President Trump Announces 6:00pm Press Briefing on Coronavirus – A Review of Response…

In 2018 President Trump established a National Biodefense Strategy specifically to improve the speed of action for any biological risk to U.S. Citizens. [pdf here]

Following the initial reports from China, and in response to potential U.S. health risks; and anticipating multiple agency aspects of the U.S. government would need a unified command structure; on January 30th President Trump assembled a unified task force to coordinate all response efforts across the totality of government.

At the time the task force was established, January 30th, President Trump signed a presidential proclamation, using his authority pursuant to Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, temporarily suspending the entry into the United States of foreign nationals who pose a risk of transmitting the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The task force is coordinated through the National Security Council. It is composed of subject matter experts from the White House and several United States Government agencies, and it includes some of the Nation’s foremost experts on infectious diseases.

The task force is led by HHS Secretary Alex Azar and includes:  Dr. Robert Redfield, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health; Ken Cuccinelli, Acting Deputy Secretary, Department of Homeland Security; Matthew Pottinger, Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor.

To establish protocols, build out the larger response framework, and initiate proactive coronavirus measures.  Immediately following the travel restrictions, January 30th HHS Secretary Alex Azar declared a nationwide public health emergency.

Using the authorities created by President Trump; and in accordance with the declaration, at 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time; Sunday, February 2nd, the U.S government implemented temporary measures to increase detection & containment of the coronavirus proactively.  Effective February 2nd:

Any U.S. citizen returning to the United States who was in Hubei Province in the previous 14 days was/is subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine.

Any U.S. citizen returning to the United States who was in the rest of Mainland China within the previous 14 days was put through proactive entry health screening at a select number of ports of entry, and up to 14 days of monitored self-quarantine to ensure they had not contracted the virus and did not pose a public health risk.

All foreign nationals, other than U.S. citizens and permanent residents, who traveled in China within the prior 14 days were denied entry into the United States.  The temporary entry ban continues through today.

On January 31st the Coronavirus Task Force held a press conference.

The reasons the Never Trumpers are NOT going full pandemic panic mode is quite simple. That Trump boomerang could be circling overhead ready to strike. If they go over the top on this, Trump handles the situation, and it turns into SARs—-Trump has a big win. Trump is Mr Steady Under Crisis. Mr Sure hand. I may not be warm and fuzzy but you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. He is re-elected if he calms the fears and has the professional handle the situation. I have every reason to believe that POTUS knows how high the stakes are. He will deliver. I don’t expect medical professionals to endanger the public. He will handle this like a hurricane and pull the right people together.

SFO let 6700 passengers in from China and asked them to be sure to self-quarantine themselves (San Francisco Chronicle 2/3/2020). Most of the passengers were students from Berkeley returning from the Chinese New Year Holiday.
Now Pelosi is roaring on about the incompetency of the Trump Administration?
Who will she blame if this virus hits the homeless communities they created in the Streets of San Francisco?
How in the heck did we get such a large population of non citizen Chinese kids attending US Universities? Harvard and Princeton still hasn’t answered to how much money they are getting from China.
Of course the liberals will say we have to let these kids in, it would be discriminating if we didn’t. Well let’s see how these parents of USA college students feel when their kid is hit with a serious case of the virus.
Don’t get me started on if this virus hits the homeless in CA – they already have typhus, TB and overdoses – yet those deaths don’t seem to reach the pandemic parameters.

You raise a good point about foreign students attending American universities. My daughter was placed in a dorm with international students, and most on her floor were from China. And my son shared a quad with three Chinese roommates in college.

President Trump was proactive in banning travelers from China. I’m sure this headed off a tremendous crisis on US campuses alone.

It’s one thing to be herded. Or roll over onto your back and submit. Because you do that in the belief that the unpleasant stimulation will end. But when it doesn’t end, and you realize that it won’t end until you are dead or destroyed, all bets are off.

I’m not certain the Deep State really understands that.

Paraphrasing Jim Wright here “If the people knew of our contingency plans for if they were to revolt against us, they would have our heads”. Wright played his ace card, the gavel came down and the trial went into recess. It’s now 30 plus years later, they have become more even more ruthless and assured in their contingency plans.

But we WILL have a massive outbreak. The best analyses I have seen declare that it is inevitable. The catch is, most of us who get it won’t even know it, or will have mild cold symptons, as our bodies’ immune systems develop antibodies, fight it off, kill it, and we go merrily on our way. I expect coming spring will pretty much end this round, as the cold and flu seasons come to an end every year with the warmer weather. Then next fall, up it will pop again. And hopefully by then we will be in the final stages of a vaccine for it.

