The Son of Man was filled with the Holy Spirit. Because of what Jesus did for us as Son of Man, Spirit-filled, so can we become sons of man, filled with the Holy Spirit, for grace is His empowering presence. He has given us His Word. He has given us His Spirit.
Speaking of Jesus quoting scriptures, as presented in the Gospels, sometimes they align with the words of the Septuagint, and sometimes with the Hebrew found in the Masoretic Text.
Jesus had some interaction with Greek, using the Greek word for actor to create the word for what we now call a hypocrite. But it is thought Aramaic was his first language but that he was also fluent in Hebrew.
And the people of Judah still had issues with Greeks, having successfully rebelled from abusive Greek control.
About 5% of the Dead Sea Scrolls, are Greek, similar to what we have as the Septuagint. And there are also scrolls in Hebrew similar to what we now have as the Septuagint. But by far the majority are Hebrew, very similar to the Masoretic texts.
So local people at the time did have multiple versions of the Scriptures that Jesus quoted. And Jesus quoted both versions but not exactly.
Remember, in Ezra and Nehemiah, we find Ezra imposing his version of the scripture on the Jews returned from captivity, using authority granted by Persian kings. Some time after that Alexander conquered the Persian Empire and after Alexander died, Alexander’s empire was split amongst his Generals. (Whatever scriptures the priests used before Ezra, marriage to Samaritans was allowed and Ezra forced those marriages to be ended or cast those priests out of the priesthood because his version didn’t allow marriages like Moses’ marriage.)
The Ptolemies took Egypt, Built Alexandria, Built a library, And had the Hebrew scriptures translated into Greek. Cleopatra was the last of the Ptolemies. Those Greek translations are called the Septuagint. There were already Greek speaking people following Jewish scripture a couple centuries prior to Paul. Having them gave a massive boost to spreading Christianity. And with the New Testament being written in Greek, it would have been easy to source Jesus’ quotes with these Greek scriptures. But the oldest intact version is from later when Christians were putting together their scriptures, forming a Canon, and putting together the Bible.
So we really don’t know what the original words of the scriptures were. We have multiple Hebrew versions derived from Ezra’s post captivity version. But we don’t even have Ezra’s version. We are clueless about exactly what Moses wrote. And the same for most of the other Old Testament prophets and writings. But we do have some idea of what existed at Christ’s time.
The Masoretic text wasn’t set in stone until long after the Christian Bible. Maybe about 1000 AD. But the tradition of careful copying has left it almost the same as most of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is not clear how those versions won out over the other versions in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Having the scriptures be flexible and varying until long after Christ, even long after the New Testament was written, it is no wonder that Christ’s quotes aren’t exact copies of either set in stone later version.
It is very interesting that both versions were quoted. That both were seen as scripture at that time.
I’d be wary about taking it the other way around. Claiming Christ spoke the true original words of God is setting one’s self up for failure and disappointment. The words and knowledge of Science change more often than do the Words of God.
Maybe some day we will find a copy of the original collection of Jesus’ words that we think the Gospel writers used, not the Gnostic collection put together near the end of the second century called the Gospel of Thomas. (Of which we have a fourth century copy.)
And to find versions of what existed in David’s time, or even of what existed right before captivity would be miraculous.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to trace the Scriptures over time? Even more wonderful than tracing the development of all the English versions.
Israel Update
I started with a general strategic post and then a lot was going on so I summarized the events after the strategic post. Don’t miss the end part with the “Highlighted News”.
What is happening?
I will take an external look. If you followed my updates, I said even before it all began that the Iranian military would be vastly destroyed in a relatively short time. No WW3, no direct involvement by Russia or China. Iran has no real means to defend against the vast power of the United States, not to mention the combined power of the United States and Israel.
In this war, we also decided to create conditions for the Iranian people to rebel. So we are destroying police and Basij (internal crowd-control) infrastructure and anything connected to the IRGC.
While I could go on listing targets that were destroyed or are being destroyed, the main point is that there is a long bank of targets, and by now there is likely a second list as well. A great deal of intelligence work goes into creating these lists. It appears that Israel worked on this for decades, and the US as well.
What is NOT happening?
