I always show my ID, and ask for a paper ballot, in my deep blue state. Even though there are prominent signs “no IDs required” (so reassuring for the the illegals, and the other paid “voters”), and even though I’m told, time and again, that it’s “not necessary”.
My reply, as always: “Well it should be.”
And I always get my choice of booths for my paper ballot, while the sheeple shuffle in line for a machine, nary a bleat to be heard.

You show ID, pick up a paper ballot, insert the ballot in a reader, vote, then the reader spits out the finished paper ballot. You then put that finished ballot in a secure, locked container in case there are any problems. A back-up system if you will. No complaints

In Bandera County I present my drivers license, they print a ticket with a unique number, and offer me my choice of multiple blank Serial Numbered ballots.
I enter the unique number in the machine, place my ballot on the feeder, make my selections, proofread the screen, select Print.
Once printed, I proofread the printed ballot, take it to another machine, lay it in the feeder, push a button, the feeder draws it in, then displays a confirmation message on the screen.
I still do Not like the idea of a computer being involved.
In both of the elections involving Abraham Lincoln (1800s), the election results were available sometime after midnight, like 3:00 to 5:00 Eastern time. Now, thanks to the aid of computers, we have election results in a week or two.

Mike – I respect your opinion (and sentiments) but I can’t help but wonder if we don’t need to put up candidates that have the best chance of beating the Dems, even if they aren’t as ideologically aligned as we would like.
I think Michelle Tafoya, RINOish as she is, has a much better change of winning the US Senate race (vs. Peggy Flanagan or Angie Craig) then any of the others. The media will go after Royce’ struggles with mental health with no letup. Similarly, I think Lisa ? Demuth, the Repub MN House Speaker, is a much better candidate for Governor. That said it will be very hard for anyone to beat Amy Klobachar (she is such a fraud, but many people in MN believe her fraud lies and think she’s “nice Amy”). If we could win the US Senate, some of the other non-governor state races and ensure the Dems don’t win both state houses then that would be the best showing Repubs have had in MN in a very, very long time.
Like you, that’s not what I want to see happen but I’ve been disappointed so many times…..if we can just get things headed in the right direction it would be huge (and if the US economy is cooking in 2028 then maybe we can make further strides).

It’s hard to imagine the Senate stonewalling more than they have. Thune knows he could have saved Cornyn if he’d passed the Save America Act. It is really that simple. And it reveals the motives of the Senate (as if it wasn’t already fully known). Not sure what Trump’s plan is to get anything through the Senate now but pretty sure that he has one. It was inevitable that this confrontation happen. It’s part of the Big Ugly.
It should have revealed that ChiCom Mitch installed himself as the Chairman of the Rules Committee.

Early voting only started yesterday, and the diehard Paxton voters were the ones at the polls early. This only solidifies his position. On the plus side, we have inclimate weather forecasted for the next several days which should mean that Paxton voters will be showing up where the ‘traditional RINO’ voters will be at home.
