FDA Issues Emergency Authorization for the Use of Hydroxychloroquine to Combat Coronavirus Effective Immediately…

Well, well, well….  After the media went bananas trying to refute President Trump several weeks ago after he spoke optimistically about the potential for a malaria medication called chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine to be used to combat the coronavirus, today the FDA has approved its use.

WASHINGTON – The Food and Drug Administration on Sunday issued an emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, decades-old malaria drugs championed by President Donald Trump for coronavirus treatment despite scant evidence.

The agency allowed for the drugs to be “donated to the Strategic National Stockpile to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible,” HHS said in a statement, announcing that Sandoz donated 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine to the stockpile and Bayer donated 1 million doses of chloroquine.

The move was supported by the White House, part of a larger Trump-backed effort to speed the use of anti-malaria drugs as a potential therapy for a virus that has no proven treatment or cure. FDA already has allowed New York state to test administering the medication to seriously ill patients, and some hospitals have added it to their treatment protocols.

“Let’s see how it works,” Trump said at a press briefing on Sunday, referencing New York state’s efforts. “It may. It may not.”

[…] Three officials told POLITICO that FDA’s planned move would facilitate more access to the drug by allowing more manufacturers to produce or donate it.  (read more)

The symptoms are likely pneumonia or ARDS onset. This is a hugely important find if indeed this medication cocktail can stop ARDS in its tracks.

It may have promise for tuberculosis as well.

Covid-19 ain’t doing the actual killing folks. Preexisting conditions aside, pneumonia and ARDS is doing the killing and it’s a horrible way to die.

If the hydroxychoroquine and azithromycin cocktail can predictably arrest the ARDS death spiral, that’s a blessing and a miracle and a big silver lining to come out of this mess.

Any number of lower respiratory infectious agents can lead to ARDS and sudden death. The sleeping giant in the global death toll associated with Covid-19 is the silent tsunami of tuberculosis being infiltrated into civilized populations by mass migration (lawful and not) and geographic relocation arising from the globalization of the world economy.

It’s also being found a prophylactic difference can be made, so a different path and of great importance to health care workers. It’s not just the ARDS issue to aim at – although it could be the most important one.

I’m not a doc nor do I play one on teevee.

It’s zinc that is the active agent…hydroxychloroquine is the access vehicle (think “syringe”)…an empty syringe won’t help you…hydroxychloroquine is a zinc ionophore, using tech-speak…zinc is pumped out of the cells by normal ion-pumps…hydroxychloroquine opens a pathway through the cell membrane for zinc…zinc transport…

…this explains why some docs don’t get good results with hydroxychloroquine alone…you need to deliver the zinc to the infected cells to prevent viral replication/reproduction…Zpak is there in case bacterial pneumonia has piggybacked on top of covid19…

…so, covid19 can trigger a cytokine storm…basically, a cytokine storm is your immune system attacking your healthy lung tissue…this occurs rather late in the game for covid19 and your chances of surviving if this occurs are maybe 30-50%…and you’ll have a lot of lung scarring and chronic respiratory disease even if you survive…

…so, covid19 needs to be hit early–as soon as there is the least loss of color or trouble breathing…it’s good to have a pulse oximeter which you can obtain at the pharmacy over the counter cheaply…if oxygen saturation drops 5% below your normal, better call your family doc or gp…

…I’ve heard tell of an herbal zinc ionophore which is an option if you can’t get hydroxychloroquine through your doc…

            Prevention

…eating vegetables will give you some of the natural zinc ionophore…and eating red meat and fish will give you zinc…

I’m not a doc nor do I play one on teevee.

Thank you! The importance of the ZINC piece of this drug regimen cannot be understated, and has apparently gotten lost in the conversation.

The ZINC is what goes into the lung cells to prevent the replication of COVID-19 virus. Hydroxychloroquine is the “vehicle” by which the zinc can cross the cell barrier. Once inside the cells, the zinc interrupts the viral activity that leads to destruction of lung tissue.

That the 1918 influenza virus, known to be atypical, should interact pathologically with M. tuberculosis seems likely… Excess male flu mortality is consistent with the differential incidence of TB by sex. The fact that flu deaths had a mode in the 25–34 age group is also strongly indicative of a TB interaction; TB is a disease of adulthood, not of old age.”

To confuse the matter, most reports refer to ICU treatment implications, where this drug regimen has held (only) a 50 percent success rate.

By the time patients require a respirator, extensive lung damage is already done.

However, when hydroxychloroquine and zinc are introduced to at-risk patients earlier, results have been dramatic.

