President Trump notes on his Truth Social post how the AI development overall is becoming part of a political operation within the U.S. With President Obama, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei all requesting govt regulatory capture of the AI frontiers, President Trump notes he is opposed to their “conspiracy theory” schemes.
This cleaving was always going to happen. I wrote about it on Christmas Day 2024.

What happens next is anyone’s guess. However, the greatest likelihood is an AI driven ‘October Surprise.’
Right now, I would suggest that a fully function Automated-AI frontier virus has already been created. The gate of the targeted entity or system has already been compromised, and there is someone waiting for the just right moment to launch the AI virus to take control of the system.
The timing is the “October surprise” and the event itself will be highly public, defined as both a national security threat and public threat.
The malicious AI event will capture the attention of everyone; it may even include physical harm and will most certainly involve institutional damage.
Immediate reactive responses will be demanded of the private sector AI developers and big brother govt.
The frontier group know the vulnerabilities; the political group know how to optimize for greatest growth of govt. The rest of us are just waiting to find out who is the target. [Banking, social media, Finance systems, Transportation (airlines), Energy Grid, Defense or Communication networks.]
We have a few weeks before we see the triggering event deployed.
Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei will say, “we warned,” and put blame on irresponsible Donald Trump and David Sacks.
That’s the stage set for the October surprise.
.
Keep in mind that right now there is no sec.230 protection for AI frontier labs. If they create some outcome that is profoundly negative (like, taking down a banking system), the AI developer is on the hook for the consequences. The “risk” part of their business plan is now elevating amid actuaries within each organization. Eventually, there is going to be an entire new financial industry, AI Insurance.

Is someone stopping the AI companies from regulating themselves, if they’re so worried about it? Why would government be needed?
Regulation is not for regulating the object of concern, it’s for picking winners and freezing out anyone else. Whoever pays the most is the winner.
You forget the /s, right?
You can “ghost” these people.
Throw your phone in a river. Unplug your router.
Exit the digital realm. Embrace Analog.
Become ungovernable.
Boo!
The complacent will never understand until they feel pain. Common sense has been replaced by programming.
I highly recommend listening to this interview. DHH (created Ruby on Rails) sat down with Lex last year and was against AI for programming. The first discussion at 02:56 (one of the two time stamp links I left in place — you can click the links to go to those portion of the video the others for your perusing) shows how his view changed with the “invention” of agentic coding. He discusses a lot of good things in this segment.
The overall theme is you can control how you feel about things. AI is bad is you think and dwell on that outlook (yes, there is potential bad things, but also potential to counter act the bad with the same AI). I on’t know how things will turn out, but I also agree we don’t need to control things. Be Leary of those wanting control. Musk has changed his tune because he gets that it’s a race. I think he knows how bad actors can abuse it, but there’s no reason to keep it from the “good”. Live your best life.

My synthesis of current events is that any October surprise will not neglect to blame the Russians nor forget to use them as the blame for any untoward events.
All President Trumps gains even his very reset of the world rests upon the house of cards that is uninformed public opinion.
If a military event causes a disaster and AI is considered indispensable to national defense then AI will be regulated as a national defense priority.
Are we here yet?
If such a catastrophic AI event is able to take place, does this not support the argument that these AI data centers need stronger guardrails? Like many other issues, this admin is likely focused on the financial advantages and rightfully so but discounting the potential neg societal affects.
They killed millions with their weaponized virus in 2020. They will do it again for sure.
I’d love to know who wrote this for him.
The quotes around “people” and “things” is true 5D chess, masterclass stuff. /s
It seems to me that just a few years ago everyone on this site was against spying on US citizens.
We all championed the fourth amendment. We all abhorred the patriot act.
Now, there is controversy over flock cameras on every corner, sending all personal info to be collected in data centers and
used against us in the future.
How is this controversial? Because we are told it is necessary to win the AI war? We have to give up any expectations of privacy and freedom to win? Why is that? What are we actually winning?
If so, how about we make every single govt representative wear a camera all day long, so that we can access and watch everything they do while collecting a paycheck.
the need for total control comes from fear.
if we could do away with greed ,what a golden age we could have.
Yes! Agree. Greed is the root cause.
Riots seem to be off the schedule this election year so it makes sense.
Technology drives history. Stirrups v bareback calvary. Bronze v Iron weapons. Longbow v armored knights. Steam v Coal. Diesel v Nuclear.
AI robots v ….. . This is the Manhattan project executed by private corporations, globally. It’s here and cannot be put back in the Box.
Citizens United, K street lobbyists and special interests, 40 trillion in debt, corporate media sycophants, DEI Marxist academia and fraudulent elections. Put it together and what do you get. Corporate facism.
…an AI driven ‘October Surprise.’ Interesting. A human ‘October Surprise’ and AI ‘October Surprise’ are two different things. People will react differently. 🤔
