BREAKING: Suspicions Confirmed – White House Computer / Data Network WAS Hacked…

We first discussed this over the weekend when several unusual “adjustments” all aligned with a computer compromise.   The White House network was indeed compromised.

Light BulbWASHINGTON (Reuters) – Suspicious cyber activity has been detected on the computer network used by the White House and measures have been taken to address it, a White House official disclosed on Tuesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, would not say who might have been responsible for the activity on what was described as an unclassified computer network used by employees of the Executive Office of the President.

“In the course of assessing recent threats we identified activity of concern on the unclassified EOP network. Any such activity is something that we take very seriously. In this case we took immediate measures to evaluate and mitigate the activity,” the official said.

It was unclear when the activity took place. The official said the technical measures to address the activity had led to limited access to some EOP network services. Some of the issues have been resolved, but the work continues.

“Our actions are ongoing and some of our actions have resulted in temporary outages and loss of connectivity for some EOP users,” the official said.

A second administration official said there were no indications at this time that classified networks had been affected.  (link)

OR, as we pondered, is this an assertion to provide cover for a story (yet to come) about how hard drives etc needed a Lois Lerner refresh.

or perhaps cover of a large hack which included the Communications system. (Why did the WH emergency broadcast system get activated this week and scroll erroneous emergency broadcast in Austin, Atlanta & Michigan?)

Perhaps this was done to establish credibility for whatever excuse they are about to offer.

Say goodbye to any hopes of learning how the IRS scandal and “Fast and Furious” leads back to the White House. They are in full electronic “CYA” mode now. How long will it be before actual people start to “shuffle off this mortal coil” with a little help from ZERO’s operatives?

Wouldn’t it be great if whoever hacked the WH found evidence/smoking gun of things suspected of O? Ties to radical Islam, not a natural-born citizen, Manchurian Candidate. That would be fun!

I think it’s MUCH more likely they let a foreign agent (Clinton, for example) bring in something that opened the network to a penetration. They don’t take security seriously — and the same attitude that drives them to keep letting in people exposed to Ebola would make them careless enough to let the Chinese, Russians, or Iranians penetrate the White House.

ATT UVerse is the emergency alert carrier. The so called “fake” alert, could only have been activated by the White House. The alert specifically stated that the President would be making a statement and that the channels would be directed when the speech began.
ATT has stated that they have no idea how this happened. They are investigating.
The Russian’s have hacked our retail, they have hacked Germany’s political structure, they are in the news. IMO the White House system was hacked. The Communications Safety system is part of the White House electronic IT structure. We’re finally starting to see little bits and pieces of the news about the “local” White House computer problems.
Why would the President, leave the Situation Room and drive to the State Dept? Is it because the communications system was down & was unusable? Or could it be that the White House computer system has been hacked & compromised and that the so called fake alert, was not fake and who ever compromised the system was giving Americans fair warning?
But it’s just me….the White House has been too glib about their security. The Secret Service fail to responsibly protect the Office of the President, and the IT Division is failing in its responsibility as well. I look to the unsecure Obamacare Website and know that our information can be hacked in less than one minute, and I wonder….and come to the conclusion that, Houston, we may have a problem.

Russians have technology than can infect a thumb drive. Nasty little computer geniuses are the Russians. The fear factor ratchets up when the government says it is specifically only the “local” system. This means that Bambi I & Bambi II work on the “local” system.
All other files are on Government system. That means all other Bambies, Bunnies & Obama staff, have access. People get very sloppy. “Opening” the piggy bank would not be a difficult process for the Administration to do as well. Nasty little liberal geniuses in the White House. Either way, IMO we’ve been hacked.

Earlier this year, investigators for Silicon Valley security company FireEye Inc. visited a U.S. firm to determine who, and what, sneaked into the firm’s network harboring military secrets.

Security experts report Russian government is sponsoring sophisticated computer hacking.

If they work like the ones we had the unclassified ones are basically ones like you have at home or work – supposedly for ‘official use only’ but still capable of accessing the internet at large. They’d have a portal they passed through that – supposedly unless they hired a disadvantaged contractor’ to maintain it – would serves as a secure firewall, preventing unauthorized access of some sites by the user and monitoring all incoming data for malware. We had ours in a separate room from the classified servers, they allowed us to access civilian email and do open-source data mining BUT the line passed through a Navy site that monitored our use to make sure we weren’t accessing porno or downloading illegal music. I would presume that the WH would have a firewall and malware detection system of the first water, all considered, but with this Administration you can’t be sure.
A thought came to mind. The ‘whitehouse.gov’ site has been accused by a number of reputable sources of infecting the computers of those who visit. The tracking software’s not a regular worm or virus but quire different and hard to detect or remove. It allows someone in the Federal system (???) to track the owners computer as it surfs the web. Now the WH site’s been attacked a number of times but what if some really good hacker who was PO’d at the WH’s infecting visitors’ computers decided to play turnaround? Just a thought – I’m still leaning towards a professional attack by overseas hackers looking for the data on the staff’s personal devices. Interesting that the WH hasn’t said anything substantive – part of it’s OPSEC but I’d still like to know if part of it’s the realization that the infection was there some time before it was caught.

In the case of Target, the crime was reminiscent of the movie Office Space.

Basically, someone installed rogue software onto Target’s network and it started capturing credit card info.

However, unlike Office Space, where nobody was protecting the network, Target did have several types of safeguards in place. Not as much as they needed, but at least enough that they should have taken corrective action long before they did.

All large corporations have sophisticated network operations centers, with people whose only job all day every day is to sit around monitoring network activity literally 24/7/365 looking for signs of unusual activity. Target had some red flags which triggered and got reported, but mysteriously got ignored. Sound suspicious? 🙂

Also, Target claimed that they had granted access to one of their vendors which, completely unbeknownst to them, was a crime front. Their explanation sounded very fishy to me.

Anyway, my point in all that is that, is that I believe that there had to be somebody at Target(or several somebodies) helping the criminals. Most likely it was either current or ex employees, because those people often know where to find the biggest cracks in the system.

The same will likely hold true for this recent breach with the feds.
