I have spent a lot of time around people. Out of a general sense of curiosity, I watched the Scott Pelley interview with NYT journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro, who, by professional obligation and sense of career enhancement, stepped into the role of codependent enabler in order to advance a professional narrative that is very disturbing to witness.
In this short video segment below, less than a minute long, what we see is a glimpse into the world of deeply disturbed and mentally unstable people; very likely narcissists, with intensely overstated internal senses of grandiosity and self-importance.
That sense of identity is certainly why these trait carriers need to cloister together in groups, tribal media, in order to receive the affirmation needed to retain their worldview without challenge. These are deeply intolerant, and emotionally unstable people.
What you see below is not emotionally mature or mentally stable behavior. What is witnessed in this video is a psychological pathology and a codependent enabler of that pathology, under the mistaken premise of sensitivity.
This is the opposite of intellectual. This is a disturbed child in an adult physiology. It is alarming to witness outside a clinical or institutional setting. WATCH:
♦ Take it or leave it advice. If you ever encounter this personality trait in a person or group, professionally or personally, I would strongly advise exiting the proximity as quickly and carefully as possible.
Find a way to get away. Do not engage. Do not attempt to talk, discuss, frame counterpoints, debate or engage this mindset with any challenge. Just politely disappear in the least controversial way possible.
There’s no benefit to engaging with unstable people—protect your own peace by avoiding contact. This applies both online and in person. In either case, politely excuse yourself or leave safely.
Be cautious while doing so; it might feel like you’re holding your breath until you’re away, but the main goal is creating distance. Excuse yourself however necessary and find a safe way to leave quietly and without drawing attention but do so with urgency.
The full interview is below. I caution anyone who might be tempted to watch this interview, there is a particular horror in knowing there are people carrying these traits in positions of influence. Jim Jones was less to fear.
It is best to leave management of this psychology to the experts in the field.
There are a lot of people like this in Washington DC, in various stages of this mindset, particularly in the White House correspondents’ media pool.
Having navigated a life of specific control, Scott Pelley represents the apex level of this psychological disorder. When left unchecked for this long, there is no recovery possible. Mr. Pelley will never be wrong in anything, ever.
From the position of his shoes in the closet, to the fold of his towels and the shape of his eggs in the morning, to the acceptable sounds he will tolerate walking through a park; everything is viewed through the prism of self.
Behind that self is a deeply disturbed loathing.
Keep distance. Preserve your peace.
He drips cringe.
Dear Mr. Pelley: There are many kinds of combat in this world and some don’t involve sitting in rain-filled foxholes. Our Commander-in-Chief is familiar with most of them….and he’s been shot at, too…more than once !
Perfectly said!!! Ty
Rain-filled foxholes in the DESERT no less! I guess old Scott never took an earth science class.
Most of us knew this just by watching this cringe on TV. It oozes out of his pores.
Ah, and to think what I have been missing by not watching the corporate media…
I did exactly what Sundance advises during covid. I had 3 friends and no family members that I could trust. Honestly, they would have identified me and in no situation would the consequences been good. Numbers give them security while obliterating rationaliization. I thank God for being there in the darkest hours.
This ^
Covid allowed me to clearly see people as they were.
A person’s thoughts on Covid is an association excellent filter.
Someone (can’t remember where I read it) wrote an essay about this very thing titled something like “Would you hide a Jew?” It really brought it home how threatened people were against anyone who thought differently than them. It really nailed the situation during COVID.
Full goose crazy self centered little child.
If this little toad ever climbed into a real foxhole near the front lines…..I’ll eat my combat boots. Flat out lying dog that hate envies the military. Never did a single action in their entire existence which wasn’t self serving would be an appropriate epitaph.
Foxhole in the desert filling up with water? Unless you’re next to a wadi or on the beach in the ME, what would be the origin of that water. I’ve been in the desert when it rains. I call BS on that stupid statement.
Liberal tears?
Notice the eyes cast down and to the left.
Full liar mode……they are so obvious.
“I’ve been in combat for this country.”
Lol dude, you tagged along with an active duty unit that most likely did not want you there, saw you as a burden at best and a liability at worst, another weight they had to ruck around while attempting to do their jobs, knowing the whole time that you could end their careers and destroy their lives with one stroke of your pen. I have more respect for the airmen I had to kick out for UCMJ violations. At least those kids signed their lives away and wore the uniform. You are not Tom Cruise’s character from Edge of Tomorrow.
