Labor Day hits a little different this year, as there are elements outside our assembly seeking to fracture the coalition of pragmatic conservatives. The noise is louder, the distractions more intense and the stakes of resetting the economic balance sheet in favor of Main Street are higher. For all of those reasons and more, it seems more difficult to keep moving forward with economic nationalism as the roadmap.
However, we remind ourselves that everything of great purpose comes from within, and from a loving God. As Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said:
“The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world.”
It’s Labor Day in America. We pause and celebrate work, productivity, problem solving, and the value of our workforce. A nation built on ingenuity – so long as we tend the flickering flame of liberty. So, to all of you who do not take part in the grand lies and manipulations that surround us, THANK YOU!
No other nation on earth was conceived to allow people to manifest their own destiny while keeping government out of their lives. The vision, the premise and the purpose, was to allow you the freedom to determine your place in life; and even, at any time, change that determination and strike off in an entirely new direction.
Our American labor and aspirations would not be pre-determined by caste, tier, creed or social status; but rather by our personal vision for our own future. The right of self-determination. This is a uniquely American attribute.
Labor Day is a moment when we reflect on the value of work, the great benefit of endeavors achieved, the pride in accomplishment -regardless of scale- amid this thing we call life. But ultimately, all of these considerations have absolutely nothing to do with the money we assemble in the process. We ain’t taking any of it with us folks.
When you hold open the door, you make a difference. When you choose to stand against fraud and deceit, you make a difference. When you pray with purpose you make a difference. When you hold no tolerance for chaos, you make a difference. When you show up, even when you are not sure what comes next, you make a difference. When you achieve in silence because silence is not a mistake, you make a difference.
It is who you are that makes a difference. That is the currency of our life.
Regardless of your chosen occupation or effort, you do it well. You live your standard. You have paid the price for your peace. Be proud of yourself. Allow the method of your labor to express the value of who you are and celebrate the accomplishment.

12 hour swing shift, it was a 25 year career and a dam good one.
I don’t hear people talking about swing shift anymore. My dad was an underground miner in Colorado and worked swing, days and graveyard. 7 day production, no days off until “long change”, which was about 4 or 5 days and then start the whole process over again.
And I have the nerve to complain about working a 12 – hour shift on a 2 – 3 – 2 cycle. LOL
I worked swing shift for a few years but not near 25. Rough times. You must have had kids to raise too! Amazing what people who love their children will do to provide for them. Beyond human comprehension what God did for His!

A quality work ethic was one of the best things my family gave me in my upbringing and that same work ethic has been passed on to my adult children.

He was a “Bataan Death March” survivor.
He was a quiet, but purposeful man.
An outstanding role model for this wet behind the ears 16 year old (parents permission), as he knew well, both the purpose of honest work, and the meaning of living life to the fullest, come what may.
He never spoke of his time in the Philippines.
Sometimes, in an unguarded moment, he did have that far away look in his eyes.
Yet, he carried on.
He was a unique and inspirational individual I’m my early years.
Today, when times get hard, I often drift back to those days…
seeking his wisdom.

They had no time for a smartass kid and promptly informed me how the world works.

As a mason’s tender for two of the hardest working men I’d ever met, the two veteran bricklayers taught me what hard work was and didn’t suffer fools.
Set me straight right quick.
Went up 2 suit sizes by the end of the summer, courtesy of loaded brick tongs and cinder blocks.
My Dad was a WWII vet, 101st Airborne.
He was in Europe during the last bit and when the work camps were being liberated.
He never said anything about his time there but he had a hard time sleeping.
It wasn’t unusual for him to be up at night wandering around outside or sitting in a patio chair smoking.
For hours.
A couple of times I heard him crying.
Reading The Body Keeps the Score.
My healer wanted me to read it a decade ago but reading of the Vietnam vets was too painful and I stopped.
Now I can take it and I understand the behavior I have seen in some of the Vets in my family and friends.

