You have it backwards, likely because you hear the word “government” and immediately yell, “No more of that!”
In fact, by doing this President Trump is leading us in the direction you seek.
He has created a path that will lead to a reduction in government. Right now there are x number if government portals, all of which eat up money in building and maintenance. For example, every new technology — hardware, software– and all the changes in gov rules and regs — causes the portals to have to update user access.
Creating one portal — one entry to government information — reduces that money and manpower. So besides making it easier for people to get information, this actually reduces government effort.
Of course, none of the current portals are being eliminated right now. These changes will be gradual. For example, when a specific portal needs to be updated, the agency may decide the portal is a duplication and just rely on America.gov.
The point us, this is the beginning of reducing the effort needed by government agencies to make information available to we the people. And hopefully America.gov will be easy to use, unlike some of the existing portals. That’s a win-win.
Guyski in a comment below gave us a link to the Design Studio. They are reconfiguring the way we will be able to access government information. From their website, it looks like they will seriously upgrade the appearance and usability of the portal(s) we use.
This is possible because of the advancements in technology and SI.
The change today to implement America.gov is just the beginning.

If they want things to be more accessible they should get rid of their new, egregious and outrageous verification process one has to wade through to get access.

Amazing how whenever this Pres. announces some new policy that is planned to help the American people there are so many unhappy dissenters on this site who say the new policy basically stinks and will fail. Every single time. Maybe give it a chance for a change? Not all technology is out to ruin everyone and take over.
This site sounds like it is consolidating a lot of necessary federal information in one place and will be easy to navigate for people to access that information. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works. Negativity before anything is proven is not productive and I’m willing to trust the President until proven otherwise. He deserves a chance to be listened to on this I think.
I agree. I can see how this consolidation of government services will eventually lead to less government employees. The thinning of the bureaucracy herd so to speak.

I have found, as a person with a landline only, for medical reasons,
that it is virtually impossible without a cell phone to verify yourself
at SSA website, even if you have been retired for some time, and on
Medicare.
Some people apparently like listening to a phone being unanswered, or love being placed on a hold for eterenity.
At least try it out, I did and it feels quite promising, jeez, we got a bunch of downers around!

I found that the time changing that passed in Congress is sitting waiting for the do nothing senate to pass it , so I guess that is way too hard for the vacant legislatures to drop. I suspect it will lie there and be forgotten as always.

The one benefit I see that may have not been mentioned is that this system clearly identifies who you are. This comes in handy when someone wants to register to vote. Are you a citizen? The system will know.

A first glance this sounds basically the same as what the UK has, “GovOneLogin”. It streamlines every Service the Government has into one place, so one has to Login to “the government” to access any Gov Service.
