The events described in the FlyDubai terrorist incident are just astonishing in sequence that led to the safe recovery of a Boeing 737 as it descended at a rate of speed beyond test limits of the aircraft during an attempted terrorist incident.
The Co-Pilot of the aircraft flying from Dubai to Israel, stabbed the captain with a pocketknife and attempted to destroy the flight controls as the plane began a rapid descent. The captain somehow managed to activate the door locking mechanism unlocking the cabin door just before losing consciousness during the struggle.
A passenger then forcibly entered the cabin, pulled the terrorist away from the controls, pulling him back into the cabin where Israeli passengers took control of him. As the passenger began pulling back on the flight controls trying to stop the descent, two other pilots who were on board -one Russian and one Ukrainian- came forward and took over.
Together the plainclothes pilots were able to recover the aircraft from descent as the tail stabilizing mechanism of the airliner fell apart. The new pilots then executed an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia and all passengers were unharmed.
It really is an amazing story with so many individual events that came together to save the flight from sure disaster. Reading about the events leaves you speechless. These were exceptionally brave, skilled and lucky people all traveling together on just the right flight at just the right moment. The Daily Mail has more on the story HERE.

The AED Pad is likely being used as air tight wound/puncher patch given the stick on an AED pad is quite significant.
His eyes say everything about his state of shock, he is alert, cognizant and likely happy pain management has been administered along with knowledge that soon he will have trauma level care.

I read in an Israeli newspaper that the plumber who entered the cabin first, was not able to stand up let alone walk through the aisle due to the speed/plunge, but they hit some type of air pocket that allowed him to stand and move forward to the cabin.

Recently, for example, it was a Russian supply ship that sent up 22 tons of supplies to the ISS. For that, I am pleased. Please stop giving God the credit for what men can do. That plane was built exceptionally well. The decades of research to make the material a plane is made out of to stand up to the forces of nature, the margin of error built into it is a testament to the engineers, metallurgists, scientists who created that material as well as the businessmen who funded the research and made a practical plane out of it.
The men who fought the attacker off, who wanted to live and did everything in their power to stay alive by throttling their legitimate, terrible fear to THINK and ACT to save the plane and themselves, all achieved success. They were rational men of action taking out a death worshipping automaton, and acted to stop the plane’s descent. There is always an element of luck and that there was a medical person and pilots on board was great luck. But without the plane holding together and the men wiling to act rationally, carefully and immediately despite fear, the luck of those professions being on board would be of no use.
The horrific attacks by the death cultists of our time have left such a trail of blood that when these incidents now happen there is little doubt what is going on, so precious seconds are not lost. I salute the men who successfully saved that plane full of individuals who can now go about living their lives. What a wonderful success to witness.

One has to at least be curious about what it is about President Trump that allows him such great success against all odds, no? It can’t be because he is such a powerful man. It can’t be. I believe, again faith here, that it was prayers to God for decades and decades calling and pleading for a champion. I believe God responded to those prayers. This is my faith. The co-pilot who attacked the pilot was an Omani pilot who had 9 months experience. Israeli security has constantly advised not to allow Omani pilots to land in Israel. This flight was headed to Tel Aviv. There is a reason why the IRGC has NEVER attacked Oman, even though they’ve attacked most of the other Middle East countries. If you go on to Tousi TV, there are videos from the plane, etc.

From what I understand, the Abraham Accords, which the UAE is part of, and it states in the MoU / contract, that only pilots from the UAE or approved pilots can fly to Israel, and Oman is not one of them. It’s now being investigated.

What happened was a miraculous confluence of factors that all contributed, but perhaps none more so then a moment of quiet strength given that enabled the pilot to unlock the cabin door before losing consciousness.

One time I tried carrying an Empty plastic bottle so that I could get some water from the water fountain in the boarding area. TSA about lost their ever loving minds and I thought that they were going to do a body cavity search on me.
While this was going on I noticed a man with one of those small luggage bags with wheels and an extendable handle stroll by with a Metal Insulated bottle in the side pocket of the luggage.
After that I started carrying a metal insulated bottle with a lid that has a very strong ring on top, I then hook a large carabiner to the lid and sail through.
Look up “Monkey Fist”. I have made dozens of them with about a 1″ Steel Ball Bearing and a medium size carabiner that a man can comfortably fit his hand inside and hook a key ring to the carabiner so that it is nothing more than an innocent key ring.
Even with those two weapons TSA does not even blink an eye.
I never walk outside my home without some sort of defensive device on my person.
The whole story is a case of human goodness and fortitude overcoming human bad person(s), again.

