Thuggin’ It – New Orleans Former Mayor Ray Nagin Indicted On 21 Corruption Charges, Bribery, Fraud…..

This was brutally obvious years ago, but finally the Chickens are Coming Home To Roost….  Typical Dem.   Don’t look for the media to be too forthcoming with this story.

NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was indicted Friday on charges that he used his office for personal gain, accepting payoffs, free trips and gratuities from contractors while the city was struggling to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The charges against Nagin are the outgrowth of a City Hall corruption investigation that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former city officials and two businessmen and a prison sentence for a former city vendor.

The federal indictment accuses Nagin of accepting more than $160,000 in bribes and truckloads of free granite for his family business in exchange for promoting the interests of a local businessman who secured millions of dollars in city contract work after the 2005 hurricane. The businessman, Frank Fradella, pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to commit bribery and has been cooperating with federal authorities.

Nagin, 56, also is charged with accepting at least $60,000 in payoffs from another businessman, Rodney Williams, for his help in securing city contracts for architectural, engineering and management services work. Williams, who was president of Three Fold Consultants LLC, pleaded guilty Dec. 5 to a conspiracy charge.

The indictment also accuses Nagin – who now lives in Frisco, Texas – of getting free private jet and limousine services to New York from an unidentified businessman who owns a New Orleans movie theater. Nagin is accused of agreeing to waive tax penalties that the businessman owed to the city on a delinquent tax bill in 2006.

From several city contractors, Nagin is accused of accepting free travel and vacation expenses for trips to Hawaii, Chicago, Las Vegas and Jamaica while in office.

The alleged bribery plot isn’t limited to Nagin’s tenure as mayor. Prosecutors say Nagin, a Democrat, accepted monthly payoffs from Fradella totaling $112,250 after he left office.

In 2010, Greg Meffert, a former technology official and deputy mayor under Nagin, pleaded guilty to charges he took bribes and kickbacks in exchange for steering city contracts to businessman Mark St. Pierre. Anthony Jones, who served as the city’s chief technology officer in Nagin’s administration, also pleaded guilty to taking payoffs.

Meffert cooperated with the government in its case against St. Pierre, who was convicted in May 2011 of charges that include conspiracy, bribery and money laundering. The indictment says Nagin accepted bribes from St. Pierre, including free travel and lodging, cell phone service for relatives, and campaign funding.  (read more)

I wonder how many phone calls it took from D.C. to make sure this didn’t come down until after the election?

  2. lovemygirl says:

He and Mayor Barry are friends no doubt.

Did Nagin always talk like that or did he bloviate coz he was amongst “his people”? Well I guess he can relax now as he will be in another chocolate city real soon.

.This was just post-Katrina and he was bitching about how much of the white population came back but much of the black population, mainly for reasons related to their not following basic social tenants such as having home owners and flood insurance (many didn’t even have their homes they ‘owned’ registered in their names), could not come back. Many black residents lived in rentals that were flooded and destroyed and the projects, quite a few of which that were not already destroyed by the residents were also flooded and the Feds couldn’t get enough cash in fast enough to fix them all. The whites in town, for the first time in decades, were the majorityand the newspaper started the urban legend about whites taking political control again, that’s what Ray was talking about. The clip I can’t find is of him in November telling the assembled crowd that he didn’t want the city overrun by Mexicans

        • cajunkelly says:

No, he doesn’t always talk like that. Check any of the videos that pop up at the end of that one.
I see something I want explained. WTH is that arm band he’s wearing? I see what I think
is MP. Was this idiot passing himself off as military police?

          • czarowniczy says:

The ‘Chocolate City’ speech was given as part of the MLK Day ‘festivities’ and the armband is an MLK something-or-the-other band. Too long ago, I can’t remember if it were commemorative or just ID’d him as someone allowed access to the podium. Not MP, MLK. Interesting to note that more than a few of those NOLA politicians on stage with him preceded him in being indicted and jailed by the Feds in the following years.

