Saw Canadian Burton Cummings live at a free concert in Albany NY July 7, 2011. Loved his voice, so excited to see him, but what I still take from that show nearly 15 years ago was his comment about America. He told the audience we had no idea how lucky we were to be American, and that we should kiss the ground we were standing on. While I’ve always loved my country, I never realized how meaningful those words were, certainly at the time. I do now.

There have been 4 major revolutions in the past 250 years: American, French, Russian, and Chinese. Only one led to individual rights and prosperity. The others led to mass death and tyranny. The US revolution was unique because it said two things: 1. Our rights come from God not from the govt. 2. Humans are power -hungry so we need to limit govt power. So the next time someone attacks the nation of one revolution that succeeded and recycles the the idea of those that miserably failed, you can ask them: are you ignorant, or malicious?

I am not interested in a 2nd Socialist dictatorship republic.
Other than tiny San Marino which has a population of about 3400 and is completely within Italy here are the three longest republics. The US has done quite well.
Venice: republic 697–1797 → 1,100 years (end year 1797; not continuing into today).
United States: constitution effective March 4, 1789 → 237 years as of July 4, 2026.
Switzerland: modern federal constitution 1848 → 178 years as of July 4, 2026.
A republic if you can keep it.
As folks get lost in the weeds of “democrats shifting left towards communism”, even the moderates among them support the shift … consider the reason why and it has nothing to do with a desire to implement a socialist-communist state.
Since 1917, not a single attempt at implementing a socialist-communist state has been attempted without first putting in a totalitarian government (typically fascist) to force the implementation. It is this known HISTORICAL FACT that has drawn the power crazed democrats (communist to moderate) to adopting the communist form of society. As well as, the fact that Every single self proclaimed socialist-communist state was (still is) ruled over by a layer of RICH and PRIVILEGED Elites … who claim power because their superior understanding is needed to guide the masses to the truth.

I noticed the second communist kept saying “in the near term” in regards to police and prisons – indicating that in the long term they do in fact wish to eliminate them both.

KY law now states that the seat is only filled with a special election.

