The People Who Walked In Darkness Have Seen A Great Light

nativityIS 9:1-6

The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
a light has shone.
You have brought them abundant joy
and great rejoicing,
as they rejoice before you as at the harvest,
as people make merry when dividing spoils.
For the yoke that burdened them,
the pole on their shoulder,
and the rod of their taskmaster
you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
For every boot that tramped in battle,
every cloak rolled in blood,
will be burned as fuel for flames.
For a child is born to us, a son is given us;
upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
His dominion is vast
and forever peaceful,
from David’s throne, and over his kingdom,
which he confirms and sustains
by judgment and justice,
both now and forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this!

GospelLK 2:1-14

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus
that the whole world should be enrolled.
This was the first enrollment,
when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth
to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem,
because he was of the house and family of David,
to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
While they were there,
the time came for her to have her child,
and she gave birth to her firstborn son.
She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger,
because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields
and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them
and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were struck with great fear.
The angel said to them,
“Do not be afraid;
for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David
a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you:
you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes
and lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel,
praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

  1. A very Merry Christmas to all. While seeming only virtual, we gather here in different moments in spirit to observe the birth of our savior, let us all remember the words of Matthew 18:19-20

“In truth I tell you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.”

May the 2018 year of our Lord bring you all joy and prosperity.

A very Merry Christmas to our Treeper Family!

May God Bless you and keep you in the exciting year of blessing our familes and our Nations to come.

May the Peace of Heaven be found in our hearts and our homes, and may we take advantage of the Atonement that we may be healed and restored, set upon the path of Goodness.

May those who regard Righteousness as foolish and spurn it as a quaint inconsequential notion soon recognize the power and majesty of the principles given us from upon High. May doing Right be elevated above merely doing well; Giving above getting; Gratitude above envy; Serving above dependency; Sacrifice above selfishness.

I am so grateful for the Treehouse, for Sundance’s gift to us of Wisdom and Hope, Encouragement and Fellowship. For this Community of good and decent, clever and wise, funny yet gracious lovers of Liberty that span and encircle this wildly gyrating orb we call Home.

The birth of Jesus is beyond amazing. In the Old Testament when God appeared it was a terrifying experience. To Job, He come as whirlwind, a tornado, to the children of Israel, He came as a pillar of fire, to Abraham, as a smoking furnace. When Moses asked to see God’s face, He was told “no”, it would kill you. But to us God comes into the world as a baby, a sweet, vulnerable, cuddly baby. Jesus came to draw us toward Him, and to live the righteous life that we should be living (to please God) and to die on a cross to pay the penalty that our sins deserve. Praise God for the Good News, The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  12. Hi Sundance, just wanted to comment that in my life there have been two threads: spirituality and politics. I think we have that in common. Nice to meet you.

Also, in my lifetime, the one person (human not God) who to me is the epitome of the highest level of the spiritual/political in human form is Martin Luther King Jr. He went to the mountain top and brought down what he saw to the human level of existence.
Best blessings to you and your family…!!
