According to information from the office of Senator Ron Johnson (Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs) terrorist Omar Mateen was posting messages to social media in the time between the initial attack and the time SWAT teams rushed the Pulse nightclub:
“I pledge my alliance to (ISIS leader) abu bakr al Baghdadi … may Allah accept me”.
“The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west” …“You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes … now taste the Islamic state vengeance.”
“America and Russia stop bombing the Islamic state.”
“In the next few days you will see attacks from the Islamic state in the usa.”
An FBI source told FoxNews.com Mateen also made 16 phone calls from inside the club after the bloody spree began. Investigators are tracking down each of the recipients of those calls.
This is a rather unusual way for information to reach the public. However, as a researcher who follows the nuance of media and politics, the structure of this information -via a request from Senator Ron Johnson’s office- seems intentionally directed to push information into the media stream.
This is only an educated hunch, but it appears Wisconsin Senator Johnson is trying to work around an anticipated blockage from executive office instructions and the political ideologues (DOJ, Loretta Lynch – and DHS, Jeh Johnson – and Intel, James Clapper). The three aforementioned political appointees are intensely controlled by the White House.
This publicity of this information makes it harder for Obama’s more favorable “non jihad motive” to retain credibility. Democrats are intent on saying this has nothing to do with ISIS, because if it’s related to ISIS it proves Obama’s failure.
President Obama wants to remove the motive of radical Islamic terrorism from the psyche of the electorate and convince everyone this was an ordinary gun nut unrelated to Islam. This public release makes that effort more difficult.
So Johnson wanted to get information into the public that would have been hidden. But he has to be careful because he can be accused by FBI (Lynch), DHS (Johnson) or Intelligence (Clapper) of compromising their “investigation”.
Senator Johnson skirts their admonitions by revealing snippets of the information under the auspices of a letter directed to Facebook (Zuckerberg) seeking help to get information. Of course James Clapper already has full access to this information, so the request to Facebook is irrelevant from an actual investigative inquiry.
Politically, Senator Johnson sees a benefit because, well, frankly he sucks, and he’s probably not going to win his reelection bid. Johnson evolved into a backstabbing lapdog for McConnell’s GOPe machine and has put himself in that weird Rubio-esque space the base constituency is ambivalent about his defeat.