The drug cocktail, with ZINC component prevents the lung damage from occurring in the first place. It arrests the progression from COVID-19 to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. The earlier it is given, the better the result !!

Azithromycin is only a back-up, it does not act directly on COVID-19 virus, it acts on possible secondary “bacterial” infections that commonly pile on when patients are otherwise laid low.

          • This is about the use of adding Zinc for the treatment of coronavirus infections.
As I explained in my website(www.cerebril.com) about the use of cell specific carbonic anhydrase enzymes, Zinc is vital for the cell specific carbonic anhydrase enzymes for them to function in
            this equation: H2O + CO2————–H+ HCO3-1(reversible equation); Hydrogen ion produced :
H+ plus adenosine diphosphate(ADP)= adenosine triphosphate (ATP)which is the fuel of all
living cells. No ATP, the cells that are affected die.
These cell specific carbonic anhydrase enzymes needs Zinc for them to function.
In coronavirus infection, the zinc is displaced by the coronaviruses.
So, Cell specific carbonic anhydrase enzymes need sufficient amount of zinc for them to function, hence the addition of zinc.

This may seem cynical but it’s not — We need grasp that the broadly reported “death totals” for Covid-19 are not adjusted for things like medical error or other complications (like tuberculosis/pneumonia) that may actually be the cause of death.

Last year 250,000 patients reportedly died due to medical error. For our US population of around 360 million, that is a small number. However everyone might wish it was zero, we are lucky the deaths from medical errors are a low as they are. Hospitals, though life saving and a home of many miracles, are also a dangerous, sophisticated and complex place.

We need to pray for our exhausted health care professionals as they work under a quality of duress too many fail to appreciate. Their fear of being overwhelmed is based in the amplification of confusion, exhaustion and error. What a burden to work under. What a heartbreaking price of failure to live with. We need to be smarter about these things and appreciate the media narratives are a snake pit of hyperbole, inaccuracies and logical fallacies. They need us to keep our heads and buoy our humanity.

The death totals being reported are unadjusted for medical errors and the impacts of preexisting conditions. While there are plenty of variations from nation-to-nation and from case-to-case of Covid-19 associated death, behind the messy but necessary and wisely tracked raw total of associated deaths, there is way more going with the case-by-case causalities, particularly in cases where Covid-19 was coincidental, not causal.

Not a doctor, but as best I understand it, the hydroxychloroquine attacks the virus, strengthens the immune system and creates a pathway for the zinc, which helps prevent the virus from reproducing. The azithromyicin is to prevent any opportunistic bacterial (not viral) infections. Again, to the best of my understanding.

The key is the rapid testing and confirmation of the infection. The Abbot labs 5 – 15 minute test will speed up the diagnosis process. And don’t be alarmed by the reported case increases because more people are being tested and many are asymptomatic which means little or no symptoms but will be treated anyway. The key is to get the tasing and treatment regimen administered. We are so lucky to have uncovered this treatment but as the doctor said in his interview we will have to live with the fact that a vaccine will have to be administered to everyone. This is like smallpox or polio and will not immediately go away but will probably rear it’s ugly head next flu season.

When treated early, not one of Dr Zelenko’s patients has progressed to ARDS to require a breathing tube. Not one. Usually these at-risk patients (those 60 & over, and younger with pre-existing conditions) have a short window of 5-7 days before they are fighting for their lives in ICU. This window is crucial to begin treatment to interrupt the virus’s deadly progression to the lung.

Both previous ways had some success. Doesn’t that indicate that HCQ has anti-viral properties independent of the zinc?

It is a shock that FDA finally got the memo from President Trump And actually read it and took action. Like it used to be in America. Polio, we are working on it. Anymore it seems the FDA squelches knowledge and creativity in treating illnesses. Especially when Big Pharma won’t make money off of it.
There are many multi-purpose drugs that are “approved for ONE USE ONLY by the FDA.” Even if they have been used by one human I know to cure their cancer (not saying what it is lest someone decide to self prescribe something with HC in – meant to clean out a fish tank and die from it). Its a gosh darn dog de-wormer.
When his PET scan came up totally clean he fessed up to what he was taking. And the Doc said “we’ve known about this drug – but no drug company wants to spend the time and money fighting the FDA for the dual-use approval.”
Talk about an entrenched bureaucracy. The FDA is probably more entrenched with ties to Big Pharma than the DOJ with their former Demorat Masters. The FDA is like a nuclear waster facility. It is going to take decades to clean up.

In NY, the new China, testing has been slow walked. Those tested in Urgent Care clinics may wait 5-7days for a result. Healthcare workers and first responders, however, have a quicker turnaround time. Maybe we need to add high risk groups to that expedited list. (For those presenting with respiratory symptoms, Dr Zelenko hasn’t waited for test results to act.)