I saw earlier news reports…that failed to say he’s a democrat…funny how that happens when they are brought up on charges.

  4. cajunkelly says:

Reportedly his wife and at least one child *could* be charged as well, but the consensus is that this will be held as a barter for him pleading guilty.

I’m not holding my breath on Mr, Chocolate City ever spending one day in jail. Crooks always manage to slide. I’d like to see him locked up and forgotten about.

    • czarowniczy says:

.21 seperate charges on the indictment and the Feds have been after him for a long time – it’s almost personal between the two of them. If he gets the Federal judge I hope he gets she’ll nail his ass to the jail floor. The Feds here have indicted and convicted a lot of crooked politicians over the last ten years, mostly Democrats, and including one sitting US Representative (‘Dollar’ Bill Jefferson). The Federal Attorney who’s done all of this, Jim Letten, was forced to resign after two of his staff made some boner gaffs but this Nagin thingie is the feather-in-the-cap of the office and they won’t let it slide. It will Jim’s last major victory, albeit post mortem, and will be a going-away present from the Staff to Jim

no surprises from the coward that hid from his responsibilities & the drowning people of NO in the penthouse suite of hotel during the early days during Katrina.

    • WeeWeed says:

AND sometimes from Dallas – he got HIS family outta there and to Dallas in plenty of time. Of course, they all knew it was coming for days – some more o’ that “fine for me but NOT for thee” that the dem filth is famous for. Wonder how ol’ William Jefferson, D-Louisiana is faring these days?….

      • czarowniczy says:

“Wonder how ol’ William Jefferson, D-Louisiana is faring these days?….”

As someone who lived in his district – I couldn’t give a sh*t, hope he’s got a lot of cigarettes stashed in his prison freezer…

  6. Two words… Chocolate Chooch. 👿

  7. brutalhonesty says:

why bother? we all know every black person convicted of corruption will be pardoned at the end of obamas term

  8. west1890 says:

N.J. Democrats vote to exclude non-union workers from Sandy Repair

Surprised? I’m not. Life in corrupt Obama world.

  9. akathesob says:

LOL! Some things will just never change. At least we know how that chocolate city thing worked out.

  10. czarowniczy says:

I mentioned this in a reply to a post earlier today – it’s all that’s on the news here. Feds have indicted just about the whole family though that may just be a move to put the squeeze on Ray to make a deal. The Feds waited until the last day before the statute of limitations on some of the charges would have run out to drop the bomb. This has been a news item for months, the Feds let leak they were working on indicting a ‘mystery politician’ in the case and as the case only had one politician and all of the other defendants were charged with bribing him, we were all just waiting for the last veil to drop. They let him roast over a slow fire for months – I can’t help wondering if his Katrina ‘garb all the guns’ order took a gun from a member of some Federal attorney’s family. His predecessor, Marc Morial, was widely rumored to be looking at a Federal grand jury seating after a few members of his administration, including family, were indicted on Federal hands-in-the-cookie-jar charges. That never happened though as he was swept into the presidency of the National Urban League and then into Obama’s circle – no Federal grand jury subpoena ever materialized.
If Ray gets concvicted on the Federal charges he’ll have a felony on his record and won’t be able to own a firarm so if he comes back to live in NOLA after his sentence is over he won’t have to worry about the Guard or police coming to his house to confiscate his weapon in the event of another Katrina-like event. Hope the looters have his address on file…

  11. bob e says:

how many black politicians we got ???

  12. elvischupacabra says:

Nawlins…. It’s corrupt, hot, muggy, kind of dirty, full of strange people, but on its very worst day is head and shoulders above Dee-troit, Sh!tcago, Effin’ Philly, N’urk, Nanny Town (NYC), Baltimore, Cleveland or Boston. Nawlins has character. Plus, the good guys can pack heat, legally. 😆

  13. Ron Callaway says:

If you wanna see a black man go crooked put him in office. crookeder

  14. C’mon folks, Nagin is just taking what is rightfully his. He just snatched it before it was handed to him. Sheesh