It’s disputed, but officially the United 93 passengers never fully breached the cockpit. In any case the hijackers remained in control the plane until it crashed. That doesn’t take away from what the passengers accomplished: the hijackers chose to crash the plane prematurely because they were aware the passengers were about to overwhelm them.
Another difference here is that there were trained pilots on board who knew what corrective actions needed to be taken, and that they needed to be taken immediately. Even experienced air crews with long histories of working together have been unable to recover their aircraft in similar emergencies. What these off duty pilots pulled off is one of the greatest feats in aviation history.
If the hijackers had full control of the plane, the hole would be in the Capital building or the White House, or whatever their target was, not in the ground in fields in PA.
Not breaching the cockpit would have made no change. But I agree that it is not likely they succeeded in obtaining full control from the hijackers. Afterall, passengers want to land safely if possible
On the segments of the CRV recordings released to the public the hijacker pilots engage in two short discussions about whether they should continue flying to their target or crash the plane. The first time they agreed to continue, the second time they chose to put the plane down before the passengers could take control.
My interpretation of the audio is that the passengers were in control of the cabin of the plane, and were breaching the cockpit as the hijackers put the plane into its final dive. They took this action because they passengers had control of the cabin and were about to gain control of the cockpit. Thus neither the passengers or the remaining hijackers had total control of the plane at this point.
Whether or not the passengers fully breached the cockpit and initiated a final struggle, their resistance had already effectively done enough to prevent the plane from reaching its target. Either way it was a heroic effort that saved hundreds of others.
It appears that it broke the sound barrier at Mach 1 (.98M)! Boeing has made the best passenger jet ever built. This is Flight 93 with a happy ending.

The 737-MAX is an aluminum airplane. Some small pieces are carbon fiber, but the fuselage, wings, and tail are aluminum. The damage to the rudder seen on some of the photos above was probably the result of “flutter” where the aerodynamic forces operating on the rudder/vertical stabilizer [vertical tail] in the vertical descent exceeded the structural limits.

If that one post on X is correct, 640 Knots is more than 730mph… Very close to breaking the sound barrier in a commercial jet!!! At that speed they may have been experiencing buffetting with shockwaves hitting the fuselage and wings. It’s a miracle (plus some next level engineering) that the plane held together.
Given what I have seen of Boeing aircraft in the last few years (parts falling off, doors busting off, and such), I personally very seriously doubt that it was (plus some next level engineering).
I fully and firmly believe that it was a miracle by the grace of the Lord.

with the new enhanced MCAS system, apparently even beserkery in the flight deck does not impact how this semi fly by wire aircraft can take the bulk of the flight control operation and prevent a seriously hard corner/Delta event. Amazing technology, made possible not ironically by the two complete disasters that should have never happened.
there is going to be LOT of renewed confidence in this aircraft. Speaking from experience with avionics and flight control systems, I was very skeptical…but these are not legacy aircraft. They are built foundationally on a design that has achieved over the decades the best safety of flight statistics than any other commercial aircraft.

also noting: a very recent develop has the FAA introducing regulations and guidelines that allow new type certification to move forward from R&D, test phase to operational. This is very good news, but it has to be done right. China has a slight head start and that is a direct competitor in the global commercial aircraft market. This new plan, while still in pencil, not fully fleshed out, will allow Boeing and presumably Airbus to move forward and spend the kinds of billions of investment dollars for new types with less overhead and bureaucracy. This should help bring to market not just new aircraft but a long stream of innovation that cuts across many manufacturing industries. I look forward to reading more about the new rules and the new designs in the pipeline.

Once Boeing finally gets the 777X into production they will really take off. The demand is there for that size of aircraft but the problems they have ran into have steered airlines to the Airbus 350.
I am speaking globally on this. The US domestic market will still be dominated by the 737/320 aircraft.
yes, and when we talk about bread and butter, one cannot overlook the simplicity and low cost maintenance and high volume regional traffic served by types such as the A220 and E195. It’s those small hops of 100-160 pax capacity flights that move the majority of people globally.
when/if these new FAA rules are fleshed out, we should expect to see an entire new spectrum of new types, but my money is on what happens to types that would be certified as next generation aircraft that fits in these shorter hops where the bulk of air travel is served.
For the larger aircraft, yes important, but the costs are enormous by comparison, especially when realizing most of these are ETOPS requirement platforms. That alone raises the kinds of engineering and capability/design costs and likewise the comprehensive regulators that are now global. The smaller single isle platforms do not have those additional design and engineering and regulatory challenges. So I would expect to see most of the new rules impacting designs upgrades to make these smaller aircraft designs at the top of the priority at least from a investment perspective.

