Benjamin Wittes ‘White-knights’ For Lisa Page…

Earlier today Lawfare founder Benjamin Wittes sent a curious tweet appearing to defend former DOJ lawyer Lisa Page; who was previously assigned to FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.   The tweet comes out of the blue; and there’s nothing currently in the public sphere or headlines about Ms. Page.   It seems rather odd:

(Link to Tweet)

My hunch is Ms. Page may have spoken honestly to Horowitz or Durham about her experience as part of the ‘small group’.  If accurate, and considering McCabe threw Page under the bus to protect himself against an internal investigation about his media leaks, Ms. Page’s current disposition may very well be adverse to the interests of the coup plotters.   [Additionally, Ms. Page had no involvement with the FBI FISA construct.]

Michael Bromwich is Andrew McCabe’s attorney.  Bromwich is a Lawfare member.

Perhaps the former Deputy Director is being positioned as the ‘fall guy’.

    Why would Wittes come to the side of Page then..? And from that… what does Bromwich have to do with that?

    Forgive me, I have had a few, but I usually am able to follow Sundance’s leads on these, even in open ended hypotheses.

      It could be that her testimony cleared Wittes and for that, he is thanking her. In any group of good or bad people, there are always some who do not sink to the lowest level of the group. Maybe Wittes was one of those and Page reflected on it.

      If McCabe is indeed to be the fall guy then Page’s texts (and who knows what else) would likely be key in taking him down. As such, maybe Wittes is just trying to start the process of giving her some credibility.

      Or maybe it’s a subtle warning to McCabe.

      I thought he was saying Lisa is talking. The one she knows about is McCabe. So she is giving up McCabe who is defended by Lawfare’s Bromwitch, (who was also sitting behind Blasey Ford in her false testimony about Kavanaugh). She will be destroyed for turning on them. Wittes is publicly pretending to “be on her side” while he privately works to destroy her or her “testimony”. It’s all about the narrative.

      At least that’s my take.

      IIRC, the initial reason the Strzok / Page texts even came to light within the bureau was because McCabe lied about something that would have left Lisa Page holding the bag. She pointed to a text to refute McCabe’s assertion. Reportedly, that is what got this train moving down the tracks.

      Now, the most excellent Sidney Powell has caused more Strzok / Page communications to be made public and others to be reassessed in better context. Lisa Page is seen to have participated in editing a Flynn 302 even though she was not present for the interview.

      Lisa Page is in an even deeper hole than she was a couple of weeks ago. There should be little doubt that she is feeling more heat. She has already rolled over on McCabe in a small way with her texts.

      It appears that she needs to make the biggest and best deal possible. People should be nervous by now. This looks like Ben Wittes is sucking up and engaging in mitigation.

Benjamin Wittes is likening Lisa Page to Prometheus in that she’s too beautiful for this world. Many believe that Shelley saw Christ -like behaviour and motives in Prometheus’ actions and subsequent punishment. Wittes is in love with Lisa Page. My impression is that Lisa Page is not willing to commit perjury and certainly would be questioned by Durham. She has the insider knowledge to fit together all the machinations of the criminal conspiracy, form the top of the FBI, DOJ and CIA, and possibly into the White House.

    Benjamin Wittes’ tweet suggests he may be afraid to contact Page directly and may not know whether or not she is cooperation with Durham.

    In the same twitter thread as posted by Sundance, Wittes posts some strange final passage from Promethus Unbound. Prometheus is a similar literary character to Lucifer (Prometheus Unbound = required reading by the Satanic Church).
    Prometheus is celebrated by Satanists. He too rebelled (betrayed) against the Gods (Zeus) and was sentenced to eternity of having his liver eaten by an Eagle every day in perpetuity while splayed out on top of a boulder as punishment. Not saying Wittes is a Luciferian but it’s a very strange citation that he thinks of when he “thinks of her”. This is the passage below:

    “To suffer woes which Hope thinks infinite;
    To forgive wrongs darker than death or night;
    To defy Power, which seems omnipotent;
    To love, and bear; to hope till Hope creates
    From its own wreck the thing it contemplates;
    Neither to change, nor falter, nor repent;
    This, like thy glory, Titan, is to be
    Good, great and joyous, beautiful and free;
    This is alone Life, Joy, Empire, and Victory.”

    That twitter post, and his twitter posts below that in a back and forth with some filmmaker praising her loyalty “Honest Loyalty” seemed equally strange. Those additional tweets in this Wittes thread leave me to believe that Page is staying loyal to team Coup.

    Like

    • aspade says:

      The passage is about naive passion/desire leading to a problem and adversity, but continued faithfulness to that naive passion will lead to all the rewards in life “Life, Joy, Empire and Victory”.

      This can have two interpretations as it relates to Page:
      1. Doing what you believe is right got you into this mess, and sticking to what you believe is right will ultimately get you out. That is to say that Page thought she was doing the right thing when she was working with the coup plotters, but the “right thing” changed once she learned more information. In essence to be respected for living and dying for what you believe in.

