Today is Passover. A day that families are gathering and celebrating the story of Exodus, from slavery to liberty.
A long meal. We read the Haggadah that is a book of all the prayers and songs and steps of this special evening.

One of the songs that we will sing and has been a part of it for thousands of years is literally saying that “Every generation they come on us to destroy (annihilate) us and God saves us”.

This is very applicable now. YouTube is full of versions. The versions are shorter than the actual song as written. So you may not hear the “every generation” part.

I choose here three versions: One is a mother and daughter singing it in three languages – Hebrew, English and Parisian.

American ragtime composer (The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag), dies at 48

Biography: Scott Joplin is known as the “King of Ragtime”, famous for such compositions like “The Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer”.

A travelling musician, Joplin was at the Chicago World Fair in 1893, where Ragtime became a national craze. He went on to publish his own Ragtime compositions before starting his own Opera Company and composing operas, self-publishing his ” Treemonisha” opera in 1911.

Joplin’s music was largely forgotten after his death in 1917 but rediscovered in the 1960s and 1970s. The film “The Sting” (1973) featured music inspired by Scott Joplin and Marvin Hamlisch won an Academy Award for his soundtrack. His version of the “The Entertainer” then became a top ten hit.

COMMENTARY FOR 1 JOHN 3:20

The apostle admires the love of God in making believers his children. (1,2) The purifying influence of the hope of seeing Christ, and the danger of pretending to this, and living in sin. (3-10) Love to the brethren is the character of real Christians. (11-15) That love described by its actings. (16-21) The advantage of faith, love, and obedience. (22-24)

16-21 Here is the condescension, the miracle, the mystery of Divine love, that God would redeem the church with his own blood. Surely we should love those whom God has loved, and so loved. The Holy Spirit, grieved at selfishness, will leave the selfish heart without comfort, and full of darkness and terror. By what can it be known that a man has a true sense of the love of Christ for perishing sinners, or that the love of God has been planted in his heart by the Holy Spirit, if the love of the world and its good overcomes the feelings of compassion to a perishing brother? Every instance of this selfishness must weaken the evidences of a man’s conversion; when habitual and allowed, it must decide against him. If conscience condemn us in known sin, or the neglect of known duty, God does so too. Let conscience therefore be well-informed, be heard, and diligently attended to.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

SPC is specifically calling out the potential for fast-moving, long-track, strong tornadoes tomorrow across eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. Storm motions over 50 mph mean very little warning time. This is the day to take seriously.

I have great news my friends, so I left the church yesterday with a heavy heart and such a bitter taste in my mouth that it was hard for me to get a grasp on things. I spent the rest of the afternoon and a good part of the evening sitting in the bus station with a hand made sign trying to sell my Nautica winter coat that I knew I would need in Mexico city and no longer needed here in Tampico or would need in Texas. At about 10 o’clock I gave up and since I hadn’t eaten all day I decided to get some food in me enjoy a beer then find somewhere to bed down for the night. I remembered passing a small lot that had a huge pile of dirt in the middle of it in-between two other buildings when I was walking to the church witch was about halfway between the church and the bus station. I went back, looked at the area again and thought it would be a good place to sleep on the far side out of site from the street. Once I was settled down and lay there looking up at the stars I decided that the next day I would go back to the church and try to talk to the padre one more time. I try to be understanding in most situations and was willing to give the man one more chance to be a human being.

The next morning I was up at the crack of dawn and after getting myself a cup of coffee I headed to the church again. I sat there waiting for the padre to arrive with no expectations but thinking of what to say to try and get this man to take the time to listen to me. I sat outside the gates waiting to see who showed up and running my bullet points in my head. Soon I heard keys and the chain being removed from the gates and when I looked sure enough it was the padre I had spoken to the day before.

As I stood up and said good morning father in Spanish he looked at me recognized me immediately and said good morning extending his hand and asking if everything was good. “No padre, nada es bein” in Spanish not making any movement to shake his hand. “What you did for me yesterday was of absolutely no help” I said switching to English. ” You giving a me little money did nothing for me but put me back on the street and gave me food for two or three days”. “If you would have been able to help me with just 500 more pesos I would be at the border right now”. ” Do you understand what I am saying to you?” I asked. ” No” he said “only a little” he says in Spanish. “I came back here this morning to see if you have the time to sit with me and actually discuss what would help me best”, to witch he informed me that he really didn’t have the time right now. “Well I have all the time in the world and I will be waiting here for you all day till you can find the time, just 15 minutes to sit with me and discuss how to solve my problem together “. To witch he replied with there is another padre who will be here and maybe he could help me better in Spanish “Fine, I will be waiting here patiently”.

About an hour later another padre approached me and says hello in English asking if I was doing ok, “no, not really, are you going to be able to take the time and listen to what I have to say”? To make a long story short he basically tells me that they are unable to give me anymore money and that maybe the best thing I could do was contact my embassy and ask them for help. I laughed and told him that there is no embassy here in Tampico and it took me 5 days to walk/ hitchhike from Mexico city where there was one. He then suggested that I try the main church here in Tampico, that they would be able to help me. I asked how far of a walk it was and that my feet where killing me, he said about an hour away and then tells me he has to prepare for mass. As I walked back to my bag in the shade, wondering what I was to do next he returns and tells me that I can get a ride from one of the parishioners after mass if I would like and of course I said “yes, that would be fine”. As I sat outside I heard the beginning of the mass and decided that I would attend, it had been awhile since I had been to worship. After the mass I was introduced to a man named Victor and we got in his truck and he drove me across town to the office of the main church.

