HOLLYWOOD – Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” a film about a fake movie, has earned a very real prize: best picture at the Academy Awards.

From the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Jack Nicholson to help present the final prize.  “There are eight great films that have every right, as much a right to be up here as we do,” Affleck said of the other best-picture nominees.

In share-the-wealth mode, Oscar voters spread Sunday’s honors among a range of films, with “Argo” winning three trophies but “Life of Pi” leading with four. (more…)

Nanny Bloomberg unleashes his ban on large sodas on March 12 — and there are some nasty surprises lurking for hardworking families.

Say goodbye to that 2-liter bottle of Coke with your pizza delivery, pitchers of soft drinks at your kid’s birthday party and some bottle-service mixers at your favorite nightclub.

They’d violate Mayor Bloomberg’s new rules, which prohibit eateries from serving or selling sugary drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces.

Bloomberg’s soda smackdown follows his attacks on salt, sugar, trans fat, smoking and even baby formula.

The city Health Department last week began sending brochures to businesses that would be affected by the latest ban, including restaurants, bars and any “food service” establishment subject to letter grades.

And merchants were shocked to see the broad sweep of the new rules.

“It’s not fair. If you’re gonna tell me what to do, it’s no good,” said Steve DiMaggio of Caruso’s in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. “It’s gonna cost a lot more.” (more…)

Financial Times – Abercrombie & Fitch said it would close 40 to 50 stores in the US this year as the youth fashion retailer’s shares tumbled following weak sales in the crucial Christmas quarter.

“The earnings report was just one big giant pool of negativity,” said Brian Sozzi, chief equities analyst at NBG Productions. “Sales did not meet expectations, particularly in its international segment, and the company offered cautious comments on its first-quarter outlook. This is just something the market did not want to hear.”  (link)

Last year we wrote several articles about Darden Restuarants owners of Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse.  Specifically, how their progressive ideology disconnects them from business sense.   At the time we spotlighted a few specific examples from their ideological organization, and flawed business model.  We penned:

Longer security lines at airports. Slower extreme weather forecasts.” Slower extreme weather forecasts? “Greater risk of wildfires.” A greater risk of wildfires because the federal government is only spending $15 billion more than it spent last year? CALIFORNIA – The former mayor of Bell, California, was too stupid and uneducated to know his $100,000 salary for the part-time city job was illegal, his lawyer argued today.

Oscar Hernandez is illiterate, has no high school degree and didn’t even finish elementary school, defense attorney Stanley Friedmand told jurors.

Hernandez and five former members of the Bell City Council are on trial, accused of stealing $1.3million in exorbitant pay from the working-class city of 35,000.

All six elected officials drew salaries of up to $100,000 for serving on boards that seldom met and accomplished little. (more…)

(Via Newsmax)  Soledad O’Brien is ending her morning-show contract with CNN and is moving on to form her own documentary production company that will supply the network with programming on a nonexclusive basis.

O’Brien’s departure has been coming for some time. Even before president Jeff Zucker took over in January, he said he planned to cancel O’Brien’s program, “Starting Point.”

CNN hasn’t formally announced the details for a new morning show to replace O’Brien’s. (more…)

George Zimmerman is suffering through the painful consequences from a lack of integrity.  However, the ironic and painful fact is this: it wasn’t his lack of integrity that has created the situation he is now dealing with, it was Mark O’Mara’s.

We watched last year in April and May as the hurricane of activity created some really horrible decisions on the part of many people in the Trayvon Martin shooting.

From Ryan Julison intentionally misleading the media in describing the case as racially driven–to Benjamin Crump intentionally fabricating *media* evidence surrounding witness #8 “DeeDee.”  But the integrity issues were not just on the opposition side.

Indeed the same unscrupulous behaviors were also in the camp of those defending George Zimmerman.   We tried to warn interested observers of the risk from Mark O’Mara falsifying information.   Unfortunately it fell on deaf ears.

Now those chickens are coming home to roost.

If you have read those two prior posts, now 8 months old….. In hindsight the consequences are painfully obvious….  Unfortunately, it might be too late to do anything about it.   But let’s break it down from the aspect of who knows what took place. (more…)
