[Update 5:30am] Largest wave approximately 5 feet.  Most appears to be clear – Tsunami warning still in effect for several hours but appears less than expected.   Final decisions to be reached in next 2 hours – Offical “this is not an exact science“…  Public safety first.  Stay clear of coastal areas next few hours.

[Update 5:25 a.m.]Most places in Hawaii are on the fourth tsunami wave, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center’s Gerard Fryer told reporters, noting that the data now shows the evacuation may not have been necessary – but was still a good precaution. (more…)

Obama’s Massive Shrinkage – DNC Moved Obama Speech Because They Couldn’t Fill Bank of America Stadium, Campaign Worried About “Large Number Of Empty Seats”…

The Obama Campaign is saying they are moving the speech due to weather.  However, there is NO risk of bad weather.   They are moving it because they can’t fill the seats.  Period.  And they do not want to be embarassed with thousands of empty seats.

(Via Daily Mail) Democrats have announced that President Barack Obama’s big speech on Thursday night will move from the vast Bank of America stadium to the much-smaller Time Warner indoor arena.

The Bank of America stadium site - which seats 74,000 - where U.S. President Barack Obama WAS set to give his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte

While organisers blamed weather forecasts of lightning, the switch means that Obama has avoided the possibility of having to accept his party’s nomination before a partially-empty stadium. Just hours earlier, officials had been insisting the speech would go ahead in the stadium ‘rain or shine’. (more…)

LAKELAND, Fla. — In a last-minute change of plans, Mitt Romney will head to visit storm-affected areas in New Orleans today, skipping a previously scheduled joint rally with running mate Paul Ryan in the battleground state of Virginia this afternoon.

A Romney aide told ABC News that Romney will “join Gov. Jindal and will meet with first responders, thank them for their work and see areas impacted by the storm in LaFitte, La.”

AT 1000 AM CDT...1500 UTC…THE CENTER OF HURRICANE ISAAC WAS  LOCATED BY NOAA DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR NEAR LATITUDE 29.6 NORTH…  LONGITUDE 90.7 WEST…OR VERY NEAR HOUMA LOUISIANA. ISAAC IS MOVING  TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 6 MPH…9 KM/H.

THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT… FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHWEST BY THURSDAY NIGHT OR EARLY FRIDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK… THE CENTER OF ISAAC WILL MOVE FARTHER INLAND OVER LOUISIANA TODAY AND TOMORROW…AND OVER SOUTHERN ARKANSAS BY EARLY FRIDAY. (more…)

WEST. ISAAC IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH…13 KM/H. A
NORTHWESTWARD MOTION AT A SLIGHTLY SLOWER SPEED IS EXPECTED OVER
THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.

THE NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH…19 KM/H…AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY WITH A GRADUAL DECREASE IN FORWARD

Spooky Deja-vu – Katrina August 27th 2005 and Isaac August 27th 2012

The latest forecast map issued by the National Hurricane Center shows Tropical Storm Isaac heading toward New Orleans. The storm still is expected to make landfall as a Category 2 hurricane, according to a forecast map provided by Weather Underground. The hurricane center notes that computer models are not consistent after 24 hours, and everyone inside warning areas should be mindful of the potential for a direct impact.

Isaac: Good News – Bad News…. Florida Less Likely – New Orleans More Likely

UPDATED Aug. 26, 4:50 p.m.: Gov. Bobby Jindal declares a state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana, while New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu declares a state of emergency in New Orleans in advance of Isaac. Orleans, Plaquemines, Jefferson and St. Charles parishes all have declared a state of emergency.

Seven years later, those caught in the destructive path of Hurricane Katrina are being urged once again to prepare for the worst, as the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac grows by the minute.

As the large and strengthening system crossed waters with temperatures of more than 80 degrees Sunday, forecasts called for the storm to make landfall along the Gulf coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday as a powerful Category 2 storm. (more…)