Oh, and President Trump has taken a bullet for this country. Literally a bullet to the head.
What a whiny, wretched thing this man is.
Scott, were you with the same combat unit that Brian Williams was?
Yes. You make a good point Yin, about the repeated assassination attempts on Trump, and don’t forget, how President Trump had an election stolen from him and Lawfare waged against him and his family for years by the corrupt governmentcrats. Trump has demonstrated real love of country and a real ideal that he fights for everyday.
These journos can’t tell the real story because, in their own minds, they are all William Morrow in the foxhole. In reality they are paid outrageous salaries to speak in melodious terms about nothing. How dare someone yank the chain on his own melodrama mid stream.
Had to look up who he was. No cable for a very long time. Now that I know who he is I thank you Sundance for telling me what also.
would add –
While creating distance apply the appearance, will say it again – appear, to be humbled while distancing oneself so that the individual quickly forgets you even exist –
to distance while adding to make a statement such as even a simple micky mouse finger actually cements their focus upon you as their latest target and people with that particular mindset never ever ever let go until they have demolished their target.
speaking from experience.
Agree
Many similarities with Meghan Markle and her idiot husband.
Pelley is an 8th-grade boy posing as an adult man.
IMO, most of the MSM (all shapes, sizes, and forms) is full of people like Pelley.
Sadly, the MSM is not the only place where 8th graders (male and female) pose as adult men and women.
Sometimes they even have an “R” behind their names.
For the record, I am far from perfect myself.
The Left (media, academia, politics, etc.) is middle school with bigger people.
Each of the “major networks” has their crowning glory of cringe, unpleasantness.
Yesterday’s example from NBC’s Kristen Welker berating our magnificent President Trump ended satisfyingly for me; in fact, I generally avoid such an experience so as to not be sickened – but went ahead and watched the last few minutes as dear President Trump concluded the interview.
It occurs to me that what Ms. Welker was doing as usual “in the name of journalism” is performance art, of a one-woman show of what it looks like to subject yourself to a struggle session during Mao’s Cultural Revolution where the targeted person is blasted with verbiage without a chance to even form a defense; Ms. Welker is the inquisitor.
Why should any still-free American sit still for that?
My favorite part was when she called after him, “But I came all the way to Wisconsin…!”
‘Poor Baby’, Scott Pelley. Sundance has described him perfectly.
BTW, this is the second day I have encountered no McAfee Virus on this site. Thank you.
Ditto on the McAfee ad! What a rude disruption!
Yet another mentally ill operative. 😱
Pelley says that journalists get into that line of work because they love the 1st Amendment and they love their country.
The fact that he actually believes what he’s saying is disturbing, and evidence of deep psychological trauma.
The truth is that Pelley, like most “journalists,” doesn’t love anything but himself. Self worship is his religion and his reason for being.
Anyone who wants to understand how evil the journalism business is, and why it’s so dangerous, should watch this interview in its entirety. It is shockingly disturbing.
I think there is a lot of similarity between journalists and lawyers. Journalists use the 1st amendment as weapon to get what they want. Lawyers do the same claiming protection of the legal rights and due process of criminals.
Any profession (Medicine included) we can become so self righteous and self aggrandizing that we become blind to big picture of the universe and think it is all about us.
Journalists and lawyers, in my experience, tend to get steeped — no marinated in this mindset
The antidote is in daily disciplining ourselves to be remined of our place in this world:
John the Baptist: He must be come greater, I must become less
We are created by the Creator of the universe for the purpose of reflecting His Glory
“Count others better than yourselves”
I count everything (all my accomplishments) rubbish, save for knowing Christ
Submit to one another. Confess your faults to one another
When you see the speck in your brothers eye, remember the beam in your own
If you see your brother stumbling, restore him gently, without passing judgement
Rigorous daily discipline, in fellowship with others is what keeps us functioning in our optimal purpose
The Constitution was designed to protect this environment for every individual.
Yes, the force of darkness is strong within Scott Pelley.
My wife worked in TV news as an associate producer and had to work with “talent”. I met a few of them and I say with great confidence they’re all like this guy, just with various degrees of cringe.
Ron Burgundy was no exaggeration. They are really that bad.
Nutter
Just another arrogant prick
He definitely had three boosters.
Louis XIV stated, “L’etat c’est moi” and Pelley stated, “L’network c’est moi”.
Delusional observations, in any event. As to his “service” in a time of war, if he’s waiting for his Purple Heart for the paper cut he got while in “action”, he should not hold his breath.
