Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.
1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress.
2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely.
3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation.
4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election.
5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal.
Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

Iran knew this day was coming. While its conventional forces have been decimated, there are still IRGC forces out there acting independent of a central command. They have dug in. They have access to cached weapons. Iran is a large country. Until the Regime totally capitulates or is completely exterminated, there is no end. They will fight to the last man, the last drone. Militarily, Iran being the objective, you cannot declare victory until you have taken control of the objective, physical control. This can be done with American military (troops) or the people of Iran taking back their country and government. Hopefully, the latter will be the case.

At 3 AM on Friday, March 27th, in a near-empty chamber, you passed a bill by voice vote that excludes all funding for ICE and CBP.
Let me repeat that: voice vote. No roll call. No record of who was there. No accountability. Just you, Barrasso, and a handful of senators shuffling paper in the dead of night while America slept.
You could have demanded a recorded vote. You chose not to.
You could have held the line for five more days until the House returned. You chose not to.

3. You punted to reconciliation. “Good possibility,” you said. Not “we will.” Not “guaranteed.” Just maybe. Meanwhile, ICE operates on fumes from last year’s bill with no certainty of future funding.
The precedent you set:

“When Majority Leader Thune allowed a compromise bill to pass on the Senate floor at 3 AM last night, he fundamentally altered the legal landscape for the President’s emergency declaration and his Executive Order to pay the TSA.
The President’s Executive Order is now in grave jeopardy.
Previously, the White House could argue that a procedural blockade (the Senate filibuster) was the sole obstacle to funding, creating an “artificial” crisis.
However, by moving a bill through the Senate, Thune has shifted the crisis from a procedural failure to a legislative disagreement between the House and Senate.
The Antideficiency Act (ADA) Trap:
The Senate’s action now forces this shutdown to qualify as a legitimate funding lapse under the Antideficiency Act.
• Before the vote:
The funding gap was a “man-made” emergency caused by Senate rules, which offered the President a narrow opening to claim executive necessity.
• After the vote:
It is now a standard bicameral dispute.
Under the ADA, the President generally lacks the authority to override a lack of Congressional appropriations resulting from a policy standoff between two chambers.
The Real Motivation
Majority Leader Thune knowingly and deliberately protected Minority Leader Schumer’s ability to use the filibuster as a weapon against federal funding.

In this view, Congress as a whole has not reached a formal disagreement.
Rather, a single member has prevented the legislative body from acting at all, effectively misusing the ADA to create a manufactured funding crisis and an emergency that forces federal workers to work unpaid until that senator relents on their filibuster.” …….
