I have spent a lot of time around people. Out of a general sense of curiosity, I watched the Scott Pelley interview with NYT journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro, who, by professional obligation and sense of career enhancement, stepped into the role of codependent enabler in order to advance a professional narrative that is very disturbing to witness.
In this short video segment below, less than a minute long, what we see is a glimpse into the world of deeply disturbed and mentally unstable people; very likely narcissists, with intensely overstated internal senses of grandiosity and self-importance.
That sense of identity is certainly why these trait carriers need to cloister together in groups, tribal media, in order to receive the affirmation needed to retain their worldview without challenge. These are deeply intolerant, and emotionally unstable people.
What you see below is not emotionally mature or mentally stable behavior. What is witnessed in this video is a psychological pathology and a codependent enabler of that pathology, under the mistaken premise of sensitivity.
This is the opposite of intellectual. This is a disturbed child in an adult physiology. It is alarming to witness outside a clinical or institutional setting. WATCH:
♦ Take it or leave it advice. If you ever encounter this personality trait in a person or group, professionally or personally, I would strongly advise exiting the proximity as quickly and carefully as possible.
Find a way to get away. Do not engage. Do not attempt to talk, discuss, frame counterpoints, debate or engage this mindset with any challenge. Just politely disappear in the least controversial way possible.
There’s no benefit to engaging with unstable people—protect your own peace by avoiding contact. This applies both online and in person. In either case, politely excuse yourself or leave safely.
Be cautious while doing so; it might feel like you’re holding your breath until you’re away, but the main goal is creating distance. Excuse yourself however necessary and find a safe way to leave quietly and without drawing attention but do so with urgency.
The full interview is below. I caution anyone who might be tempted to watch this interview, there is a particular horror in knowing there are people carrying these traits in positions of influence. Jim Jones was less to fear.
It is best to leave management of this psychology to the experts in the field.
There are a lot of people like this in Washington DC, in various stages of this mindset, particularly in the White House correspondents’ media pool.
Having navigated a life of specific control, Scott Pelley represents the apex level of this psychological disorder. When left unchecked for this long, there is no recovery possible. Mr. Pelley will never be wrong in anything, ever.

My husband had two siblings and a mother with the same mental problems as this sick weirdo.
He tried for decades to treat them like a normal, mentally healthy adult.
He finally gave up and cut off all ties thank heavens.
The stress in trying to deal with them was so extreme I think he had a bit of PTSD from trying to understand them and get along.
One was his crazy a**ed mother and two were sisters.
I had limited my exposure to them considerably but it took him a while to understand what was going on.
It is not easy to cut off ties to your Mom but he finally did and it took a few years for him to calm down mentally.
I have a friend who has a mother such as you describe. Her husband was a rock for her, and basically told her to walk away from her mother because she was killing her slowly. She did, and she became a much more stable person after that.
You can bet the hired help doesn’t miss him.

If I ever watched 60 Minutes it was so long ago I cannot remember when it was or a single episode. To me it is only one of those holes in the TV schedule that I just click on by with the remote.
I quit watching any of the Sunday morning shows back around 2008 or 2009, and even then it was almost only Fox Sunday. Remember how Obama had his campaign and later his new administration boycott that show because it was somehow biased? Then Chris Wallace gave in to Obama’s demand to change the format or his people would never come on the show. Before that, it was standard that the Republican and Democrat guests would be on air at the same time discussing back and forth whatever the topic was, but after Wallace gave in, it became standard for the Republican to go on first and then followed by the Democrat who would spend his or her time refuting everything the Republican had said. Wallace never tried to push back on any of that and it worked out perfect for the Democrats and is now pretty much the standard everywhere. Shannon Bream seems okay, but not enough for me to fit the show back into my Sunday morning routine.
As for any other “news” or current affairs commentary on TV, I watch almost none of it on any channel. I do occasionally watch the early morning local channels, but mostly only to see the weather and traffic updates, and sometimes even that proves to be incorrect.
Agree with everything you said except Shannon Bream…she’s a hack through and through. She’s just mastered the twisting of words better. I guess that makes her a “twister.”
As I said, I don’t watch much of any of the regular media, including Fox. What I’ve seen of Bream is only the occasional clip now and then and she seemed okay in those. I’ve never sat through a whole show of hers, so I’ll take your word for what she’s like most of the time.

When I was young I thought such as Pelley were normal because of whom I often met. When I became an adult I learned to keep a good distance from them when I could and when I couldn’t, for example, at work, I learned to stay quite and keep my head down. Thank you for publishing this and helping me heal from such abusive people.