They are lying to us and keeping us divided over issues so that they can continue to be unchallenged.
I believe the leftist ABCNNBCBS media is the root cause of so many issues we face.
I don’t have a particular problem with CBS being far left or Newsmax being well to the right. What I have a problem with is 50% of our population gets 5 minutes of leftist dribble each evening on the news, and that is what they base their thinking on.
So how do we attack? On way is to ask your senator or representative to take away the names from PBS, NPR, and all the “public” monikers from stations that are no longer funded by the feds, and totally biased.

Yesterday I was fortunate to go with six other friendly seniors from my new neighborhood to a local festival. It took me decades of looking, but communities of genuine conservative fellowship exist, we’re all in lockstep in our love for the USA, and the move from a blue state is worth the effort. Our group includes an educated, athletic UK expat, in his 70s, fully engaged and wanting to talk and to engage about the UK’s involuntary demographic shift at the hands of their elite.

But the origin of the holiday is brutal.
In 1894, workers at the Pullman rail car company went on strike after their wages were slashed by 25% while their rent in the company town stayed unchanged. When 250,000 railroad workers joined in solidarity, President Grover Cleveland dispatched 12,000 U.S. Army troops to break the strike. Dozens of workers were killed.
Facing a massive political backlash months before an election, Cleveland rushed a bill through Congress to create Labor Day as a peace offering to the American worker—signing it into law days after the strike was broken.
The date was intentionally placed in September rather than May 1st to distance the American public from the Haymarket affair and broader global labor rallies.
Every standard workplace right we take for granted today—the 8-hour day, two-day weekends, workplace safety laws, and bans on child labor—came from workers organizing, striking, and risking their livelihoods.

And even all the years I went into the demonic battlefield of work, where I was often persecuted for my silent witness to Christ (didn’t drink, didn’t tell dirty jokes or laugh at those who did, didn’t cheat on my husband or ever give the slightest inclination that I wanted to, etc.), I held this Bible verse close knowing that Christians are to do everything they do as though they are doing them for Jesus.
I fail often, which grieves my soul, but do my best to never fail the God of all creation.

IIRC, you mentioned eye problems in an earlier message, and are probably already working with Vitamin A, but just to share some recently acquired information about it with you in case you are not. Not only is it present in many readibly available foods, but enjoys this wonderful characteristic: “Neither cooking nor storage signifigantly affects the amount or availibility of preformed Vitamin A in foods.” Emphasis mine. (George Mateljan, The World’s Healthiest Foods)
Not only that, but “Excessive of ingestion of carotene does not cause toxicity of Vitamin A. It is singularly difficult to kill yourself with carrots.” (Andrew Saul, Fire Your Doctor! How to Be Independently Healthy)

Retired Magistrate here: Unfortunately a shingles flare up in that eye again; have been dealing with this for five years and when the shingles settles down then anterior uveitis sets in. Along with the shingles flare up I was just diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in the corner of the same eye; the skin cancer has fingers so it is probably traveling down my nose. I can’t have Mohs surgery (where they keep cutting away skin until it is clear) until the shingles clear up and my eye calms down. With a flare my eyesight in that eye is 20/400, without a flare 20/200 corrected to 20/70.
My cornea is beat up from all the inflammation and makes everything blurry. However, I can still see out of the eye, it is blurry but I can see and hopefully we can keep it that way. That is why I have not been posting much lately. Thankfully the other eye is good and it is doing the heavy lifting. Probably more information than you wanted to know, but JESUS will get me through this; HE has gotten me through a lot since I accepted HIM as my Personal Savior 22 years ago.
Marcia, Google “anolyte” or hypochlorous acid (hocl) and acquire a quart of either 250 ppm or 500 ppm solution. You can’t use it in your eye but if you have shingles on Amy other part of your body, including your face, spray it with the anolyte 3 to 4 times a day and let it air dry. It will get rid on shingles in days. Your body makes hocl in your white blood cells and that’s what your body uses to kill bacteria and virus. Hocl will kill “all” bacteria and viruses virtually on contact. It is the best and safest hospital grade disinfectant on the planet!

