Many people saw the cold murder of CEO Brian Thompson carried out by Luigi Mangione on the street in New York City. Mangione was facing state and federal charges related to the assassination. Today, Mangione pled guilty to two federal counts of stalking Thompson.
I’m not sure if this is some scheme by his defense attorneys to avoid the state murder charge; it seems like it is. According to the defense, Mangione cannot be charged by federal and state court for the same crime; therefore, a guilty plea to the federal crime of stalking looks like it is being used as an escape mechanism from the state charge of murder.
What is super creepy about this case is the amount of support Mangione has for the murder. There is a remarkable and unnerving amount of online support for him, despite his cold-blooded killing of Brian Thompson.
NEW YORK – Luigi Mangione, whose coldblooded killing of an insurance executive on a Manhattan sidewalk rattled the nation and struck fear into corporate America, pleaded guilty Friday to two federal stalking charges for the death of UnitedHealthcare leader Brian Thompson.
“On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan and he died,” Mangione solemnly told the judge during a court hearing.
Mangione, wearing tan jail garb, told the judge that he spent years enduring severe pain, including a broken back, and witnessed others with similar experiences. He said that after learning of an investor conference, he emailed UnitedHealthcare, posing as an investor at a firm managing over $50 million in assets, to request information about it.
“Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour,” Mangione added. He said he made part of a gun using a 3-D printer and planned the killing.
U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett said Mangione faces up to life in prison at his sentencing, which she set for December. Jamie McDonald, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said after Friday’s hearing that his office intended to seek the maximum penalty, saying Mangione committed the crime in order to “draw public attention to his dislike of certain businesses.”
“No grievance, political belief or ideological cause can ever justify murder,” McDonald said. “There can be no celebrity in assassination.”
Thompson’s family sat in the front row of the courtroom during the hearing. “Today’s guilty plea marks an important step toward justice for Brian and for our family,” the family said after the hearing. (read more)
If he confessed publicly to, admitted he planned and killed the insurance guy, how can his charges of murder by the state not still be valid and he be immediately found guilty, no trial needed. He admitted he killed the guy. How can he possibly get out of the state charges when he just told everyone he did it? How can a self admitted guilty person not be convicted immediately? If this legal game ends in his release then something is very wrong with our legal system.
Make no mistake, something IS very wrong with our legal system …. regardless of how this turns out.

Amen. We have often said hell will break loose when people finally see the truth. I don’t believe hell will break loose, because I don’t believe the masses will ever defend their freedom. We live in a comfort zone.

It’s like that punk that stabbed the athlete at the college event last year. Everyone saw him do it, he admitted to doing it, yet a trial (albeit a short one) was still necessary ? Should be an open and shut case without the expense of all the pageantry.
Was a time when the sheriff might be informed after the fact of extra judicial law enforcement having been conducted.
And yet, we still have his supporters, like Ben Crump, who claim he should have been acquitted because he acted in self-defense.
1. Insanity
There was a problem with some evidence due to the initial warrantless search of Mangione’s backpack. Judge ruled evidence was admissible based on later search but that ruling would probably be grounds for appeal. Perhaps the federal case is a more sure thing to get him convicted?
Again, trial is necessary when the defendant pleads not guilty.
If the defendant has admitted in open court to murder, no trial, only sentencing.
AZ, even open admission of commiting the crime in court would not eliminate a trial unless the defendant enters a guilty plea. Every criminal case requires the defendant to enter a formal plea of guilty, no contest, or not guilty.

Then the Minnesota president of Minnesota’s United Health Care is shot by another Minnesota assassin.
I think we’ll find Gov. Timmy Trillions is at the center of both of these stories.

So somehow Mangione cannot be charged by federal and NY state courts for the same crime.
But NY state courts had no problem with charging and convicting Donald J Trump with alleged violations of federal law that the feds had already dismissed.
Stalking and murder are two distinctly different things.
How does double jeopardy apply in any way?

Where is the simple straightforward murder charge and a death sentence at the end of it? This is why we have zero overall accountability with all our other blatant offenses in government and throughout America. Our legal system seeks not justice; it is nothing more than a corrupt game designed to serve the interests of its players – prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges. This is where real reform must be made if we are to survive.

Every woman who has contacted him while in jail should have a mental assessment.

Federal prisons are normally more pleasant than state ones. I suspect his attorneys, knowing he will be convicted, are preferring the federal prison.