That short segment belongs in a Soap Opera. CBS could move him into a “Wars of our lives” type of daytime Soap Opera series…
There are many Scott’s in the media and Government and in public.
Programmers have become successful in high jacking of the minds or weak people.
In 1943, the Lutheran pastor and member of the German resistance, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was arrested and incarcerated in Tegel Prison. There, he pondered why the German people had drifted so far from morality and reason despite their extensive education, culture, and intellectual accomplishments. He came to the conclusion that they had suffered from collective stupidity (German: Dummheit) as a people.
He made it apparent that stupidity is not the antithesis of natural intelligence, and he wasn’t being casual or sarcastic. Conversely, the events that transpired in Germany between 1933 and 1943 had demonstrated to him that even highly intelligent people could become stupid; that is, unable to think critically due to the influence of political power and propaganda.
As he wrote, “Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than wickedness. Evil can be protested against, exposed, and, if necessary, it can be prevented by force. Evil always harbors the germ of self-destruction by inducing at least some uneasiness in people. We are defenseless against stupidity. Nothing can be done to oppose it, neither with protests nor with violence. Reasons cannot prevail.
In contrast to evil, the stupid person is completely satisfied with himself. When irritated, he becomes dangerous and may even go on the attack. More caution is therefore required when dealing with the stupid than with the wicked. Never try to convince the stupid with reasons; it’s pointless and dangerous.”
Bonhoeffer, Dietrich.“Von der Dummheit”: Widerstand und Ergebung. Briefe und Aufzeichnungen aus der Haft. S. 17–20. Muenchen, Christian Kaiser Verlag, 1951.
You could even extend this to include more specific instances of “There’s no benefit to engaging with unstable people.” Read John Derbyshire’s 2012 article in Taki Magazine under ‘The Talk, the White Version,’ “There’s no benefit to engaging with unstable people. (10i) If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving.”
You need to recogonize, if you don’t already, that the social phenomenon Bonhoeffer describes is not isolated to *the other*. I see it here on these very pages everyday. One needs to be able to recognize it in order to know who they can trust and rely on and survive in the future.
I ceased listening at the 8 second mark:
all of you clowns who pushed the branch Covidian narrative while millions of us got fired by US Gov diktat that you supported, you got yours.
He is about to break into tears.
Sociopathic Narcissist.
I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland 18 miles north of Communist DC and I am surrounded by Communist Dem Nut Jobs like Pelley and Garcia Navarro. It’s difficult to avoid confrontation so I don’t have many real friends.
“Behind that self is a deeply disturbed loathing;” he really is loathsome.
Swift kick in the ass. Or. Bitchslap the boy
Excellent advice. Sometimes I chastise myself for withdrawing from the general public, and being on alert when I must go amongst them. It seems that a large portion, though in the minority, of our population has come under a demonic influence. Self-absorbed, no empathy within them, no godly promptings, just fully engulfed, self-righteously so, in their own sickness, unable to divine right from wrong, which makes them dangerous.
I came to know such a person up close and personal. I was so innocent then. That person nearly destroyed my life, but the Lord opened a window, and with the help of my family members, I was dragged out of that situation before he killed me. Once you get far away from such people, you can see things clearly. Now, thankfully, I can recognize the signs of a narcissistic psycopath from a distance.
It’s really important to teach the children how to assess another person so that they don’t end up taken in by groups of them. We see this in the Antifa groups and other paid protestors. Lazy, insolent, angry, young people with no hope. They become murderers, slanderers, gossipers, and wholly untrustworthy.
Good riddance.
Let’s be real about this. Actors and media personalities like this need to go back to the bottom strata of society like they once were. We live in an upside down society where these entertainers are held in high esteem. There was a time in history where society had the sense to view actors as little higher than prostitutes, and this pontificating court jester posing as a truth-teller demonstrates why.
Tissue please!
I feel I’ve stepped in something.
Best comment ever!
This piece of debris has spewed his verbal crap for way too many years, and he is the perfect example that there is no help or cure for extreme liberalism. Pelley presents himself as a true savior thinking he made the world a better place by sharing his opinions not facts, also his superiority is far above and beyond anything us common folks could ever understand.
He will be judged!
You never know what people say to each other behind each others’ backs.
And Pelley looked like he was about to cry = for himself. I really would like to read what a psychologist/ psychiatrist thinks about this interview.
He is not a “journalist”. He is a propagandist.
