leaders are just now waking up to that fact
And PDJT knows just how powerful. Don’t forget the leaders of the free world (aka deep state) had bad policies and pushed those bad policies onto the rest of the world for decades.
They aren’t. Most have tariffed us to death for decades. We just had feckless leaders who let them steal our wealth and our industries and our minerals and our real estate because they and their grifter friends were on the take on the other side.
…as in grifter friends in our US Congress/Grubermint?
Those and all their collective outside donors, lobbyists, etc. It’s a free for all, just like Nitwit Tehran Nan and her $2 TRILLION China Virus plan that has nothing to do with helping American citizens.
What do you possibly ned even $1 TRILLION for? It’s UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!
whereas our current VSG POTUS is full of feck…whatever that is (but I do want some of it, bien sur)
“I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it!”
Winnamins…..
A repeat of what happened with The Paris Treaty, they tried to bully President Trump into staying in it … and then followed his lead.
Several countries did the same with moving their Israeli capitol to Jerusalem.
Several countries did the same with the Huang 5G.
“If you can’t beat them, follow them.” Guess what that makes President Trump? A LEADER.
AND on top of that…PUTS the US in the drivers seat!!!! Something that has been lacking for a long time. Imagine after 8 years of President Trump if you will, how the world will be changed…WOWZA!!!!!!
Now, if only we had a state department that established and followed a foreign policy based upon the principals of the constitution, then we’d be leading by example. Imagine THAT picture.
I believe the State Department should be the first to be cut. The biggest money laundering agency among the Uniparty. Remove the revolving charge card for all of Congress.
Remove the revolving charge card with a balanced budget amendment. Support the Convention of States!
The way Trump _handled_ the white-haired dude to get out in front for photo op…
“Lead”
“Follow”
or
“Get out of the way”
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Judging from a certain parade float (https://youtu.be/Lv1FE88JVps), I’d guess at least the Italians are on the Trump train… that presentation cost some BUCKS!
I believe the EU was depending on the fraudulent Paris Accord to keep the American taxpayer supporting their failed socialist lifestyles. President Trump turned off that ATM first thing. Now, they are having to take action to save their own sorry asses. It also means they are expecting another 4 years of President Trump! JMHO
That’s the kind of stuff Americans need to be reminded of that Trump had led and won on…..won for US! We have forgotten how much he accomplished in the first two years against all odds with the press on his back the whole time.
BINGO!
But Sundance, you don’t understand. The EU always takes decisions based on data from proper investigations, and those decisions are always proper, morally correct, and well balanced. So different from other less mature powers.
(Yes, I’m sarcastic, but unfortunately you will find 100% of the administrators in Brussels, Strasbourg, Paris, Berlin, and the Hague agree with the above statement, and do absolutely not see their policies as hypocritical.)
🙁
They’re more full of themselves than a Russian doll.
President Trump rescued us from an increasingly parasitic EU (Paris Accord, NATO etc.), and it should be interesting to watch the fallout for years to come.
LOVE your simile! Kudos!
Strange that China produces more steel than the other nine countries combined.
Where are they getting the ore from? How is that possible ?
Ninja7, I will make a guess and say that the Red Chinese recycle most of the world’s steel.
Yep. Before Flora Minerals closed their Zinc Smelting operation in Monaca, PA, my dad ran their secondary materials operation, reclaiming metals from tons junked cars. So, it would not be surprising if the US, Canada, the EU, and others are sending scrapped vehicles and other items to China.
China’s Belt and Road deals with impoverished countries around the world are a great source of iron ore I am sure, as well as crude oil and rare earth minerals. They are stealing those nations blind!
Agreed. Right now there are several African countries that are not very happy with their Chinese masters right now.
Hell, they even tried to con their way into an illegal weed grow operation here on the Navajo Reservation. Their bully crap of threatening locals with firearms finally blew the lid off their supposed hemp operation. One maybe two Navajo officials may be headed to the big house pretty soon.
Do tell, willthesuevi. Used to spend the bulk of my time on the Rez before retirement, have fallen out of touch. But still very interested.
The Farmington Daily Slimes has all the articles.
Hell of a mess. Reminds me of the McDonald criminal fiasco.
They get reclaimed steel and give countries like Italy Covod
China has a lot of geography, but yeah, that’s a lot of steel.
I think Japan and Russia are the most unexpected representations, though.
Adam – I know a lot of our scrap USED to go to Japan. I lived close to Portland, and saw tons being loaded on Japanese freighters. Can’t say how much now, I moved away a few years ago.
I also remember about the same time you couldn’t get hold of a shipping container. The Chinese were buying them as fast as they were emptied, to melt down.