I entered the office and when asked by the woman at the reception desk what I wanted I told her I needed help and that I was sent there by a padre from another church in the city. This was all done in Spanish of course and I even had to pull out my tablet to try and explain my problem. She gets on her phone and next thing I know I am speaking to a lawyer for the church that spoke English and being informed that they could not help me financially, he wouldn’t even come down and talk to me in person even though I was having problems understanding him over the phone. Eventually she leaves and comes back with a man who’s name was Alberto who once again tried to tell me that they couldn’t help me and then went through the list of organizations who “might” be able to help me. The US embassy, no there is not one here. DIF, which is for Mexicans not Americans. He even suggested immigration, witch made me laugh I told him that they would detain me, deport me and that I was try to self- deport. I told him I had things that I could sell, my coat and Bills knife but that I really didn’t want to sell the knife and no one had the 500 pesos I was asking for the coat. Eventually he began to realize that I wasn’t going to let him pass me off to someone else, that I didn’t trust any of the organizations that he was talking about and when I told him that if he really wanted to help me he would let me stay there till my tablet was fully charged and I would continue north like I had been.

I will give Alberto a lot of credit he was was working the problem the best he could, we was using my tablet to translate and the battery was down to 10% when he told me I could stay to charge my tablet and to excuse him for a moment and left the reception area through a door. He was gone about 15 minutes and upon returning tells me that he was taking up a collection from all the employees there and that I would soon have what I needed and to relax and be patient. I was floored, asking if he was being serious and when he said yes, I began to cry. Within about an half a hour he comes out hands me 850 pesos and tells me to travel in peace, he reaches out to me to shake my hand and I step in and hugged him and thanked him.

I stayed long enough till my battery was up to 30%, collected my things, thanked the receptionist and walked out the door back to the bus station witch was an hour away. I now have a bus ticket for Reynosa in my possession, it leaves tonight at 11:05 PM and seven hours after that I will be in Reynosa.

Thank you all who have sent me your prayers, kind words and encouragement. I will soon be back in the United States of America to restart my life and I believe that between you and the grace of God it would not have been possible. 🖖🏻DG

The Europeans on X are getting crazy! It’s hilarious some of the BS they say. My response to one who thinks Europe is a powerhouse both financially and militarily.

“EU is a financial power, probably the biggest .. no military power? Ukraine and The Netherlands are the biggest mass drone producers in the world. We have nukes, sattelites and, and that is where we differ from the US, a healthy brain.”

My response:

Nukes is all the UK has. Only France among you maintains a half decent military and is the only other power with nuclear capability.

Your financial power is split among the various nations and the US STILL has a greater GDP than all combined.

Your tech industry is practically nonexistent relying on the US and China.

The US Navy is much larger and more capable than all of the EU nations combined. The US Air Force is much larger and far more capable than all the other NATO Nations Air Forces combined. In short NATO has very little capability to project it’s limited military power.

And how come the US pays 62 to 68% of the total NATO budget? And why, if your in such great condition, are you continually begging the US to fund the war in Ukraine? Why did the US have to lead the war against Serbia?

Why did I and millions of other Americans spend part of our time in the military in Europe and most of our time training for a possible war in Europe even 30 years after WW II ended if NATO without the US is so capable?

Twice in the last 110 years the US has spent blood and treasure fighting in wars in Europe because you Europeans were incapable of handling your own affairs. Neither of those times was the US culpable for any of it! And yet, here you are not only lecturing us on how to handle threats to world peace but actively hampering our efforts to prevent YOU from coming under a nuclear threat from total wackos who would nuc you in a heart beat if you tried to confront them after they had the nucs?

Pretty good advice? Still have NOT incorporated them all (NOT a “morning person”)!

Praise Your holy name Heavenly Father, for granting yet another day in my life and for being with me every step of the way. Thank You for the many blessings that You have provided and the love and fellowship that I have with the friends and family that in Your grace You have placed in my life.
 
My heart is so thankful for all the many blessings that I enjoy day by day, and today I am once again reminded that Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
 
Thank You, that I have been brought into Your family and have been made a child of God and a citizen of heaven. Words cannot express my love and devotion to You Lord
 
I pray that You would watch over me as I rest tonight, and that You would give me a restful night’s sleep so that I may wake up in the morning refreshed in body and spirit and ready to do Your will. Guard all those that I love and may we all grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in the days that lie ahead. This I ask in His precious name,

Prayer Of Reflection On The Past Day

Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.

Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray. 

Thank You, that You are a God who forgives our transgressions when we are willing to confess them to You, knowing that such cleansing before You immediately draws us back into sweet fellowship with Yourself. 

Give me a good night’s rest I pray, and may I rest quietly in Your loving arms in the knowledge that in Christ, I am eternally secure, due to Your amazing grace, for which I praise You. In Jesus’ name,

Evening Prayer For Forgiveness

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
 
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
 
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
 
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,
