(Via Daily Mail) An astonishing confrontation between the attorney-general and the FBI director over Hillary Clinton’s emails was revealed Monday.

Sources told Reuters how James Comey, the FBI boss, challenged Loretta Lynch, the nation’s most senior prosecutor, over whether she was directing him to keep the bombshell discovery of new, ‘relevant’ emails secret from Congress.

The development was revealed by the news agency hours after the White House went out of its way to back Comey as a man of ‘integrity’ and rubbish Hillary Clinton’s attack on him.

It also slapped down claims by Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate leader, that Comey may have been breaking the Hatch act and influencing the election, saying the President did not believe he was doing such a thing.

The Comey-Lynch confrontation unfolded on Thursday, some time after Comey was fully briefed on the existence of the trove of emails uncovered by agents investigating Anthony Weiner’s sexting of a 15-year-old girl.

Lynch made it known that she thought his decision violated department policy, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.

As Comey and Lynch aides debated last Thursday whether alerting Congress about the emails would comply with longstanding Justice Department policy against announcing overt investigative steps that would influence an upcoming election, Comey asked whether he was being explicitly directed not to do so.

Lynch never gave Comey the order not to send the emails, a senior government official said.

[…] Lynch’s office informed the FBI on Thursday that sending the letter conflicted with a memo containing official guidance that is sent to all Justice Department employees during presidential election years, according to the official.

The memo instructs employees to ‘never select the timing of investigative steps… for the purpose of affecting any election.’

But the Justice Department made no effort to block the FBI from obtaining a search warrant to review the emails, which the agency received on Sunday. The department is working closely with the FBI on the case.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik told several members of Congress in letters on Monday that the Justice Department was dedicating ‘all necessary resources’ to work with the FBI on its examination of the newly discovered emails ‘as expeditiously as possible.’

However, an official familiar with the FBI review said investigators could not predict how long the examination would take. (read more)

My thinking would be the “Clinton email team” and the “FBI agents investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server” knew about the Huma/AW laptop early in October. Director Comey was not “fully briefed” (from the Daily Mail) link until last Thursday . On Sunday the Washington Post (link below) reported “FBI agents investigating Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state knew early this month that messages recovered in a separate probe might be germane to their case, but they waited weeks before briefing the FBI director, according to people familiar with the case.”

I’m guessing “people familiar with the case” = “Clinton email team”

And in today’s Daily Mail link…

“Lynch’s office informed the FBI on Thursday that sending the letter conflicted with a memo containing official guidance that is sent to all Justice Department employees during presidential election years, according to the official.

The memo instructs employees to ‘never select the timing of investigative steps… for the purpose of affecting any election.'”

    …..

Which brings me to my current opinion of the “Clinton email team” and “Lynch” working together and Comey finally seeing the handwriting on the wall that he and his department may be set up as the fall guy at this point due to the “affecting any election” line.

Your quotation from the DoJ policy memo, “…never select the timing of investigative steps…for the purpose of affecting any election…” seems to exonerate Comey for advising the Judiciary Committee that the case was being reopened due to new evidence. His letter was not an “investigative step”, revealed no information about investigative steps, and the letter’s timing was based on when he himself became aware of the new evidence.

On the other hand, the head of the DoJ side of the investigation appears to be in complete violation of the DoJ policy. Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik, a political appointee and friend of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta, has ordered an expedited review of the massive Weiner-Abedin laptop email trove. He is patently selecting the timing of investigative steps to affect an election. Will Lynch fire him for this gross violation?

That is a very good point. That completes the story for me. Technically Comey is right…and that will protect him and his department. I think Comey did politicize and diminsh the FBI and it’s investigative agents overall. No matter how that happens, that is a loss for the institution and the citizens that rely on “liberty and justice” for all. It will continue to be a long journey back to “E Pluribus Unum”…but freedom is worth it.

The sad part is that we have to read newspapers in the UK for this kind of stuff.

The Corporate Media in the US is so corrupt.

  3. Here is syxhex’ opinion of the white hat of James Comey. He doesn’t use the term “white hat,” but basically thinks Comey came out to reopen as a sign he still has a shred of patriotism left after his initial decision not to indict Hillary Clinton.