I agree with your assessment. I would only add one thing. This, what we see and hear, isn’t them. It is a contrived persona, an act intended to coerce the sheep. It is propaganda, mind control, dog whistle attempt to pull the useful idiots into their camp and convince them to commit acts of violence and insurrection.
SD,
I concur and essentially stated the same thing here yesterday on page 1:
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2026/06/07/president-trump-walks-out-of-combative-nbc-interview-with-kirsten-welker/comment-page-1/#comments
I am convinced that many still do not realize the depth and scope and magnitude of the effects of societal breakdown by decades of the states propaganda program and how it will manifest itself once unleashed by the IC/The Party when they’re ready.
This country is filled with mentally-ill individuals that cannot be reasoned with, and they’re not all *Lefty’s*. This is firstly and mostly due to being told what to think instead of being taught how to think. Mental-illness is going to be the #1 problem in America in the future, mark my words, and *we’re* not ready for it.
A lot more could be said, but I have to keep this brief. One of *conservatives* biggest problems is they’re not organized like the so-called Left, and they and the IC/The Party know it and have been exploiting it and will continue to and many will not even realize it until it’s too late. Better get organized is my advice.
Tick-tock.
Upper class white trash !!
I wonder if he had to stick a finger in his eye to get the tears to flow?
I would say that 90% of who I’ve encountered in academia and some in healthcare are like this. I was at a women’s group and when the subject of a Supreme Court justice nominee came up, the room changed and that was the exact moment I politely excused myself.
These types of people are never wrong and are insufferable to be around. It’s a religion to them and they are zealots. Impossible to be around. No wonder they stay in the bubble that they do. They NEED to.
It truly is frightening to think of the bullhorns they have access to and masses of people who they influence.
Is this gas bag crying, or is he trying to stifle a massive belch? A truly loathsome toad who can’t ever get enough of his own voice.
So well said Sundance and I served multiple tours in the Middle East and even though there was rain, extremely unlikely that the fox hole filled up with water. Plus, we had fighting positions, never fox holes.
It’s hard to differentiate news manipulators from DC manipulators. They flock together, congratulating each other’s self importance.
Ahh, come on…he’s just a jilted, wounded little puppy! This is Scott’s big moment in life, he is wallowing in it. The difference between a journalist who goes to a theater of war versus a military person is that he is being protected by those military people and he knows after he gets want he wants–he can leave.
Of course, if the sh*t hits the fan, our fearless journalist will p*ss his pants in fear and pray for someone to save his sorry ass as he gets a real taste of death waiting to pick it’s next victim. Or, he/she just might pick up a weapon, screaming “I have had enough of this!” and fight back to deny death as best as one can.
As democrats show us the integrity of mail in voting via their “golden blueprint” in California, as the girls (J-Lo in particular) tell us to enjoy Pride Month, as Nancy Pelosi continues to deny she set up Jan 6th and what followed, expect Hillary to come forward with her “female insights” as B. Hussein Obama shouts from his Babel 0f Truth for those still stupid to rally ’round his monument to malignant narcissism, President Trump will tell us “a deal with Iran is at hand” ad nauseam.
At least in real combat one learns rather quickly his enemy is intent on killing him…so make a decision to live or die! Scott Pelely is going on a short vacation where he can have those crying bouts in private being comforted by his memories of watching others die so he could live and tell those truths only he knows!
Scott Pelley is the kind of saint the democrats love.
I stopped when I heard Pelley say, “… it’s like when your wife has b een murdered.” WTF does he know how it feels to have your wife murdered? He just grabs words as they fly through the air and makes them fit his narrative.
Yikes…
All that I can say about this demon is Praise God that he wasn’t present in a foxhole anywhere near my son, nephew or cousin.
Media companies probably screen for these types of people because they can be very convincing! After all, TV a has become nothing more than paying someone to “entertain” you while “SELLING” you an agenda, point-of-view, funny time, retail products, coming events, etc. Even the News has been worked over for agendas, AI, sponsor approval and talent before you ever see it; 30 times a day for 6 months! And we pay for that entertainment. Amazing how all that sounds exactly like Politics!
We pay for media, politics, governments and all retail, but we sure have nothing to do with what it really is! We’re being used!
He disowns a particular description: “You become a journalist because you love the 1st Amendment. You become a journalist because you love the country.” Interesting.
FYI Mr Pelley – Presidents with no military service include
John Adams
Martin Van Buren
Grover Cleveland
William Howard Taft
Woodrow Wilson
Warren G. Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Bill Clinton
Barack Obama
Joe Biden
Donald Trump