In the meantime, taking the usual actions in cold and flu season, washing your hands when you get home and before you eat, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, quarantines of obviously sick, and measures to slow its progress until spring time buy time to develop the vaccine and limit the extent of this round of it.

We don’t need to stock up on food, buy face masks, close everything, or do the other things people do when they panic.

And all I ask of the CDC and the government is that they not bull shit us about it or treat us like we are stupid.

Now, for the lasting effects? Everyone is talking about and in favor of repatriating manufacturing of critical products including medicines and medical equipment, and that is huge. That is a sea change, and that makes this the story of the decade.

I just wrote this into the San Francisco Chronicle. “Alarmism is alive and well. And for those of you who are harping that the Trump administration is not doing enough, would you have shut down the borders? Quarantined entire cities like in China? Restrict travel? 58 cases in the entire U.S. and all of them originated outside the country. No deaths. I’m not hitting the panic button yet. I think Typhus, AIDS, Cholera, and hepatitis are much bigger threats in west coast cities from all the poop, needles, and crazies that litter the streets.”

Great comment to the Chronicle. Not to nitpick, but 2 of the (now 60) cases were gotten in the US from close contact with people who came from China before we shut off travel from there. The most recent US case their travel background is publicly unknown at this time.

I really like how you didn’t mince words on the conditions in West Coast cities. SF and others better come up with a real plan for dealing with this or the Feds will.

      Yes.
One key point highlighted by Secretary Azar is the number of U.S. originating cases at 14 has not changed in the two weeks since initially diagnosed; but we are starting to get the cry that “we are all going to die” about the Corona Virus from some outlets and sort of from the CDC. Where honest warnings/precautions and fearmongering hype cross is hard to determine. And also the “not in my backyard” cries from some stats/locals about where to send those who have it. And of course the Dems are saying Trump is not doing enough. The global economy aspect does hurt us, but Trump said in August 2019 for US companies to diversify their supply chains.
The major number of the cases in the US are from the cruise ship Americans transported here. 2 cases of known person to person transmission in the US. I will start to worry when we have secondary outbreaks like those in Italy and SoKo.
We have been slow to eliminate air travel from those two countries and the 14 days quarantine may have to be extended to 27 days if the Chinese governments recent statements are correct. And fortunately the virus has not shown any mutations yet that make it an airborne transmitter as was worried about with Ebola; as of now only physical droplets transmit it and it is found in fecal matter – San Fran should worry.
I am angry that the media and others are putting out contradictory information abut this disease, but as I see it we survived the 1918 Spanish Flue and we certainly are much more prepared to fight this virus regardless of the fearmongering we see so often nowadays.
There has been a breakthrough on how virus’ operate and infect healthy cells, yet even the researchers would not fully explain how this could result in a vaccine without the protocols being followed as a new law allows for terminally ill people to use fully proven vaccines like with intravenously administered huge doses of vitamin C for sepsis; they struck to the 18 months to 2 years for a vaccine.

My understanding is science still doesn’t know why the 1918 flu epidemic was so deadly. They’ve isolated the virus from cadavers frozen in northern graveyards. The virus apppears mundane.

Whether these things become pandemics depend on many factors. Modern Americans are well-nourished, while 1918 America was still absorbing a huge immigrant wave from eastern and southern Europe. They were very poor, lived in crowded conditions and ate a meager diet. The tent cities of California would be the nearest parallel today

IF nothing else comes out of this mess, the notation that the USA has ONLY China (sole source) for their medical items and drugs, being highlighted…..could be one good takeaway …. ie: do something to re-establish such “in the USA manufacturing” sources…..or, at least, truly strategic reserves of supplies (ie: in the 10’s or 100’s of mil items!).

This entire CV issue is being “used” by the DS/PTB to mask the run-up to this renewal of the FISA court/spying that are due to expire on March 15th….. We really need to force some coverage of this more important issue NOW.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but IF China is discovered to have engineered the coronavirus in a bioweapons lab; regardless of HOW it was released, then wouldn’t any deaths attributed to it in any country be considered an act of war? Last time I checked, biological warfare is still being used, and the country responsible should be held accountable.

Now regarding this so-called pandemic, exactly WHAT is considered to be a pandemic? a pandemic is an epidemic of disease that has spread across a large region; for instance multiple continents, or worldwide. A widespread endemic disease that is stable in terms of how many people are getting sick from it is not a pandemic.