Nobody really knows what deposits of minerals exist on mainland China. Then there is the fact that they are strip mining the African and South American continents, either directly with Chinese Companies or via paid off local government surrogates.
Also forgot to add part of Southeast Asia on that list of place being strip mined.
Ninja, China extracts tremendous amounts of iron ore and bauxite (for aluminum production) from Western Australia and ships it back to China for processing. My understanding is that Australia has little or no steel smelting or aluminum production capability in-country.
Australia sells the PRC 80% of its iron ore. China is talking about limiting trade with them over their calls for an international look at the Wuhan virus.
Gee, maybe Australia might consider where it’s going to get steel if it gets into a war with China. Maybe they should set up their own steel and aluminum industries?
It seems as though, throughout the Western world, for the last 25 years, everyone just jointly forgot how to think strategically. PDJT is teaching lost skills.
Doppler,
In order to set up their own steel and aluminum industries, they need energy, and lots of it.
Unfortunately, they went green, with huge amounts of coal reserves.
To all the Treepers who commented, Thank you for the information, some I knew, other information I didn’t know. This is a wonderful community where I get something new every day. Thanks ??
WOW! I did not know that! Thanks so much, Kroesus!
Australia has been going online for some time now to pick up the slack in Rare Earth Metal mining.
Love that gif. I remember that video well and POTUS b-slapped them as he moved to the front.
“Love that gif.”
Too large a file to add to a text message.
🙁
(I just tried)
This YTuber, Steve Inman, does what they call a “Ludacris” replay for protestors blocking streets and a car runs them down. And he plays “Get outta da way, get outta da way, move, move” during those. That would be good here.
Gang Way! Leader of the FREE WORLD coming through!
With all the tonnage of steel that china is producing Rep. Hank Johnson is fearful that china could sink into the ocean.
“With all the tonnage of steel that china is producing”
Gee, I wonder what those figures were before China was granted “Most Favored Nation” trading status, along with the passage of NAFTA, etc.
Hahahaha … perhaps they finally woke up after observing President Trump energetically kicking the Wuhan Virus out of his body. Europos … he’s not going anywhere.
I have never thought that Europeans understood genuine bold leadership and independence in the modern era. That they have all caved to one form of socialism or another really says it all.
GB,
A clarification, that I know you know.
All the “Western” european nations have moved socialist Communist, all the EASTERN, and FORMERLY Communist nations, have moved RIGHT, Nationalist and Populist.
Nothing like having actually experienced Communism, to turn people OFF of it.
Poles, Hungarians,…great deplorable nations.
Germany, France and sadly England, the ‘leadership’ of the EU, all CONmunists lites, moving ever closer to CONmunism.
Sad,..
Yes, exactly. I failed to make that differentiation between the former Soviet BLOC countries and the western nations that never experienced communist rule.
They are just like Biden…stealing Pres Trump’s ideas.
Why do I keep seeing my beloved Jeannie when you post? ?
The EU seems to be a little slow at the China game
LOL, Trumpetter! Good one!
I can only read new articles from links posted by Sundance on Twitter. Homepage seems the same for days. Is it me or site issues?
Try cleaning your cache and cookies, that worked on my phone.
Everything is pretty much back to normal here. Maybe try clearing your cache and refesh the page?
Hey that worked friend.
?
Wow. From that graphic, it looks like China produces more steel than the other 9 countries COMBINED. Which is ironic because I can remember when everyone LAUGHED at Chairman Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” that had peasants making steel in rudimdentary home furnaces.
Who’s laughing now? We let a backwards civilization reach a point where it can actually challenge us as an equal in many ways. Imagine where they’ll be if Biden gets elected.
The wonder of manufacturing export licenses.
In the year 2000, the Chinese produced less than 20 Million tons of steel
In the year 2020, they produced the 84 million tons.
The graph is a steady line of increase between the 2 dates or a slope of +3.2 million tons increase per year.
I know it is nothing but there is a zero missing, it is 840 million tons 🙂
I don’t know about the 2020 figure.
I recall reading somewhere that China has used more concrete this century than the USA did in the 20th century – don’t know if it is true. However, at some point they have to pay for it and if their economy is headed down what happens?
SteveT
Yep, I missed the zero here and in the margin of the graphs I used to support this comment. Yet the message remains the same. Prior to 2000, the production of steel in China was far less than 200 Million tons and on a nearly flat line, with NO SLOPE. The Upward trend did not begin until 2000, and aligns with Bush II, democrat run legislatures, Uni-Party GOPe sell outs, Obama and the bailouts for the fake financial crisis in 2009.
“Jellis girlz” – how funny.
They will never admit that they had no choice, but to get with the program.
