It’s more of an individual dog thing than breed thing, though some breeds where bread to dig out critters. like Dachshunds.
Dachshunds were bred to scent, chase, and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, which is why they have a natural instinct to dig. This digging behavior is a result of their history as hunting dogs.
Also I have found puppies love to dig, but often grow out of digging.

Knew a dog that dug to beat the heat. Ground is cooler than the summer air. At least until the freshly dug ground warms up. Then he dug a little deeper.
But that dog above dug more in one day than the dog I knew dug in two weeks.
In a “local shelter” was the first clue.
I always backfill those holes with as much of their excrement as possible, the more the better.

Yes Betsy, individual dogs of the same breed can be as different as day and night yet breed characteristics are very important when choosing a dog. Research the dog, it’s breed traits and it’s physical needs. Also consider the dogs vet needs, pets are very expensive today and some come with known health issues
Big dogs eat a lot and it gets costly.
You don’t want a Border Collie in a small apartment or an active dog if you are a couch potato.
Do your research BEFORE getting that puppy or dog. Remember you are making a life long commitment to that pet, probably 12-16 years.
People should, for their sakes and the dogs’.
Unfortunately I believe many or most people don’t think.

When we lived in Wales, we had to find someone with whom to leave our dog while we were out of the country. There was a farm in the hills above us where we took her. We were met at the gate by their three huge friendly Pyrenees. They are magnificent dogs. I’m sire the farm was well protected 👍🏻 😁

EVERY year our county touts an override to pay for fixing our pothole filled roads. Every year. (Same as the local school district)
The very same roads that weren’t fixed under the regular budget, Or…..the last overrides, will still not be fixed – but my taxes will rise. This is especially true for rural areas such as mine. I guess they figure the handful of citizens who live here are of no consequence to their political ambitions.
Here as well, sis. They are resurfacing and widening one well used road and have given the completion date as sometime in 2027. Mind, the project started in 2025!! Passed it yesterday and no one was working. We reckon the $$$ has run out. Grrrrrrr.

What is so sad Betsy is there are generations out there that will never experience that special family bond. When I was growing up, my home and most of my girlfriends homes, the Grandparents lived within the home.
For a while, I even had a Great Grandmom living with us as well. I was not in school yet, but I remember her fondly.
Yes this is exactly how I feel, Pat. As we age, which is difficult enough, there is comfort in memories where we can retreat and stay a while in those days long gone. The people we loved and who loved us are there, and we can linger.
I find that when I take those reflective journeys, I stop at one particular place, but then am drawn to others…until I have to rouse myself from reveries. I can see long gone loved ones, hear their voices and often times laughter… time really is fleeting.
Oh Betsy, this one gets me every time! I have rescued so many and miss every one of them with equal love and tears.
Tears are not optional and come unbidden. I am familiar………..
True so true. Last night for the first time, Cleo jumped onto my bed when I climbed in for the night. A first! Not sure how long she stayed as I was pretty tired and fell asleep fast.
She follows me quite a bit now and will paw at me to scratch her, although she does not like to be picked up. If I sit, she will climb on my lap but doesn’t stay too long. One night I woke and all four and Beau were on the bed. Good thing I have a king size bed. ☺️
However, her daughter Maizie, likes to get in my lap whenever the opportunity arises. Percy is a lot like her mom, does not want to be held, but she will be the first to lay down with me at night. Pumpkin is the talker and will talk to me quite a bit and lays down and stretches to get scratches and rubs, but will only tolerate being held like a baby for a short time.
They all have different personalities and I love them all.
Beau has become more tolerant with them as well. He will even go nose to nose with them. The cats are not a bit afraid of him and will challenge him to see how far they can get before Beau no longer will tolerate their shenanigans. Never a dull moment.
Oh Pat…thank you for this most wonderful and immensely satisfying update. Especially about Cleo. You were simply meant to have these waifs and strays…I shan’t believe otherwise…No, I shannot!!! 😌💕
I also believe that one day Miss Cleo will allow you to pick her up with no fuss. Progresss in dribs and drabs as we always say. With every update, you write of new behaviours. Her jumping on the bed now before you get in when she preferred the underneath for so long is proof positive of this. All of it warms my heart more than you an imagine 💕
One picture…a thousand words…
We had a big red mastiff named Rudy, named after the movie. We kept him and his sister in a pen away from the house during the day because they would fight the other dogs. At night I’d let them out to eat and come inside. They would race each other to the food in the garage.
One day I was extremely depressed and was walking back from letting them out when Rudy stopped in his tracks turned around and came and sat next to me. I sat for awhile on the edge of our driveway with him and pet myself into a better frame of mind. Each stroke was lifting.
Backstory, my middle son was a wheeler dealer, he might have been 10 and found mastiffs on Craigslist for $250 a piece. He talked them into $100 and a couple of useless iPods and we took all 3 that they had. They were so small that they fit in his hat…all 3. Two were piebald females one was red male. My middle boy took the largest which ended up being the smallest, youngest had just lost his dog a champion bullmastiff that had a heart condition from so much inbreeding. That was extremely painful for him, really all of us.
They kept these puppies in their closet and raised them there until old enough to go out side. It was amazing because they were constantly with them and the dogs were attached to them boys. We moved to a bigger place later and they were with us. Chased away all the coyotes and critters and terrorized the neighbors.
All since are gone but they were a special bunch.

