There are five or six major hotel venues in DC that can host a served dinner that size.
The Hilton is one of them. It’s huge.
It is also within fifteen blocks of the White House, so it is very convenient.

This makes the case for the WH ballroom, tbh. Like I wrote, there are only so many ballrooms in DC that are big enough to host this. The Hilton, the Ritz Carlton, the one up towards the zoo off of Rock Creek whose name I can’t remember right now, that’s really about it for regular venues for a served dinner for hundreds of guests.

The Secret Service screwed up YET AGAIN and FAILED to do their homework and secure the area. How long do we have to put up with this BS? It makes me really mad that they are even thinking of continuing this event and putting President Trump at risk. They have no idea if there are insiders in the room and it is a hostile audience to begin with at best. There’s no way they have time to see if there are accomplices in the room or check the communications from the perp before he went into action. Check the Secret Service staff for starters. RKFJr says it was a sub who fired the shot that killed his father from right behind him at point blank range.
The look on Bobby Kennedy Jr’s face as he and his wife were rushed from the room was haunting, IMHO. He, more than anyone else in that room, knows how quickly everything can all go wrong!

That is a very large hotel with multiple entrances. You can’t just close them all off for the night.
That ballroom is down a level or two from the main hotel entrance.
My recollection is you have to go into the main hotel lobby, go about fifty yards, and then go down something like two flights of stairs and down another corridor to get there.
Secret Service would have secured the lower entrances to the ballroom level and put up a security barrier at those stairs so invited guests could present their tickets, past any coat check. The guests would have been wanded, and their names (and probably faces) checked against the pre-cleared list.
There would have been Secret Service staking out the lobby, and hotel guests would have been coming through there as normal.
It sounds like the guy walked in the front lobby door and went to the first security barrier and started shooting.
Probably a case of severe TDS, because that’s just stupid.
