Report: William P Barr Possible Lead Candidate for U.S. Attorney General….

According to a report in the Washington Post William P Barr is the leading candidate to replace Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General.   Barr previously served as AG under George HW Bush.  The other possible candidate is Rep. John Ratcliffe from Texas.

(Washington Post) Former attorney general William P. Barr is President Trump’s leading candidate to be nominated to lead the Justice Department — a choice that could be made in coming days as the agency presses forward with a probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to multiple people familiar with the deliberations.

Barr, 68, a well-respected Republican lawyer who served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush, has emerged as a favorite candidate of a number of Trump administration officials, including senior lawyers in the White House Counsel’s Office, these people said. Two people familiar with the discussions said the president has told advisers in recent days that he plans to nominate Barr.

One person familiar with the discussions cautioned that while Barr is the leading candidate, the decision is not final and the president could decide to pick someone else.  (read more)

  1. Greg Jarrett on Lou Dobbs’ show:

As for William Barr, yes unquestionable integrity, a fine reputation, great experience – he brings gravitas to the job but he is an establishment figure at a time that I think we need a disruptor as Attorney General,” Jarrett said, adding, “Somebody who would vigorously go after corrupt officials at the FBI and Department of Justice who were abusing their positions of power and attempting to undermine democracy.”

Jarrett then concluded, “I’m afraid Barr is not that guy.”

So it looks like Joe knows Barr and served as a SC under him when he was the AG. Would sure like to get Joe’s read on Barr today.

Enjoy all the comments. Shows me how hard it is to nominate a good person in any position. Whoever is picked will have their entire life exposed to the public. There is not a person in this world
Who could pass that scrutiny without finding faults. Anyone in position of power must make hard decisions. Those decisions
will hurt many, but have to be made. We are so lucky to have PDJT, a man who is not afraid to step on toes. Anyone who tries to please everyone is useless. Give me a fighter.

THIS is the problem, then…isn’t it?

      • wolfrom1 says:

WSB. yes it is the problem. Strong independent leaders, problem solvers get to the top by making the right decisions not the easy ones. In doing that they knock down barriers and people on the way, making many enemies. This makes them impossible for Senate approval. A sad way to run a country. We end up with the compliant and weak.

I’m with Suspicious Kitty . . . . . the same words used to praise Mueller are being used to praise Barr. And Barr says many complimentary things (contemporaneously) about Mueller. He is Bush approved. He looks, talks and acts like one of ‘them.’ Is he a Globalist? We all know what THAT means. Any evidence that he suspects there are problems in the CIA, FBI or DOJ? No. Most importantly, is he a fighter? No. I see no evidence that he has that most important qualification needed in the next AG. . . . the ability and willingness to break the china and throw the pieces away and re-stock.

I agree, this comment from the WP article says it all, “At that time, Mueller led the department’s criminal division, reporting directly to Barr. The two worked together on the multiyear investigation into the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.” So he is former CIA, a pal of Mueller and was complicit in the Lockerbie coverup, swell, just swell.

Stay away from someone recommended by the establishment and the Bushies. How did it work out with Rex Tillerson? Need someone who is a fighter, bold and unafraid of the Deep State.

The more I hear about Barr, the less I like him. If these two are the short list, I’d choose Ratcliffe over Barr. The consensus on Barr is that he is indeed an “Establishment Insider”. Hardly the sort that is needed at the very ailing DoJ.

You couldn’t possible make a better choice than John Ratcliffe, who is a man in the prime of life, of deep, deep integrity, former US Attorney, former mayor (!), BA from Notre Dame University, JD from SMU, a man both rugged and as pure as the driven snow!
    Mr. President, don’t even hesitate!

CNN now reporting that President Trump has nominated Barr as AG.

  12. Donald says:

Come to think of it, Mr. President, America has no problems that couldn’t be cured by having a latter-day Elliot Ness, on border issues, on Deep State, on censorship of conservatives at universities (massive civil rights lawsuits should be filed!), drug trafficking, voter fraud, immigration enforcement etc.
Conservatives now need a win streak of three presidential terms with the DOJ firmly in Republican hands and run by a generational lawman who remains at the helm for 12 years or more.
With this, we could restore the promise of America and certainly MAKE IT GREAT AGAIN!

    Barr and Mueller…

  14. WSB says:

If Barr has already been confirmed for this job, does he need to go through another one?

    • WSB says:

Having asked that question, I found this one Wiki:

“Barr’s two-day confirmation hearing was “unusually placid” and he received a good reception from both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee.[10]

Asked whether he thought a constitutional right to privacy included the right to an abortion, Barr responded that he believed the constitution was not originally intended to create a right to abortion; that Roe v. Wade was thus wrongly decided; and that abortion should be a “legitimate issue for state legislators”.[10] Committee Chairman, Senator Joe Biden, though disagreeing with Barr, responded that it was the “first candid answer” he had heard from a nominee on a question that witnesses would normally evade.[11]

Barr was approved unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Chairman Biden hailed Barr as “a throwback to the days when we actually had attorneys general that would talk to you.”[11]

I wonder what new antics the Senate will pull out?

