Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).”

I’ve been playing Dolly on the radio since the days with Porter in the late ’60s. I have never ceased to be amazed, first at the purity and liquidity of her voice, and then of her songwriting, which conveyed innocence and sincerity in equal measure. Then, too, while she played on her backwoods childhood, she treasured and celebrated it, and drew upon it as a source of gentleness, faith, and inspiration, which accompanied all her performances.
Of all her songs, I find ‘Coat of Many Colors’ the most meaningful and enduring, but as others have posted links to it, I’ll add one of our favorites on Hillbilly at Harvard, ‘My Blue Tears’, from the same album (1971):
Dolly took a vacation to Ireland. This was Dolly. It was beautiful.
Dolly never found an audience that she would not immediately entertain. I don’t think that it was ever possible for her to remain “anonymous” in a bar. Nor should she ever have wished to be . . .
She had such a good heart, Mike. She was just like everybody else, never saw herself as above anyone. What a rarity she was in that quarter. We will all miss her.

What an opportunity for our nation to unite if only for a few weeks. Flags are at half mast for a week at least. Songs and interviews are being replayed triggering wonderful sentimental thoughts in all of us. And, oh yes, one is poor only if one chooses to be!

Dolly trusted the “experts”. So did many other good people I know.
Stay humble, we all fall short of the glory of God, and Dolly always did her best, you could count on that
I am humble but that doesn’t change the facts. We all must be accountable for the actions we take, especially those that stand on large platforms. The “experts” were shutting down places of worship in case you forgot.
Sad to say she was a lover of worldly things.