I love remembrances such as yours. They confirm for me that the good Lord’s creation was intended for purpose. Beautiful purpose. No one who has ever loved a dog and been loved by one (though there are some who argue against the latter) can not feel the deep loss of their animals. I know those pangs, and they remain to this day for our lass, the runt of her litter. Too short their lives I’ve always thought…
I’d like to think someday we will see them again. Billy Graham was adamant and unshakeable in his belief that we will. I know where your lads got their big hearts, my friend…your middle son surely has one of the biggest. God bless him. Thank you for this reminiscence 💕

Ed Dowd who went through a horrible depression said the thing which helped him crawl out of it was starting to look around at others whom he could lend a hand, on whole could focus instead of himself. He followed through. I don’t know of he has a dog, but having one who depends on one for its every need would be a good place to start 💕
No truer statement! Look at all the veterans that have been helped with canines so they can return to civilian life and cope with their problems. I know quite a few of them.
A dear friend opened a horse therapy for veterans and I was involved for many years and saw how the horses helped them. They came and groomed the horses and learned how to handle them and learned how to saddle and ride them. They got to the point where they could compete every year in one particular show where they had one class that was strictly for them.
She now has mules as well and she is still running it. She is a RN and won’t retire because she wants to keep the horses and mules fed, farrier fees and vet care so the veterans have the therapy. She has tried to get some financial help but can’t seem to find the appropriate avenues to aapply for it.
I told her to contact the White House while President Trump is in office as we know how much he cares about the veterans. Haven’t talked to her for a while. I will have to get a hold of her and see how she is doing with the research.

Our mule, Maude, was such a sure-footed, loving, sweet giant. She had been discarded by the BLM when her usefulness as a pack animal waned. Our gain!

My boy Sweeney came to us as a rescue (and boy, did he need rescuing) at 6 1/2. I knew we wouldn’t have enough time with him, but he did thankfully live to 13 and I treasure every moment. Truly an angel on earth.
Sweeney had every right to be angry, aloof, resentful of humans – but chose to be loving.
What I wouldn’t do for one last hug. ❤️

Love this. I have been there and done this many, many times, and still do with Beau. I also can put my arms around my horse, Blue’s neck and he will stand quite still until I let go. They know when we need their strength.
There are also days that Blue will just let me lay my head on his “big old quarter horse” hip and he will stay still for as long as I need.💕
Every living creature needs another, Pat. What lovely lads are your Beau and Blue. That innate animal sense no one can explain and so deny the existence of. It’s there all right…and it is both beautiful and heartwarming 💕

Good evening Su. If I could figure out how to get pictures on here, I would but I am technically challenged and have limited knowledge when it comes to computers. If I could get my Grandson to stand still for a decent length of time, I could get him to show me how to do it. Working on computers, trouble shooting problems, is his career choice.
Blue is my stallion from my former ranch where I bred working Quarter Horses. He is all that is left of my horses. He is now 30 years old and I am almost 76, so keeping a ranch, breeding, showing and riding horses is now just very fond memories. Last time I rode was right before I turned 70.

Afternoon, dear Bet. I’ve always been a ‘night owl’, preferring to do even serious work in the earliest morning hours. So, 3am seems perfectly normal to me.
Since I tend to work very slowly, the quiet and solitude of early morning hours just seems a natural fit for my work preferences. Working at more normal times all too often involves having to answer to . . . ‘you mean your haven’t finished that . . . yet??? . . .’ So, I just learned to do serious work when nobody’s around. Very early mornings turned out to be a perfect fit. Always good to read your kind words. Be well, love. 🙂

Unfortunately, they have been wrong repeatedly this monsoon season. Of course, the rains in this season don’t come in huge hours long swathes as they often do back East. Rather, individual small systems make their way up from Mexico. Often, it will be raining a mile or two away, and skip us. Pretty frustrating, especially given the fire danger associated.
Wheezie and Olive are looking good! Two vets didn’t think Olive had more than a couple weeks max. That was on June 24 – so, no matter what the future holds, she has beaten the odds! She’s a fighter.
Two of my elder kitties are struggling a bit, but still eating, purring, and curling up. They are day by day.