    Trump just tweeted this:

I sure hope Trump picked the right person and vetted him.

Do you think Trump was able to ask Barr important questions about what he is planning to do? Yes or No

Or do you think Trump will just “trust” the Head of the Senate to pick the right person! I mean the GOPe told Trump we only give you permission to pick “this guy”, and if you don’t we will not vote for him and the Dems will not vote for him!

If Barr doesn’t immediately set out to “take out the Swamp” … I think we will see how much Trump’s hands are tied.

Interesting to see Sundances’ new thread on this today, since Sundance was right that Barr would be picked the other day.

If there is one area Trump has constantly failed it is with shit like this. I can understand early on getting bad advice but now he should know. Trump likes to hire “killers” as evidenced by his trade negation team ect…….but something as important as the AG, meh…………. no reason to drain that swamp.

Trump is either not that smart or is not even being given a choice on picks and someone else is making them. How bad are things? Or is Trump really this dumb? This might sound bad but what other choices are there for what he has done with picks? Very few will feel bad for him if things get worse for him if this pick ends up being pathetic like most others have been regardless if it is fair or not.

      • George1 says:

Trump can’t be this uninformed. Some deal has been made. The issue is can you trust the swamp to make good on their deals?

You can’t drain the swamp by adding to it.

Seriously, if this is the best he can do, he should have just left Sessions in place.

I agree, you can’t drain the swaMp by adding to it, however, I do believe this guy might be better than Sessions since he can, if he has the desire, oversee and deal with Mueller, the Russia investigation, Clinton corruption, FISA and other abuses. The question is, will he do it?

    • Boots says:

I sure hope Trump picked the right person and vetted him.
You’d be better off waiting for Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy. The first will give you gifts. The second will give you money.

Trump’s out of his mind. I have serious doubts about his intellect. How do you keep recruiting people for major govt jobs from the same swamp that’s trying to impeach you, put you in jail, put your kids in jail, and ruin your life?

Far as I’m concerned right now, I’m done with Trump. Effin’ done.

I’ll vote for him again, but with disdain for his having royally effed up so many choices.

First SESSIONS, the “insurance policy” guy.

      Now BARR, Mueller’s buddy.

      Un-effing believable.

Good bye America. Your demise has just been hastened.

Buy every semi-auto “assault weapon” and “hicap” mag you can before 2020. Buy ammo, primers, heads, powder, and dies. Buy spare parts and parts kits. Buy MG parts kits. Body armor. Night vision. CAGE helmets. Get. It. Now.

  16. jack says:

The problem I see with Barr and the GOPe in senate and also the Dems … is this … the Senate will ask him in a thousand and one ways:

Mr Barr , did you discuss this position with president Trump?

What did President Trump ask you, what were his questions and what were your answers. Mr Burr you are under OATH, what exactly was said. Also, Mr Burr did anyone from the Trump team ask you any questions? What were they?

Mr Burr what are your plans for the Mueller Probe? Do you think it’s a good thing, are you going to stop it. Who did you discuss this matter with? We want all names.

Do you see how tricky it is? So back channels have to be set up and hope nobody squeals , or it is recorded by the CIA or 5 eyes. Tricky business.

Here we go again. Swamp is self-refilling while the “lawyers” advise “prudent withdrawal” from any potential action related to shutting down the Mueller operation.

Somehow every nominee somehow ends up being connected to the Bushes. Is it because there are too many shrubs around so one can’t swing a dead car without hitting one or is it because these invasive species already spread uncontrollably in the WH and are choking out all other umm… plants?

  18. Jeff Webb says:

IMHO, we the people are effed again!

  19. Boots says:

POTUS is “proud” to announce his pick of a Mueller buddy and establishment insider for the top lawyer of our country?

Trump must be stark, raving mad! The last line of defense against gun grabs, Muslim invasion, and the Islamization of America is the top DOJ position. And POTUS nominates Barr?

I’m done with him. I’ll vote again for him. But holding my nose.

He’s done some great things but on the big things that are tearing down America one foundation block at a time, he’s frankly sucked. Big time.

I’m moving to the mountains, stocking up, and waiting for the conflagration or the rapture. I’m ready for either.

It does seem the Uniparty has permanent control of DoJ and the Don doesn’t mind.
    Sessions #2.
Giving up caring when Trump betrays us now. It’s looking all over. There will be no Wall
He wants plausible deniability for one term, perhaps.
Barr is Trump’s dhimmification to the Deep State.
How long before the Trump tweets dissing Barr start?……As if someone else appointed Barr.
