The original indictment carried 17 counts against him. Today, John Bolton has pleaded guilty to one felony of willfully retaining classified information. The plea agreement includes a max term of 5 years prison, $2.25 million fine and forfeiture of his federal pension.
U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes made the announcement saying: “John Robert Bolton II plead guilty in federal court to the unlawful retention of national defense information…Mr. Bolton faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison followed by a term of up to three years of supervised release. He will also pay a fine of $2.25 million and will forfeit his pension.”

Apparently, the fine is the income Bolton received from the book he authored using the classified information.
According to Politico the single charge plea “is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, but under the terms of the deal, Bolton, 77, can withdraw his plea and go to trial if Chuang decides a sentence of more than five years is warranted.”

I will be equally surprised and delighted if he receives a multiple-year prison sentence.
It will be amazing if he gets ANY prison time. But who knows? Maybe this judge is one who sees the value in “sending a message”.

This is two tier justice. What president Biden did as senator was worse and yet no sentence and no fine. At the very least he should have been found guilty in a court of law even if a judge decided not to send him to jail. At the very least his reputation as a good Democrat would have been publicly completely tarnished and the idea of a Biden presidential library a joke.

After he’s sentenced, Trump should pardon him in order to show magnanimity. But actually to embarass and lord over the fool Bolton.

Didn’t Clinton’s National Security Advisor, “Sandy” Berger, steal classified materials from the National Archives in 2003 by stuffing them into his suit pockets, socks, and pants, hiding some documents under a nearby construction trailer, and destroying others, without severe consequences?
Bolton needs to spend at least SOME time in Club Fed somewhere. Even just a few months would be crushing to his massive entitled ego.
