We traveled today for my daughter’s first counseling appointment and the agency that specializes in human trafficking was in the neighborhood I was born in. My mother’s grave is in a cemetary next door and my childhood home less than 2 miles away.

I spent some time in the midwest and can say that parts of Chicago have been horrible for many years. Why? One reason is that some people make a lot of money siphoning off the largess that gets allocated to “fix” the problems the citizens themselves have created. But it is the citizens themselves that have created the problem, and that is depressing to me. Inner city culture is both tribal and third world which creates the problems everyone else tries to solve. In other words a self inflicted injury.
There are other parts of the midwest that are really nice, however. Big 10 football is great, the areas outside cities are full of good people and the museums in the nice part of Chicago (the Field Museum comes to mind) are all worth the experience.
I agree that there are a lot of things that need fixing, and that our POTUS is doing his level best. We do not have a lot of time, and I find slim hope that Vance or Rubio will be as innovative or effective as DJT in carrying forward the MAGA banner. But both have been effective thus far, and I’ve found RFK Jr to be very effective and someone who does the right thing. So I am holding out hope.