Iran’s energy sector is not being attacked. Apparently the US asked that it be left alone for now. I can assume the reasons are:
~Wanting to keep the economy functioning for a potential new regime.
~Keeping China calm. China continues to receive Iranian oil, including now.
~Not wanting to punish the Iranian population.
Oil is the key income source of Iran. In fact, rising oil prices are good for the Iranian economy, and they have actually increased oil exports so far.
However, if you seriously want a regime change, you must face the fact that Iran has roughly a million people combined in its armed, security, and military establishments. In times like these, when the economy is struggling and people cannot work in key areas, it becomes beneficial to be on the payroll of the military or defense establishment.
To shut off their salaries and motivate them to quit, the money sources must be attacked — either the banks or the oil sector. So far, I have only heard about one IRGC-related bank being attacked, but it is a key one that pays the IRGC so I am not sure how serious this is.
If Israel and the US conclude that regime change is unlikely, they may decide to attack the oil industry. Trump may also be holding this as a bargaining chip against Iran’s attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz and harm the world economy and oil prices even further. As of today, Iran has attacked a few ships and appears to be ignoring the warnings.
There is also a theoretical option of a ground force occupying limited oil-production areas. That would be a high-risk operation and only possible if Iran can no longer attack the force with drones or missiles.
What is Iran’s strategy?
~Hurt the world economy by attacking Gulf states and disturbing shipping in the region, creating oil-price hikes and pressure on Trump.
~Linger and survive. Their idea is that if they survive, they win. A longer war creates internal pressure in the US. We can also see that they are slowing their missile attacks on Israel, trying not to exhaust their missile stockpile.
What is NOT known?
What is happening with the 1,000 lb of enriched uranium?
There are a few theories, but I still consider it unknown. I only hope that our intelligence agencies know.
One main idea is that it was buried at the Natanz nuclear site. I did see evidence that they were digging there. I cannot tell whether the material is in solid form, which is easier to move and hide, or in gas form, which is more complicated. The uranium is a key factor in the war because it is a central objective.
There is also talk about a possible Special Forces raid to secure it. That would be a high-risk operation.
But this entire subject is not public knowledge.
What will happen now?
No one knows. As we say, “Since the last prophet, prophecy is for fools.”
Much depends on Trump and on the nuclear materials.
But I have seen many miracles in the last two years and I wouldn’t be surprised to see things happening beyond the usual predictions.
What is likely:
~Israel will likely try to eliminate the new Supreme Leader and hope someone more sensible emerges.
~Israel will target additional radical leaders within the IRGC.
~Missile and drone production and stockpiles will be heavily damaged and set back for years.
~An effort to secure the uranium through force or negotiations.
~Calls for the Iranian people to rise up, along with efforts to protect them with drones, covert operatives, and possibly some effort to arm them ahead of time.
~The rest remains open…. But, I don’t see Trump get bullied to give up – not his DNA.
Highlighted News:
~Hezbollah announced an operation against Israel with a name, etc. then launched some 100 rockets simultaneously into Israel and drones and Iran was coordinated with a few missiles. Then they kept going for some five hours of more rockets and drones and Iran announced a coordinated operation.
By a lot of interceptions and luck and with God’s help no one was badly injured only a couple of minor injuries in an Arab town.
Following it the IDF gave evacuation orders and attacked heavily in Beirut. There is a serous talk at our leadership if we want to go all in and call in reserves and take it all the way to the Litany River inside Lebanon and secure a buffer zone and destroy the Shia villages by our border who are basically Hezbollah bases. There is a growing frustration in Israel about all those “fake treatments” of Hezbollah, endless evacuation orders and taking down buildings as reactions.
The Government is responsible to the safety of its citizens who live close to Lebanon. Not to mention them now attacking all the way to Haifa, ie. all of north Israel.
~This one is a bit premature to let you know but I can’t resist the temptation.
There were drone attacks on Basij checkpoints in Teheran and Iranian TV reported some 10 killed of security forces and Basij at multiple locations. Now, on Social media some characterize it as a beeper operation magnitude attack with hundreds killed, some incredible Mossad operation. But this is not confirmed. I guess we will know in a day or two. For now the opposition is excited and I am posting a video that they issued. There is also a video of one attack but I deleted it after I suspected it was not authentic.

