Must be over 30 years ago, now. Michael Martin Murphey’s tour bus was passing through southern AZ, and made an unscheduled stop in Sonoita, AZ. I had, by chance, on a local country music station, heard that he and the band wanted to thank their fans with a free concert at the rodeo grounds.
There were a few hundred people, mostly with families, mostly cowboys, sittin’ on the grass listening for about 2 hours. We had taken our toddler granddaughter with us – had a ball!

The United States, together with its European partners, is developing a new plan to end the war in Ukraine. The initiative includes large-scale reconstruction of the state, security guarantees, energy agreements with Russia, and a possible cessation of hostilities along the current front line.
This was reported by The Washington Post, which revealed the details of the negotiations between representatives of the United States, Ukraine, and European countries.
According to the publication, Washington seeks to offer a comprehensive agreement that will take into account the post-war economic and security interests of the parties and create conditions for the cessation of hostilities.
The initiative was discussed during a six-hour meeting in Florida. Representatives of Ukraine, the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany took part in the negotiations. The American side was represented by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
Four main points of the peace plan
1. Large-scale reconstruction of Ukraine
The first direction involves the creation of an international mechanism for financing the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
The World Bank and the investment company BlackRock may join the development of the financial model.
The funds are planned to be used to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure, support the families of the dead and wounded servicemen, and restore the Ukrainian economy.
At the same time, international partners expect Kyiv to provide detailed calculations of the necessary financing and guarantees of transparent use of funds.
2. Security guarantees for Ukraine
The second point concerns international guarantees that should prevent a repeated Russian invasion.
According to The Washington Post, the United States and European states may undertake obligations regarding a military response in the event of new Russian aggression.
The American official compared the proposed mechanism to NATO’s fifth article, which provides for the principle of collective defense.
However, the specific format of such guarantees, the procedure for their implementation, and the legal mechanisms are not yet disclosed.
3. Energy agreement between Ukraine, Russia and Europe
The third direction involves the possible resumption of economic cooperation in the energy sector.
Among the proposals is the use of a pipeline to supply Russian oil and gas to European countries with the distribution of profits between Ukraine and Russia.
Supporters of this idea believe that it could reduce the cost of energy for Europe.
The future agreement may also determine the conditions and terms of the gradual lifting of economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
At the same time, these proposals remain the subject of discussion and are not agreed solutions.
4. Territorial issue and ceasefire
The most difficult point in the negotiations remains the issue of occupied Ukrainian territories.
According to the publication, one of the possible scenarios involves the cessation of hostilities along the actual contact line.
In this case, Russia would retain de facto control over the territories it occupies at the time of the ceasefire, in particular part of Donbas.
At the same time, the cessation of hostilities along the current front line would not in itself mean the legal recognition of the occupied territories as Russian.
An additional problem remains the constant change in the line of combat contact, which makes it difficult to determine the possible limits of the ceasefire.
The US demands an end to strikes on Russian refineries
A separate subject of dispute between Washington and Kyiv has been Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.
According to The Washington Post, the Donald Trump administration insists on a mutual cessation of strikes on oil refineries.
American representatives have repeatedly approached the Ukrainian side with a corresponding proposal. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the publication, refused to agree to the proposed conditions.
After that, new disagreements arose between Kyiv and Washington. According to the publication’s source, Trump even threatened to terminate intelligence support for Ukraine.
The American side links the need for energy agreements, in particular, with the rise in diesel prices.
At the same time, Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries are increasing economic pressure on Moscow, which, according to some European diplomats, strengthens Kyiv’s negotiating position.
Are the parties ready for a compromise
Despite disagreements over energy agreements, the European partners, according to The Washington Post, are ready to continue diplomatic consultations.
It is expected that further negotiations will concern both security guarantees for Ukraine and the economic conditions of a potential settlement.
Currently, none of the four points is presented as a finally agreed peace agreement. The proposed mechanisms remain at the discussion stage, and their implementation will depend on the positions of Ukraine, Russia, the United States and European states.

Wait a minute! Aren’t “precepts” the opposite of “liberty” (Psalm 119:45)? Doesn’t freedom mean doing whatever you please, whenever you please, regardless of rules and restrictions? Not really.
Imagine you run into a stranger who hands you a flute.You seem to like music, he says. Take this flute. Go ahead, and feel free to make music with it! Without instruction, you probably wouldn’t be able to do much with it. But if someone taught you the methods or “precepts” of how to play—where to put your fingers, how to blow into it, how to read music—you would then have the chance to exercise the “freedom” of a musician, especially if you put in the time to practice. You would willingly restrict your freedom to do whatever you want with the flute so that you could learn to play it skillfully.
When St. Paul says, “For freedom Christ set us free,” he is talking about that kind of freedom: the freedom to do something beautiful, the liberty to do what pleases the Lord (Galatians 5:1). God didn’t make us free so that we could ignore his commands; he knows they are what guide us to reach our full potential. They are what set us on the path of excellence.
Excellence at what? Love of God and love of our neighbors.
Jesus delivers us from sin so that we can “walk at liberty” and become like him (Psalm 119:45). We are free to look out for someone else’s needs before our own. We are free to sacrifice on someone else’s behalf. The more this happens, the more like Jesus we become. It will look different for each one of us. A contemplative monk grows in loving in a different way than a young father does. A corporate executive conforms herself to Christ differently than someone living in a nursing home. But for each of us, true freedom comes as we receive the grace to live up to our potential.
Remember, loving isn’t accomplished in a single moment or gesture. It happens over time and with practice, just as every rehearsal enables the flute player to play even more beautifully.

1 If God wounds, who can heal? The word of God warns all to flee from the wrath to come, to the hope set before us in Jesus Christ. #2|. The people have cause to rejoice or mourn, as their rulers are righteous or wicked. #3|. Divine wisdom best keeps us from ruinous lusts. #4|. The Lord Jesus is the King who will minister true judgment to the people. #5|. Flatterers put men off their guard, which betrays them into foolish conduct. #6|. Transgressions always end in vexations. Righteous men walk at liberty, and walk in safety. #7|. This verse is applicable to compassion for the distress of the poor, and the unfeeling disregard shown by the wicked. #8|. The scornful mock at things sacred and serious. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