The CDC tried this tactic a few years back when they tried to sell the H1N1 as a pandemic. However, the numbers just didnt add up then as they do not add up now. Simple math shows it – there is 7.8B people in the world today – there is about 80,000 known cases with about 2700 known deaths. last time I calculated it, it was about .00000154 of 1% of the population of known cases and about .0000000857 of 1% of known deaths.

One would have to ask exactly WHAT is the real agenda here?

This livescience update (with link below) are helpful. Where the rubber hits the road is the death rate, called “R0,” “R-naught.” This is the percent of people who catch a disease that die. Our seasonal flu “R0” is said to be zero point one percent; a tenth of one percent ; 0.1% = if a thousand people catch the flu, one dies.

To know the R0, you need: numerator and denominator. These are pretty hard to get for quick breakouts of infectious disease. Especially to get the denominator. You have many exposed who have zero or some symptoms but their case does not get recorded anywhere, or if noted, the case does not rise up the information chain to get to the official tally. This is common, and serves to over-estimate the death rate: you do not have the full denominator, and the deaths are a lot more obvious and so way more likely to be included in any data gathering.

Coronavirus may have R0 of 2.3% – thus way more than seasonal flu. Or, it might be 0.4%. Figures are just now emerging. This livescience story is a good overview with recent data.

Either way: as with Hurricane Maria response in Puerto Rico, and everything else from UFO invasion to the Heartbreak of Psoriasis to the Thrill of Victory and the Agony of The Feet, Trump will be blamed.

One major achievement of Public Health is controlling disease by preventing spread at borders. This is classic. When our de factor policy is “do not enforce borders,” not only can we not keep out illegal immigrants, but we cannot keep out diseases.

Here, again, as with most things, the Progs are dumb. Progs are supposedly so big on “science,” and on governmental control of everything, that they like being in control of disease including quarantine. But they hate America and so are for open borders. The two don’t go together.

Borders are maintained everywhere. Between one African country and another, between one Central American country and another, between one Muslim majority country and another. It is not “racist.” But the Progs are already all-in on Open Borders. Now, they want to control Coronavirus?

    Um, yeah.

Anyway: here is a great selection from the livescience web page, and the link. FYI, for all of us who survived SARS, H1N1, and all of the rest of the plagues.

“What’s the death rate from COVID-19?

The largest study on COVID-19 cases to date provides new details on the severity of the illness, including its death rate and who is most susceptible.

The study researchers, from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, analyzed information from 44,672 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in China that were reported between Dec. 31, 2019 and Feb. 11, 2020. Among these cases, there were 1,023 deaths, resulting in an overall death rate of 2.3%.

That’s much higher than the death rate of flu, which is around 0.1% in the U.S., according to The New York Times.

However, the new study found that the death rate from COVID-19 varied by location. In Hubei Province, where the outbreak began, the death rate was 2.9%, compared with just 0.4% in other provinces — a 7-fold difference.

The study also showed that older adults have been hit hardest by COVID-19. Among those ages 80 and older, the death rate was 14.8%, compared with 8.0% for those ages 70 to 79; 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69; 1.3% for those ages 50 to 59; 0.4% for those ages 40 to 49, and 0.2% for those ages 10 to 39. No deaths have been reported among children from birth to age 9.

However, some experts have estimated that the number of COVID-19 cases could be much higher than what has been officially tracked and reported, according to the BBC. If that’s the case, then the death rate could be lower than what’s reported in this study.”

Because when a flu many times as contagious and deadly as the common seasonal flu you mention, a flu for which there is no herd immunity and no vaccine BECOMES another one of the seasonal flues as it most likely will unless it mutates in the right direction, multiply those figures many times. BTW, there were 34,200 flu related deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season.

I don’t know how many medical people I’ve now read or heard who are sick to death hearing the seasonal flu comparison and whataboutisms. Is your GP MD wearing hazmat gear when he treats you for the common flu? Would China lock down cities larger than NYC and regions with 60 million people for the common flu?

I also wonder what the real death rate is in China from “seasonal flu.” Perhaps it’s much higher than the .1% in the United States. If so, yet another reason the significance for the U.S. of this unbelievable, cataclysmic, etc. “pandemic” is being dramatically (with emphasis on that word) overhyped.

