Tonight is another primary election in a batch of states including, Maine, South Carolina, Nevada and North Dakota.
One surprise I just noticed is the horrible fibber and gaslighter Nancy Mace failing miserably in her quest for South Carolina Governor. Nancy Mace is in fifth place.

Mace floated in/out of never-Trump world for a while in congress and generally pontificated about things while accomplishing very little. She eventually hung her credibility on the Epstein File stuff. It doesn’t look like that approach worked out too well for her.

Agreed. I voted for Wilson for Governor and Lynch for Senate, knowing he did not have a real chance. Politics has been so ugly for decades. You can’t get good people to run anymore. Mace endorsed Wilson after her loss. I was surprised by that and glad there will be a change in her district.

about 6 months ago I invited my two local (GOP) state legislators for a private lunch to discuss a list of issues I have concern about in SC, which is light years behind neighboring states in the most simple, logical laws. It took 8 years to pass the recent hands on mobile driving law…an absolute no-brainer.
My major concern, however, was open primaries. I wanted to know why, with a strong GOP majority, they could not insure we could select our own candidates. Never did get a clear answer except it was pretty obvious it’s a good ole boy, don’t rock the boat mentality….and I seriously doubt it will ever change. Very disappointing.
And splitter strategy. Graham never has to go mano a mano against a good candidate.
Same for TN, it is how the RINOs keep winning and they owe Democrats for the win.

His main competition was Mark Lynch, a man with decades old cocaine trafficking and DUI convictions. He sounds good on paper, but there is just something about him that didn’t sit right with me.
I think a stronger more likable candidate would have a shot at Graham. I know I’ll still vote for him in November because I do not want any democrats to win, let alone one who could help flip the senate.
Lynch’s cocaine arrest happened at 22 I don’t think mistakes at that age should be held against us in perpetuity unless they are repeated.

My understanding is that it wasn’t a one time incident. There were multiple arrests, including DUI. I agree the political machine in SC got a lot of mileage out of his youthful indiscretions. The turnout in SC was around 25%. The solution is to get people to turnout. But what you find with the RINO Republican Party in all states is that they are comfortable with LOW TURNOUT.. RINOS and D crossover gets the job done. I witness it in TN. The local party does not care about increasing turnout.
Yep … here in TX it was 23% for the run off between John “Corny Dog” Cornyn and Ken Paxton.
It was only Cornyn’s total unpopularity and President Trump’s last minute endorsements that won the day for Paxton.
It has been how the State RNC’s have rolled since demise of the Tea Party, brought on by the Republican Party. Holding turn low (below 20-30%) makes it easy to impact selections via partisan block voting with a dose of mail in ballots. … as well as shifting election rules.
People forget that it is the POLITICAL Party’s that run the primaries and set the rules … with respect to primaries the only thing State and Federal Governments regulate is FINANCE and CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLIANCE.
For the elections leading up to the run-off’s in TX the turn out was <15% … the fun part about that number is that election before the run off elected mayors and county officials as well as passed or denied $$$BOND ISSUES and elected school boards.
These elections were not well advertised and the BOND ISSUES were not really advertised as well.
Then people have the nerve to bitch about taxes and crappy local government.
TN Turnout for the August Primaries has been in the mid Teens also. Again it is easier to rig it and costs less with lower turnout. TN overall turnout in all elections has been trending DOWN. The only time it goes up and hits the 70% turnout is when President Donald J Trump is on the ballot.

On the ground report from Central Maine in Piscataquis County which is large enough to hold Rhode Island and is considered a wilderness (less than 3 or 5 people per square mile.) The county has 14,000 people.
Our little town went 18/21 for Planter and 38/41 for Collins and LePage (Congress, former governor).
Based on the upcoming election, we might have to consider moving out of state.
Mills and Bellows got no traction.

What happens downstate is another story to be played out as that is democrat territory.
The election for governor on both sides showed no clear momentum for any candidate. Votes split. Two candidates received no votes on the republican side. Only dividing the ballot.
On the democratic side, Bellows, as the current secretary of state, got minimal support. Granted, we have few numbers to make any real decision on. Weak performance.
Same is true for the grandson of Angus King (repub governor candidate) and Pingree’s daughter for Governer on the dem side.
No kings for King, Bush, and Pingree. It’s like the family names didn’t provide the expect boost. Maybe the time for political dynasties in Maine is over. haha
The ranked choice voting produced a mess for us who hand-tallied the votes.
Eight republican candidates. People voted for all eight. People voted for one candidate across the board. We saw geometric voting from 1 to 8.
The theme of the day, was that no one liked ranked-choice!

The republican governor’s race is wide open. Nobody did well. The vote was too split to show anything. I will say, the Bush family candidate was for Governor did get some support up north. A fix might be in.

The Democratic ballot for our town DID NOT include any candidates or write-in capability for several county-wide positions:
County Commissioner
Register of Deeds
County Sheriff
County Treasurer
The Republican ballot did not include voting for the County District Attorney.
What a mess!
Also, the tally sheets provided by the state for the democrat ballot matched the actual order on the ballot.
The tally sheets for the republican ballot were in a different order and created an obstacle in tallying the votes.
This had to be (politically) intentional!