Patients in the high risk groups ID’d by Dr Zelenko need to begin treatment immediately, to avoid ARDS/SARS hitting them like a sledgehammer within the first few days. The window is short. The high risk people will be on a respirator by the time they receive their test result.

Listening to NPR interviews with several of their left leaning docs, it was clear that many of them would still withhold treatment. The reason – they claimed there was still only anecdotal evidence and giving the drug regimen might keep people from getting truly effective treatment. They could not define “truly effective treatment”.

Please share this article with everyone you know, fellow Treepers. Below is but a small excerpt of this very troubling and informative article.

“In China, he [Raoult] adds, there were “enough elements so the Chinese government and all Chinese experts who know coronaviruses took an official position that ‘we must treat with chloroquine.’ Between the moment when we have the first results and an accepted international publication, there is no credible alternative among people who are the most knowledgeable in the world. They took this measure in the interest of public health.”

Crucially: if he had coronavirus, Raoult says he would take chloroquine. Since Raoult is rated by his peers as the number one world expert in communicable diseases, way above Dr. Anthony Fauci in the US, I would say the new reports represent Big Pharma talking.”

  30. A couple of things from Rudy’s interview of Dr. Zelenko:

He is only treating on an outpatient basis, and only treating those he believes are at risk of being hospitalized and intubated. His definition of success is for his patients to not be intubated. So far he has been 100% successful. (I think he said he had three go into the ICU for pneumonia.)

He noted that in a person that is particularly susceptible (older with comorbidities) the time from diagnosis to death is typically five days. Thus his “hit it hard and early” mantra. He began treatment before the results of testing came back positive because he said he couldn’t afford to three days for test results. He said shortness of breath called for immediate treatment with his HCQ “cocktail.”.

Remarkably, he himself is at risk and is working remotely. His PAs and nurses are the ones seeing patients.

He has done all this prescribing “off-label”. He didn’t mention patients having any issues getting the medications.

He didn’t say but I believe he is beard-certified.

    • TheLastDemocrat says:

If FDA approval, can a state ban it?

      In short: yes.

The states can govern almost whatever they want, in the realm of health care regulation. This is a “reserved power” of the states.

Each and every state has its own decision regarding what a “physician” is, and what it takes to become a physician. Of course, this is extremely similar across all states. This is because the consensus view is compelling, plus the profession, going back to Flexner Report 100 years ago, has worked to get this one narrow view of “physician” to be adopted state by state.

Same for “pharmacist,” “counselor,” etc. This is decided separately state by state. States decide what “health insurance” is, and how you must conduct business to sell a “health insurance policy” in that state.

A state can decide any drug is illegal.

With the force of law, they can overrule whatever any doc or association of docs, or any clinical trial or pile of clinical trials says.

Needle exchange greatly lowers HepC cases? Acceptable in some states, and not in others.

The next matter: what can a doc do freely, and not get in trouble / when can a doc get in trouble?
      1. defying the LAW will get a doc in trouble. A doc who decides he or she “knows better” may act in defiance of the law, and risk getting: un-licensed, fined, jailed, imprisoned, etc.
      2. state license boards for the health care professions including docs are a way that a doc can “get in trouble” without being in criminal or civil trouble. An individual can file a complaint and the Board can review it. If they decide the doc behaved wrongly, they have a range of actions:
      severe tongue-lashing
      slap on the wrist
      do some community service
      do some “continuing education”
be under elevated review for a period of time

      have license suspended.
      have license revoked.

That is the State Licensure Board.

      Next is:
      Civil Case: suing the doc.
Regarding actual practice of “medicine,” a doc can do almost anything. He or she is largely NOT bound by any recognized guidelines, clinical recommendations, best practices, etc. Standard typically is: “common practice,” OR “practice recognized by a minority or providers.” Case law has set this “minority” to be as small as one practitioner.

You can get in trouble in a civil case for a few things:
outright failure to do good by your patient. Fail to diagnose something, prescribing something you should have known would be bad, failure to prescribe something you should have known would be good. –This can be hard to prove, except in genuine incompetence cases.

      Fraud: billing fraud.

Practising outside your area of expertise.

Exploitation of patient. Example: “remodel my home in lieu of payment.” Exploitation varies by degree of exploitability of a patient. Example: you could barter for the services of a poor person to a greater degree than of a wealthy person, so poor person is more exploitable with work tendered in lieu of money payment. Ignorant uneducated person more vulnerable than college educated savvy person.