  31. How can CDC and/or Trump people give an accurate assessment of this virus when THEY ARE NOT EVEN TESTING MANY PEOPLE FOR IT. They want the totals to be low so do not test anybody for it and ignore it as it just floats around and spreads like regular flu. Most states do not even have any kits to use in testing that work properly.

The only truth there is to this as in regular flu is what are the disruptions to supply chains, social events, and travel. That is all you need to know. Regular flu this year has shut down a number of schools systems and some businesses. This is somewhat worse that regular flu especially in contagiousness.

This has been a world wide gaslighting experience for the benefits of the over extended stock markets and selfishly and poorly run global companies.

Would you go to a school event that has 20% or more flu sickness rate? And spread it around more. Good health sense says STAY HOME.

Trump I love and have for over 8 years but he values his precious way over extended stock market too much. It needs to correct 30% more to get to a reasonable value. Stock market does not equal the economy except for the very rich. So Trump will lie tonight to try to boost the markets and keep people calm.

I already have bought all my made in China goods and early in Feb I put my stock market trades into correction safe trades and I am making a ton of money on this so far last two weeks. Wall Street people are a bunch of safespace coddled herding people that long ago forgot how t o think rationally because they are always bailed out. And Trump wants to bail them out again.

There has been a breakthrough on how virus’ operate and infect healthy cells, yet even the researchers would not fully explain how this could result in a vaccine without the protocols being followed as a new law allows for terminally ill people to use non-fully proven vaccines like with intravenously administered huge doses of vitamin C for sepsis; they struck to the 18 months to 2 years for a vaccine.

The day Rod Rosenstein’s sister came out in panic mode, Dagan McDowell (Fox) had reported info from a Washington Post article weeks before about all the aggressive actions the Trump Adm had taken to protect America from coronavirus spread. She stressed that they were working aggressively behind the scenes while trying to keep Americans from going into any kind of panic. That was the responsible process to take at that time. Still is. It’s the Dems that want an early (and maybe unnecessary) panic.

Excuse me for disagreeing with almost everyone of you.
Trump should not be downplaying the risk of this contagion.

    A. Only three states have test kits. We are not testing all the suspected carriers, by a long shot. South Korea and Italy are already in crisis. This virus has a 14 day ( if not more) incubation period, and many of the carriers are symptomatic. We simply do not know have many infected there are in the US. The data is not reliable at all. We don’t have the means to tell. There is unfortunately a high probability that this contagion will hit the US very hard. Thousands have entered the US from China during the period when they could have been infected, and those could have infected thousands upon thousands here.

    B. There are not enough hospitals in any country of the world to handle this pandemic. 30% of Wuhan’s doctors and nurses came down with the virus which destroyed their response to the virus. We cannot let that happen here. We need to be building hospitals right now away from urban area, preferably on Federal Land where we can build them quick unencumbered by State and Local regs.

    C. 80% of Pharmaceutical drugs are produced in China. There will be a crisis just in pharmaceutical drugs no matter what unless Trump can pull off a miracle – perhaps that was why Trump was in India talking to Modi which produces a lot of off market drugs.

    D. The economic effects are going to be horrendous. Not only will there be massive dislocations and shut downs due to supply chain shortages, any sort of business that deals with travel, hospitality or simply has a number of people all at the same time like restaurants are going to take a hit.

Trump should forget about the day to day media claims – it is the long term on which he will be judged so he needs to be way out front leading the response or the media is going to crucify him for anything bad that happens.

  38. People should stay basically calm about this and treat just like a more powerful regular flu. If you are sick stay home. Follow good health practices and stay away from public places with many sick people. Cancel large public gatherings in areas of infections. This is what Japan is doing. They are assuming it is going to spread everywhere and just letting it go and saving the hospitals for the really sick.

Blockbuster news from China about COVID-19
    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/02/25/blockbuster-news-from-china-about-covid-19/

    Excerpt:

Here are excerpts from remarks by Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of WHO, at the February 24 media briefing. This is important news – contradicting guesses by the doomsters.

“We’re encouraged by the continued decline in cases in China.. …They found that the epidemic peaked and plateaued between the 23rd of January and the 2nd of February, and has been declining steadily since then.

That is good news, and not just for China. With no preparation and relatively primitive public health networks (compared to those of developed nations), the epidemic stabilized in roughly four weeks – probably due to China’s fast and large quarantines. That is good news, because other nations are relying on quarantines to contain the infection.

Also, this suggests that the doomsters’ predictions that the epidemic would prove uncontrollable in China – sweepting through to its four corners – are wrong.
