Bye Bye Donut Shop !!

What was once considered an outlier event, refusing service to a police officer, is now becoming common place amid the national franchise chain of Dunkin Donuts restaurants.
Adding to the frequency, two more separate events in this weekend; one in Rhode Island and another in Connecticut.

In one event an employee refused to serve a police officer and the owner overhead the denial:

[…] According to the police report, the employee noticed the officer at the back of the line and she loudly said, “he didn’t get the message, we don’t serve cops here,” according to police.
The officer left the busy store without any further interaction with employees, and as he returned to his car, the store’s manager and the employee approached him, offering apologies for the comment, police said. The employee said she was joking.

The employee offered the officer a free cup of coffee, but the officer declined and said he would go to a different store, instead, police said. (link)

Dunkin Donuts responded to public outcry with the following statement:

“We are aware, Dunkin’ Donuts & our franchisees share a commitment to the well-being & fair treatment of all of guests. The crew member exhibited poor judgement & the franchisee has apologized to the police officer on behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts.” (link)

Poor judgement“?  Think about that.  So it was ok for the “crew member” to carry such a belief in his/her employment outlook toward serving the customer base; it’s just “poor judgement” that he/she chose to exhibit it.   You know, because spitting in the coffee is far less, well, visible n’ safer ‘n stuff….. better judgement with that approach…. on the down-low dontchaknow.
Shortly thereafter another example of similar behavior by yet another Dunkin Donuts employee; this time in a totally different location – Rhode Island:

[…] The incident happened Friday afternoon at a Providence, Rhode Island location. According to a Providence police union, the officer was buying a coffee and the employee serving him seemed “somewhat rude and appeared as though they did not want to serve the officer.”
The cop later discovered that the employee wrote “#blacklivesmatter” on the cup. (link)

Again, as with the first example, Dunkin Donuts tries to save face:

“Dunkin’ Donuts and our franchisees share a commitment to the well-being and fair treatment of all our guests,” the statement read. “The franchise owner has apologized to the police officer on behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts, and he has counseled the employee about her behavior.” (link)

Blah, Blah, Blah…. could they type up a more disingenuous statement ?!!
The owner “counseled” the employee about her behavior.  Oh well, that makes it all better now, move along, move along…. we be counseling.  Get enough of those “counselings” and you might just get a written “reprimand”, or something.
Here’s a tip:  Try “You’re Fired“!!  Nice and simple like.  Done !
You won’t catch me walking into any Dunkin Donuts until they get this anti-cop outlook under control.  Yes, I know they are franchises – so when they revoke a franchisee license, that’s when I’ll know they are serious about these “apologies”.  Until then, nope.
No, not a boycott, just common sense. Why would anyone want to visit any organization fraught with such a lack of discipline, and simultaneously showcasing abhorrent corporate culture?
Plenty of other Donut/Coffee shops available.