Abuse. You sexually exploit a person based on circumstances: payment, influence over the person, etc. If you sedate a patient and then get sexual, you can get in trouble. Duh. If you get someone addicted (no pun intended), and then offer se x favors for the next Rx, this might be abuse in civil court.

      Criminal:

Some of the civil stuff would be criminal. Some times, the harmed party may want the criminal case to conclude so that the criminal “guilty” finding serfes as proof of the civil harm; other times, the harmed party wants a jury to decide a civil matter quickly, at the level of proof for a civil case, before the criminal case moves along, where burden of proof is higher, and review of the case is typically more systematic and complete.

Now, chloroquine looks very promising. MSM has to acknowledge the BIGGEST medical story of the year – but they cannot say “Trump was right all along, and we were wrong, due to our TDS.”

Example: ABC News headline: “FDA gives drugs emergency approval to treat COVID-19.”

They cannot say the name of the drug. Just “drugs.”

Imagine lying on your death bed with jackwads like this influencing your doctor’s decision to chloroquine or not to chloroquine.
Statistician Tim Morris of the Francois Balloux of University College, London, clinical trials unit was even more scathing.
“If hydroxychloroquine turns out to be useful,” he tweeted, “it’s a shame that this group will be praised as heroes and prophets instead of held to account for the misinformation and self-promotion they’ve been churning out at a critical time.”
It appears ‘experts’ like this guy would rather you die than try until the medical bureaucracy gives their OK. And I trust the medical bureaucracy in this covid crisis as much as the msm, intel agencies, DOJ, FBI, et al. And doesn’t he seem a tad bit jealous if it does help?

We Need unconditional approval NOW to treat citizens with HydroxyChloroquine, Z-Pack, and Zinc…. BEFORE people go to the hospital. These panic mortality estimates do not factor in that we now have a Treatment for this Virus. I do not understand why the CDC and FDA and Brix and Fauci continue to screw around on this…There is almost zero downside to this. The Feds could mail Meds to every address in the USA and it wouldn’t have cost 2.3 trillion dollars. I cannot for the life of me understand why this treatment is not getting more coverage than it is.

Maybe it’s because the powers that be would rather instill fear and promote panic for maximum political benefit, instead of admitting a breakthrough in treatment protocol that keeps people off respirators to save thousands of lives.

So what if Goggle-Skynet banned the InfoWars App for mentioning this new hydroxychloroquine virus treatment?

Watch this video from Sat. 3/28/20 before G-Skynet deletes it.

Just got thru reading most of the comments. The thing that stuck my mind is those famous words by Sundance:

You guys should scan the comments. Most of those people don’t want this to work, they really don’t.

Those are the people who politicized this pandemic right from the get-go. What will they all do after they dramatically increased hospital space and maximized resources like respirators, a new hospital ship pulling into NY Harbor ..and then NO new patients show up with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome / SARS-COV2 ?

Seriously, what if they are expecting this lung disease to continue unabated, but now we know it CAN be treated -and stopped- BEFORE the worst case scenario manifests itself?

All dressed up with no place to go, is an understatement.

  47. Don’t know if this has been posted yet here but the following article appears to contain the model results that Dr. Birks referred to yesterday. Dr. Chris Murray is director of the IHME.

Dr. Birks and Dr. Fauci should have quoted the best case, worse case and mean predicted values or told people where to find the model outputs.

near the demilitarized zone in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. We were not notified that we were exposed to agent orange. So, I have all kinds of diseases as a result of agent orange.
I have an expired patent the use ACETAZOLAMIDE(DIAMOX) FOR CEREBRAL EDEMA.
This is a Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor inhibits the actions of carbonic anhydrase enzymes
    this reaction in this equation H2O + CO2 reversible ——– H+ + HCO3-1. The Hydrogen
ion produced combines with adenosine bi-phosphate (ADP) producing adenosine triphosphate
(ATP) which is the fuel of all living cells, viruses like coronavirus included. No fuel ,they die.
Acetazolamide(Diamox) is carbonic anhydrase inhibitor approved by the FDA for P. Malaria,
high altitude disorders, for cerebral edema-acetazolamide passes the blood brain barrier,
for other forms edema, other indications approved by the FDA.

I contacted the NIH: for clinical trials of acetazolamide under the “Right to TRY ACT”
I hope they will do it. This can be done with other drugs (antimalaria)

This “TRUMPS” Cuomos New York executive order. “No pharmacist shall dispense hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication ” https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/no-20210-continuing-temporary-suspension-and-modification-laws-relating-disaster-emergency Note this may also impact Nevada and Michigan as if FDA approved for that indication they have no authority. IMHO.