When Abraham Lincoln wrote these words in his Gettysburg Address, he was not the first one to employ the term, “of the people, by the people, and for the People.” Roman Catholic dissident professor of Religion at the University of Oxford, England, and Protestant Reformer, John Wycliff, who was the first to translate the Bible from the scholarly Latin language into the people’s language, English, coined the phrase some five hundred years earlier than when Lincoln said it.
R.J. Rushdoony, in his Magnum Opus, “The Institutes of Biblical Law,” points this out in is introduction to that fine work that Wyclif wrote these words, “in order for the people to read the Bible for themselves and be free, it must be in the peoples common language.” At Oxford, in those days, the common language, was English. Maybe not so much today. How far have we fallen?
It was John Wyclif who first came up with that phrase, not Lincoln. With a little acknowledgment to Almighty God, He said, “This Bible, is of the people, by the people and for the people.” He determined that for the people to be free, they must be given access to God’s word, not withhold it from them as was common by the kings and queens and bishops and popes of the UK and Central Europe during the Middle [Dark] Ages.
That prompted the notion coming out of the 16th Century Protestant Reformation by John Calvin the concept of “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.” Modern Intelligent Design Scientists such as James Tour, world renown chemist and Nanotech innovator, and Stphen Meyer author of “Signature in the Cell,” and other fine scientific works, has adequately determined the human DNA code is evidence of an Intelligent Designer, who we call God.
Theirs and many other scientists before them going as far back as the 17th Century, understood the laws of God in nature, and it was proven by their vast discoveries in science, that prompted modern English author and Christian apologist and Cambridge scholar, Os Guineness to declare the 17th Century “the Century of the Bible.”
Not only did the Church, and Science have great advances in learning and understanding in these years, but also political views had drastically changed for the good, from one where kings and queens and bishops and popes dominated the people’s social order, to one where the people called the Civil Magistrate and the clergy, to live according to the same laws as they forced upon the people.
The book “Lex Rex” the law is king, by Scottish Theologian and Presbyterian pastor Samuel Rutherford, was written in 1644, was the trifecta marriage of Theology, Science, and Politics. Some called it a golden age of a religious and a moral people. But the best was yet to come.
The United States of America didn’t just happen by osmoses. It was a two-hundred-year work in progress. Many political scientists and scholars have declared French-Swiss Reformer, John Calvin to be “America’s first Founding Fathers.” One of the reasons because of his understanding of the “three uses of the law.” The Civil Magistrate is separate from the Church and Family, and all three must remain in their own lanes or become tyrants. England under their Puritan Parliament and Oliver Cromwell proved that when they dethroned King Charles for treason, raising an army to defend his throne against his own people.
What’s all that got to do with the Fourth of July? Everything.
Then along came the migration of the persecuted Church to the shores of Massachusetts, and Virginia and the other Central and Southern Atlantic Colonies of North America, to establish a Christian [Protestant] Civilization.
Thomas Jefferson, though getting a bit distracted by the French Enlightenment, still had enough Puritan thought and insights to remember the English Reformation, when he penned, “the laws of nature, and of nature’s God, in the Declaration of Independence, and “we’re endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights; the right to life, liberty and property,” according to a higher standard, from many of modern men living today, who think they can determine truth for themselves apart from the Laws of Nature, and of Nature’s God. Modern pastor, teacher and historian George Grant said, “to our grave peril!”
It is imperative that we get these things right, as did our Founders. Even those who may not have understood it all perfectly, the majority, however, did. Just before the signing of the Constitution and squabbles broke out among the colonies continued to restrict their association that made it appear a union might not ever happen, the elder statesman from Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin, not the most religious of our Father’s, spoke up and said; “… and if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that “except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.”
From that point on, the Holy Spirit worked in them to come to the place where for the past two hundred and fifty years, we have enjoyed their sacrifices, and as a result, received the blessings of [mostly] peace, safety and prosperity. And it cannot be disputed that our God has smiled on our nation. As we collectively turn to other god’s, how much longer will the One True God restrain His judgment on a people who have forgotten Him, and abandoned His eternal principles?
Conclusion
I know for some of you this has been long and boring, and you probably don’t care to hear any more, but I’m going to give that great famous quote by the French historian Alexis de Tocqueville, anyway. This is a special day. Two Hundred and Fifty year celebrations don’t come around too often. The very fact that we are still called one nation, [some still use the phrase “under God”] despite all the enemies within our collective camps, is evidence that our God appears maybe to not be finished with us, yet.
The 19th Century French philosopher/historian, in his well-known book, “Democracy in America,” wrote this; “In the end, the state of the Union comes down to the character of the people. I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there. In the fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there. In her rich mines and her vast world of commerce, and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits, thunder with righteousness, did I understand the secret of her genius and her power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
Yes, I know, we’re not a Democracy. What would you expect of a Frenchman? Even as Franklin understood this correctly, and said, “we’re a Republic; if you can keep it!” I think maybe it’s been given away long ago,
That is our challenge today. Will we remain a free Republic? Has America ceased to be good? It might appear so to some. Most would agree we have ceased to be great. If you think men should be allowed to compete in woman’s sports is a good or great thing, you might need to check your citizenship at the door, as far as I’m concerned.
We need churches whose pulpits will once again “thunder with righteousness,” and not those who will accommodate evil. Or will we continue to deconstruct into all other forms of evil governance where other great empires have fallen before us. May God grant us the wisdom and the understanding to learn from their mistakes, and see and repent of our own, and return to the government of our Founding Era, not just a Bible, but “a government of the People and by the People and for the People.” Will we remain free? Or will we continue to give it away?
As for me and my house; we will choose the Lord’s way. If you are an American, and enjoying the freedom and liberty like nowhere else ever in this world before, you should too. Enjoy this freedom while it’s here to celebrate and prepare to defend it with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind. And never take it for granted.