32 years at local hospital, 47 years in health care in various roles. Kept working my way up starting in medical records at 17 and just ended 20 years in the Cath Lab as a specialized x-ray tech. Technically a Rad Tech Special Procedures. Took 160 hours of call every four weeks on top of the 160 hours of regular shifts. 61.5 continuous hour call weekends. Worked countless holidays, family birthdays, plays, etc. Often too tired to eat, just needed a nap in case another call hit. 65 now, retired from the line. No more strokes, heart attacks, GI bleeds, PE’s, etc. Just take pacemaker call on occasion. Worked yesterday 8 hours and completed 3 pacers. They will get to go home today. Thanks to all who work hard to keep everything going. Happy Labor Day Treehouse.

Yes you do, because even if it isn’t acknowledged, one maintains the fundamentals of civilized society, those which seem to have been forgotten and discarded by great swaths of Americans. We’ve all seen the videos…
As the School Taxi for my three now grown nearest to me grands from preschool until they themselves could drive, I started with this when we stopped for “Icees” after I had picked them up.
From my perch, it was vitally important to me that they “learn manners”. But more so, that they would learn to see others and not themselves only. Daily repetition of their lesson, moving on when they were around 5 to doing took root. Many disgracefully sailed on through without noticing who was holding the door open. Mostly women I am sorry to say…
But the faces of my grands when they exhibited awareness and, yes, kindness (which is never wasted) were told ” Why, thank you!” was a joy to watch. As is knowing that they are now making their own differences in this world.
I hadn’t thought of this simple act as “making a difference” specifically. But in seemingly small gestures characters are built. We as individuals may not be in a position to make a great difference in the grand scheme (like President Trump) but we can start where we are….as is said, if for only one person. Even if we never know…
No one understands this more I think than those who rest from their true labors this day. Those Americans who keep this nation moving. Those who disgracefully are not seen or recognized by the people whom they send into government.
And so to these truly hardworking men and women, I say God bless you for what you contribute. I hope you enjoy this Labor Day, and thank you….we see and appreciate all of you 🇺🇸

Say “Thank you” to the check out clerk and “Smile” at the shopper you pass in the store. Small actions with people you may never see again demonstrate respect and care. A genial conversation can result about something both have shared in their separate lives in the past.
It is the great middle ground of a society. There are the laws that rule to be obeyed, and there are the individual whims, steps, or physical itches that are ignored. But the great middle ground are the actions that glue a community – picking up trash, returning a cart, generously tipping a helper, etc.
All of it, yes.
And everything you mention was added, especially making eye contact to go with that smile. Additionally, something else which is often overlooked…
When eating in a restaurant, do not leave the table until plates, cutlery, and glasses are organized as neatly as possible for clean-up.. Ditto any napkins or other detritus. Including any which may have fallen to the floor. All three of my children and the three grands I mentioned above have worked in food service during their high school and college years. Some of life’s best lessons are learned from doing that.
All under the headings of self respect and awareness of others.
If shopping on any holiday, a sincere

goes a long way.

Dear Betsy, I always look forward to, enjoy, and appreciate your thoughtful contributions to this group. Today’s stories and how you trained your children to make small differences were no exception! Your comment about being “seen and recognized” reminds me of a personal story.
Years ago, my cousin, Bonnie, and I went to visit another cousin whose three year-old son I hadn’t seen since he was a baby. After we all settled in, I turned my attention to her little boy for a minute or two and asked him about his toys, what his favorites were, what he liked most about them, etc. After a minute or two of one-on-one time with him, she told him it was time to let us visit, and he seemed content to go and play quietly nearby. When it was finally time for us to leave, I gave him a hug and said how nice it had been to meet him. The next day, my cousin called to tell me ‘the rest of the story.’
Apparently, that night as she was giving him his bath, he looked up at her and said, “Mommy, was that ‘Awice’ with Aunt Bonnie?” She said that it was. He looked up at her and said, “She noticed me.”
Out of the mouths of babes.
I can’t count how many times I have retold that story, or say how those three little words changed my life. Ever since that day,
I have tried, always, to notice people and let them know it. Cashiers, clerks, stock boys, the other person in the elevator or waiting room with me, the teenager in the drive-through window, the guy at the gas pump next to mine…
Who of us isn’t dealing with something? Who, young or old, could simply use a little more “noticing?”
It’s a priceless gift and so easy to give.