nothing: the entire industry seems involved in simplifying the manufacturing regime toward modularization. This will allow for much faster construction and build time. One of the most significant costs in build. It will also allow for a new way to modify existing fleets without the ordinary delays when trying to retrofit for future gear and use case. (as an AVI type, I especially would love to see a modular design innovation. It’s staggering the amount of time, cost, labor and intensive work to perform major alterations to existing aircraft. Imagine that you could tow and aircraft into the hangar on a scheduled C check and send it out with a new interior or extend it in a matter of weeks, versus months and years?..these are the sorts of things that the major manufactures are working to make possible. This will radically shape not just aircraft design and manufacturing methods, but it will certainly shape many other manufacturing methods. Modularization. Think autos, trains, ships, etc. Once you start down that path, it becomes much easier and less expensive to make major repairs and alterations, and still conform to type certifications. And then we have to talk about how AI will help move this along at a faster pace too. Right now, we still use legacy computerized systems to track and document how repairs are done. I’ve been doing some work for a private company in the niche STC/Experimental arena and we introduced a specialized AI ecosystem that makes nearly every single documentation, training, instructions, work cards, schematic prints and the review and quality process very fast and reliable. Not quite ready for prime time yet, but it’s going to be a real thing very soon, where specialized AI enabled laptops and other devices will be handheld and communicate precise build instructions, parts ordering and supply chain function, build methods and standards, airworthiness documentation and discrepancy/QA procedures. I work in an environment where robots are unlikely to have a serious impact on human labor, but we’ve identified were AI can and has made a big difference in efficiency toward quality escape free goals. This will have enormous changes to so many other industries. Our private investors asked us a simple question a few years ago, and while our response was not what they wanted to hear: “Many of the delays in delivery quality platforms can be understood based on the limits of how the industry does the work…paper…verbal…and lots and lots of eyeballs and decisions makers who are limited by the legacy tools that are common. Inside just this last year, the same private investors group, stood up a tiger team and a very large sum of money funding a completely new direction that runs in parallel to how we accomplish our STC work. And what we decided is that we needed to think much bigger and so that has spun off a different company entirely, with its own funding for research into how we can innovate using AI to guide our work, all of it. It’s exciting and it has also allowed me to work well outside the typical AVI level work that has been my career in these last two decades. Learning how AI can be used, the limitations and how to address them and what is required to maintain AI systems and also to protect IP and copyright and ITAR security (we do multi mission and dual purpose exports), is all being developed into series of goals. (sometimes being small has its rewards. We are not a major listed corporation AND our investors/owners are quite sophisticated and bold). I might hold off retirement for a few years yet. Would like to see this through at least the first major milestone: one Experimental aircraft that is retrofit using AI as the controlling agent to guide work, order parts, plan and process phase work, etc. That would be an achievement I would gladly work toward before I call it quits. But then again, I may decide to forgo all that glory and pass the baton as planned. Next year, was my year to start the rest of my life. Time has a way of making one consider other things are important than a pay check and the hectic pace of the kind of work I’ve been doing. Wears on you.

When I first saw the report that the aircraft lost 14,000 feet in 30 seconds, I said to myself, “Naaaah.” Then I saw the photo of the damage to the vertical stabilizer, and I said to myself, “Yeaaaaah, WOW. Holy rabbit scat!”
Losing that much altitude that fast is next to impossible without ending up in a smoking bloody hole in the ground. On top of the physical takedown of a man with a knife, the piloting feat of saving everybody is equally just astounding. Awesome in the literal sense.

If the cabin doesn’t gain access to the flight deck, they’re all dead now. Different outcome, if that bullet proof door didn’t open. Everything depended on that. Once the attack started, there were about one or two short seconds for Captain to escape long enough to get to this outcome.
The only way this outcome was possible was for the captain to unstrap from his seat, during the attack, open the door and place his body in the opening – preventing closure by his body. Go outside to safety – the door closes behind him.
I see no other way for that door to open, remain open, cabin occupants gain entrance and subdue the copilot.