The USAF keeps constant book on the potential targets in any country deemed to be a potential enemy of the US. The target lists are updated constantly based on our intel assessments and remote imagery from various platforms. The target folders with imagery are then used by other services as needed. We in Special Forces used those target folders while planning our missions in the event WWIII had happened.
It is a constant on going process in peacetime.
Thanks. Then add to it Mossad and Israeli Intel activities that knew that the day will come and took it very seriously. A real multiplier.
The best of both worlds. US remote sensing and Mossad Human intelligence. Our forces were probably better prepared with target information that for any other major engagement of our lifetimes.
I would not be surprised if that data base now includes notes on what has been determined would be the best ordinance to use against each specific target.

My son had a Bassett hound when grandsons were growing up. They are very tolerant of little kids. Their bark makes me laugh out loud.
Such a noise they make with their howling though. Our across the street neighbours, both educated, have two dogs, one Bassett, no discipline….the dogs that is, not their parents, though they are quite unmindful that they aren’t the only people who live on our street.
Early in the morning or laaaaate at night, their dogs run to their gate and let loose for what seems like an eternity. No intervention from either owner. Right on the corner of No Peace, No Tranquility.
But I have heard the same of their breed…gentle and tolerant of children. Traits beyond price 💕😌

She had a high, squeekie voice and Pug Tristan adored her. She often used him as an example in class and he would do anything for her.
She saved many misunderstood Dobies.

Taking a break from grading English papers (In-text citations and Work cited), which the students need for their essays. Pretty detailed so I needed to stop and eat lunch, and give my brain and eyes a rest.
Cleo is now climbing on my lap just about every time I sit down, or she will just rub and rub and rub me with her motor going! Did catch her the other night sleeping near me. Maizie and Pumpkin sleep with me regularly. Percy is the one that will give you attention on her terms only. Funny though, when I am on the computer she seems to want to sleep in my lap then and only then. Beau sleeps with me occasionally, but not daily as he did before the cats arrived.
Great Cursday stuff today, as always, the highlight of my week. Thank you for Awwws and laughs and a few memories with tears as well.

I do believe I can hear her now….a sweet rescue letting you know how grateful she is. One of those small pleasures which actually are much larger than they may seem to those who don’t love cats as we do.
Sounds as if her reconnaissance offspring, Pumpkin and Maizie, have shown her all is well on your bed. Maybe Percy will eventually understand, too. But let’s be honest….

Sept is the end of the Federal fiscal year. Heck even when I was an SF soldier at Bad Tolz we went down to the range and spent nearly a week blasting .45 Cal ACP rounds down range to get rid of the surplus. We got good training out of it and they made sure they did not get cut back on the amount issued the next year. All of these morons going on about the Lobster and Steak know the deal.
Besides, troops deserve a great meal every once in a while. I think the dems are actually hurting themselves more than helping themselves with this crap.
Just shows how desperate they are to get the most effective Sec. Def/War we’ve had in long time.
Most don’t know about BAS and having to pay for that meal at the dining hall unless deployed.
As a Detachment Chief having to oversee the bills paid for the small unit……you are “highly encouraged” by your chain of command and higher headquarters to “use it or lose it for next year.” Justifying new spending can be incredibly difficult but reallocating existing funds where you have slight excesses is simple to do. The mission always comes first.

My husband and I are always lamenting today’s reality that we almost never see kiddos playing outside: riding bicycles, playing catch or tag or kickball. So sad – I have such fantastic memories. I don’t really think video games will be so memorable.
I miss Trick or Treaters. My first husband and I lived in a neighborhood of young families and we dressed up and had a blast. I live in a small ‘hood now and all the kids grew up and are gone.
I make holiday gift bags for the grandkids next door. Not the same.

The Jewish converts cautioned against judging, and Gentile believers against despising one the other. (1-13) And the Gentiles exhorted to take heed of giving offence in their use of indifferent things. (14-23)
7-13 Though some are weak, and others are strong, yet all must agree not to live to themselves. No one who has given up his name to Christ, is allowedly a self-seeker; that is against true Christianity. The business of our lives is not to please ourselves, but to please God. That is true Christianity, which makes Christ all in all. Though Christians are of different strength, capacities, and practices in lesser things, yet they are all the Lord’s; all are looking and serving, and approving themselves to Christ. He is Lord of those that are living, to rule them; of those that are dead, to revive them, and raise them up. Christians should not judge or despise one another, because both the one and the other must shortly give an account. A believing regard to the judgment of the great day, would silence rash judgings. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
