-We are more than 1/2 way (2.5) to $4 trillion in deficit reduction [400 billion/yr].  The question is how to cut more.    [Republicans want to kill essential services, Democrats want to protect them]….  We won’t grow the middle class by shifting more cuts, “we cannot cut our way to prosperity”…..   I say more “investment”.

-Medicare payments should be made only for essential services to the elderly.   Doctors should not be allowed to order any test they want…. they should only order the tests that “I” approve.   That’ll help.

-Why should deficit controls impact Social Security?   We just need to raise more taxes, close loopholes, insure millionaires cannot avoid payment, stop companies from moving overseas and reform the tax code. (more…)

Much has been made about the death of a 15-year-old honor student, Hadiya Pendleton.

She died after being shot in a park near the Chicago home of President Barack Obama on Jan. 29, just days after she performed during his inauguration festivities in Washington. Her death was among dozens of homicides in Chicago last month, but her background and ties to Obama thrust her death into the national headlines and helped put Chicago at the center of a national debate over gun control.  (story)

Last month 23-year old twin sisters and two other unrelated women were found shot to death in an apartment complex in Tulsa Oklahoma. Rebeika Powell (left) and Kayetie Melchor were among four women found dead inside an Oklahoma apartment on Jan. 7, 2013 after an apparent daylight shooting in a crime-scarred south Tulsa neighborhood. The 23-year-old twins were discovered along with the bodies of 33-year-old Misty Nunley and 55-year-old Julie Jackson.

(Hot Air)  What to do if the nation fails to fall in line behind new gun grabbing legislation and doesn’t want to put limits on ammo capacity? How about if they rebel against the idea of taxing the heck out of ammo? What if it just seems like there simply isn’t a majority on board with new gun control legislation? Well, if you follow the Obamacare model, you could always consider making extra insurance on weapons technology mandatory.

If you can’t force people to do what you want, force them to buy insurance: That seems to be the strategy of the liberal left in the Obama era. PITTSBURGH PA – Tim Benz, co-host of the Morning Show on alternative rock radio station 105.9 The X, left the air Friday after arguing with listeners about his support of stricter gun laws.

“There was a flare-up about gun control on the show, which included a good deal of flashback against the station,” Benz said. “I wasn’t able to walk away from the fight … (so) I decided to step away from the Morning Show.”

The argument stemmed from a Pittsburgh gun shop’s recent giveaway of hundreds of rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines and an AR-15 military-style rifle on its Facebook page. (more…)

DETROIT – Two teenagers were shot when they tried to rob men working on a public lighting pole on Detroit’s west side Thursday night, according to Detroit police.

The men, both 59, were in an alley between Cloverlawn and Northlawn, north of Schoolcraft, about 9 p.m. when the teens, who are 16-and 17-year-old brothers, pulled out a weapon and said they were robbing the men.

One of the men, who has a license to carry a concealed pistol, shot both teens, police said. (more…)