      2. It can serve as a warning that if she continues to pursue “what she believes is right” it could lead to a punishment akin to Prometheus. Or said another way, is she willing to die for what she believes in? The friendly or “white knight” window dressing is to paint the warning as “concern” for Page.

      Just my guess

      @ decisiontime16… Re “Unmaking the presidency?”

      Yes, the image is the cover of the book titled, “Unmaking the Presidency: Donald Trump’s War on the World’s Most Powerful Office” written by Susan Hennessey & [no surprise…] Benjamin Wittes

      Here’s a review…
      “Hennessey (executive editor, Lawfare Blog, lawfareblog.com) and Wittes (editor in chief, Lawfare Blog; The Future of Violence) assess the Trump presidency as it compares with previous administrations and relates to the writings of founding fathers, such as Alexander Hamilton. Their narrative reveals that although many of Trump’s actions are unethical and flaunt well-established norms and precedents, they are not unconstitutional. According to the authors, Trump has created an “expressive presidency,” in which his personality cannot be separated from his policies. Endless Twitter assaults circumvent his own executive branch to appeal directly to his base, and no staff members are safe from his uneven temperament, as demonstrated by the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director James Comey. The authors highlight the investigation of the president’s use of pardons and security clearances, lesser but monarchical-like powers, that cannot be contested.”

      VERDICT This book was completed before the impeachment probe in October 2019 so parts feel outdated. However, serious political readers and presidential studies scholars will derive much from this cogent appraisal.

    Perhaps Mr Wittes was not referencing Ms Page’s legal abilities…

    To get the real intent of the Wittes tweet, read the tweet as if it were written in the past-tense.

There are no innocent parties in that Group of Scoundrels — and I will bitterly cringe at any leniency given even those few whose cooperation is required to nail the remaining bastards (making the anything-but-certain assumption that any of the higher-ups will be eventually ‘nailed’, of course).

    Methinks Lisa is subject to the influence of flattery and Wittes knows this. Me, I think of another term POTUS used for a lying enemy . . . HORSEFACE.

    There’s an old Chinese curse, “May powerful people become aware of you,” something like that.

    That’s what this reminds me of.

    It could be as simple as the fact that she is looking for employment.

    But then I don’t tend to look as deeply as SD does.

    If Monday, Veterans Day is D Day, I’d be watching key friends and family social media accounts this weekend, very closely for any leaks or more possible code talk.

    If Barr is a white hat and that Notre Dame speech came from the heart then IMO he will strike before they can. IMO, I think the countdown has begun.

      Imagine if Monday morning before any of the scheduled public impeachment hearings begin, Barr gives a press conference discussing the indictments and informs that warrants are actively being served.

    We need to know the context of the photo of Ms. Page. Where is it taken? What is the event? What is the date? Is itaken after having lunch together or taken at some gathering of Democommunists?

    Context would tell a lot.

    I went on Witte’s twitter page. The responses were something along the lines of what does this mean, is this a signal…what’s going on. He posted a video/gif of a man’s arm with a sock puppet on the man’s hand, opening it’s mouth very wide and making unusual sounds.

    I would normally think the guy’s psycho, but I believe the group has to speak in code or give signals, afraid they’ll be caught meeting or by phone. Something definitely seems to be going down. I just hope it’s all these corrupt bastards going down with their sinking ship.

      When Trump started talking about revoking security clearences, I had a sense of demons rising out of the earth. In the last few months, I’ve had a sense of those demons swirling around. Is the sound in the gif a last gasp or something else?

      My take => sock puppet is hissing. Wittes is sending a message but not to his flock.

      I just finished Lee Smiths new book on Nunes. Last page, last sentence is a quote from his investigation team leader.

      Yet the Objective Medusa team finished the job it had set out to do.

    Maybe he’s trying to convince her not to take a plea and fight a pending indictment in court. I’ve always thought she was a weak link in this and if leaned on – especially having some young kids at home – she might be convinced to flip if they go a little lighter on her than they could otherwise do. But she’s in deep shinola at this point, not just with the coup plotting, but she has major exposure in the Flynn frame-up, particularly now that we know she materially altered a 302 upon which the charges against Flynn are based. If she wants to see her kids graduate and not risk seeing it only in pictures she reads in a cell while wearing an orange jumpsuit, she’d better start singing like Pavarotti.

    He seems to be painting her as some sort of do good er , upping her profile in a sense ..so maybe when the shit hits the fan she won’t demonized , harassed , ridiculed etc .. just my take on it ..

      Yeah, but why do it in such a public way???

      Only reason to do it publicly is to hide in plain sight, or the only way of reaching her. The photo itself could be a clue. If it is a recent photo taken of her that Wittes had no way of obtaining, it could be a way of painting a target on her and saying “we know where you are”.