COMMENTARY FOR ISAIAH 44
Here are promises of the influences of the Holy Spirit. (1-8) An exposure of the folly of idolatry. (9-20) Also the deliverance of God’s people. (21-28)
1-8 Israel is here called Jeshurun, which means “the upright one.” Such only are Israelites indeed, in whom is no guile. Those that serve God he will own. He will help them over difficulties, and in their services. Water is the emblem of the Holy Spirit; as water refreshes, cleanses, and makes the earth fruitful, so do his influences the soul. This gift of the Holy Ghost is the great blessing, the plentiful pouring out of which God kept for the latter days. Where God gives his Spirit, he will give all other blessings. Hereby shall be a great increase of the church; thus it shall be spread to distant places. Was there any other Rock, or Protector, that could defend them? None besides could foretell these things to come, of which God by his prophets gave notice. All was set in order in the Divine predictions, as well as in the Divine purposes. Could any other have done so? Who can compare with Israel’s Redeemer and King?
9-20 Image-making is described, to expose the folly of idolaters. Though a man had used part of a log for fuel, he fell down before an image made of the remainder, praying it to deliver him. Man greatly dishonours God, when he represents him after the image of man. Satan blinds the eyes of unbelievers, causing absurd reasonings in matters of religion. Whether men seek happiness in worldly things, or run into unbelief, superstition, or any false system, they feed on ashes. A heart deceived by pride, love of sin, and departure from God, turns men aside from his holy truth and worship. While the affections are depraved, a man holds fast the lie as his best treasure. Are our hearts set upon the wealth of the world and its pleasures? They will certainly prove a lie. If we trust to outward professions and doings, as if those would save us, we deceive ourselves. Self-suspicion is the first step towards self-deliverance. He that would deliver his soul, must question his conscience, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
21-28 Return unto me. It is the great concern of those who have backslidden from God, like the Jews of old, to hasten their return to him. The work of redemption wrought for us by Christ, encourages to hope for all blessings from him. Our transgressions and our sins are as a thick cloud between heaven and earth: sins separate between us and God; they threaten a storm of wrath. When God pardons sin, he blots out, he dispels this cloud, this thick cloud, so that the way to heaven is open again. The cloud is scattered by the Sun of righteousness; it is quite gone. The comforts that flow into the soul when sin is pardoned, are like clear shining after clouds and rain. Let not Israel be discouraged; nothing is too hard for God: having made all, he can make what use he pleases of any. Those that learn to know Christ, see all knowledge to be foolishness, in comparison with the knowledge of him. And his enemies will find their counsels turned into foolishness, and themselves taken in their craftiness. The exact fulfilling the prophecies of Scripture confirms the truth of the whole, and proves its Divine origin. The particular favours God designed for his people in captivity, were foretold here, long before they went into captivity. Very great difficulties would be in the way of their deliverance; but it is promised that by Divine power they should all be removed. God knew who should be the Deliverer of his people; and let his church know it, that when they heard such a name talked of, they might know their redemption drew nigh. It is the greatest honour of the greatest men, to be employed as instruments of the Divine favour to his people. In things wherein men serve themselves, and look no further, God makes them do all his pleasure. And a nobler Shepherd than Cyrus does his Father’s will, till his work is fully completed.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Good afternoon Mo Peace. Thank you for these wonderful works of art. Thank you for introducing me to all these new artists. I have two sisters that can draw and paint but alas, I can not. My art is fabric for quilts. I throw some fabric on the floor and if I like the combinations, I make a quilt and if not, I take one away and throw another one down until I like what I see! 🤣 It seems to be a good method as the quilts have all turned out beautiful. I also do not use solid colored fabric, I choose patterned fabric and it works out quite well. My quilts never are boring to look at!
Note: The Amish say you need a dark colored fabric, a medium colored fabric and a light colored fabric (which they call the sparkle) in their quilts. They also purposely have a mistake in their quilts, which you will never see, because they say God is the only perfect thing.
If I can ever figure out how to put up photos, I will show some of my quilts I have made.

Hope you saw today that the Trump Administration is going all in on hiring vets as truck drivers. This will replace the illegal, non-English speaking, dangerous, anti-American vermin the Bidet Administration imported.
My understanding is that vets who drove heavy equipment/trucks in the service can skip the requirements to get their CDL.
Those who do not have that experience, but would like a CDL, can take a course during their last 6 months of service (paid for) and be ready for a job almost immediately.
There are already top trucking companies pledging thousands of jobs.
It makes so much sense, I’m surprised it is government sponsored.

Thank you ma’am, I did read about the truck driving incentives that are being rolled out. I do not believe my future would lie down that path though, with self-driving trucks on the horizon I do not think humans will be driving such things 10 years from now. I am currently looking to apply for a maintenance position with the local CBP here, $17.75 to start with federal benefits.