If you support freeloading off the taxpayers, illegal (open boarders) immigration, higher taxes to pay for the freeloaders, and your own government telling you how to live while watching your country turn into Ceuta, then you love Democrat/DSA policies.
If, however, you think illegal means “in violation of federal, state, or local laws”, don’t want able bodied people sitting around on their butts while you work yours off, don’t want government ruling your life, and you believe that there is a Creator and Living God and you are not your own god, then you will support Trump policies.
Labor Day honors those who labor. Not those who freeload off the work of other people. Look at the policies embraced by Leftist and ask which group of people they support.

I was traveling yesterday and, in the airport, there was an attractive young woman waiting for the same flight I was on. As the boarding began, they called for active military and the young woman proceeded towards the gate. It was then that I saw that her entire left leg was a prosthetic leg, from the hip downward. I hadn’t noticed that previously and it took my breath away as I imagined how she might have lost her leg, and what must have ensued in her life and the life of her loved ones since that happened. It filled me with gratitude that we have young men and woman who are willing to sacrifice and put their bodies on the line for the cause of our country. After boarding the plane, I noticed that the young woman had taken up a place towards the back of the plane. After being seated in the exit row I got up and went back to where she and another service member were seated and thanked them for their service. I’ve always thought that thanking service members for their service sounds somewhat perfunctory. But yesterday I felt like it was the least I could do for the service and sacrifice they had rendered.

I agree with you Sundance on all you wrote. Labor Day became a holiday at the behest of labor unions. In the beginning Labor Unions met a real need, as workers had no protection from a company that was corrupt in its dealings with its workers. Workers were paid extremely little, children worked for instance in the woolen mills, workers had no protection from fire hazards in the places in which they worked. Workers had no sick pay etc. etc. By the 1960’s I think labor unions became corrupt. What did this corruption do? It meant that wages were raised beyond the ability of the company to pay, which shifted work outside of the USA. It wasn’t just the corrupt unions that caused the US to lose manufacturing jobs. This was a globalist plan that President Clinton eagerly signed off on, to create NAFTA.
What interests me is how Trump realized what was going on in worker’s lives (I believe he was aware of this well before his run for President). He felt for the situation that the US worker was in. Working people started to listen to Trump on the campaign trail in 2015 and now we have a genuine shift of workers to MAGA, and the Republican party of Trump. (Not the RINO Republican party, the cocktail party Republicans.) This was the way the Republican party was in Lincoln’s time: the party of the little guy, the workers, and ultimately of all those who were disenfranchised. Democrats were the party of the aristocrat landowners, the slave owners and the Ku Klux Klan. Democrats opposed Radical Reconstruction from 1867 -1877, and beyond.
I think the Republican party has been made much richer for including a range of Americans, workers and other poor people, as well as wealthy people and some ultra wealthy people. It is no longer the party of the wealthy only.

I wish I could directly handle the subscription problems for you, however, we have nothing to do with the operations of “Feedblitz” – a private company.
Another problem could be your email provider. I have heard that some people have found their Treehouse updates mistakenly sent to their SPAM folders.
I’m not sure the issue, but my best guess would be your email provider does not allow email notifications from CTH.
Email and ISP providers are more frequently controlling access to online information. It is an unfortunate outcome of modern technology.
You could also try canceling your subscription and their resubscribing. The link for canceling is at the bottom of the page….
