Years ago, my brother was visiting us and we had him sit on the passenger side of the old pickup’s bench seat. That was intentional, so he could handle the gates. I sat in the middle in charge of the radio!
Well, we came up to a gate that needed opening and he hopped out: only to be confronted by a huge white brahma bull. Never seen him run that fast before nor after. 😁
Had to wait 20 minutes or so to go back and close that thing, but it sure made an impression on my city boy bro! 😃 😀 😄
Good afternoon Soaz. Reminds me, there was a brahma steer down the hill from us on the Mogollon Rim. He always hung around the bank of mail boxes for the little community. There was a large sign on the mail boxes that said:
Hi my name is (can not remember his name now) but it suited him at the time, and I am friendly and gentle. I just want an apple.
He really was not violent at all. I think he must have been hand raised since a calf and of course neutered very young. He was definitely someone’s pet. Never did find out who his owner was, but he never left the small community and never went wandering or onto the road.

Good morning, dear Pat. So you’re double fortifying? Can’t think of a better combination. It is true I’ve found…in all those British films when calm is needed but there seems to be none, a cup of tea really is therapeutic. Something I would have never believed and even considered ridiculous before I moved there. Oh doubtful me. Now it is one of life’s small but very enjoyable pleasures as well.
I thought of you and Blue when I saw the weather outlook yesterday, hoping that the potential of damaging winds would skip you. Since you’ve not mentioned anything concerning this, I am pleased you’ve made it through 😘👍🏻
I see a few limbs down in the woods north of the house. Blue has a large loafing shed to shelter in. When the weather is bad, I feed him in there. Granted, I have to walk a little in the pasture to get there, so am very cautious and try to wait until the storm subsides somewhat before venturing out.
Last Spring after quite a bit of rain at once, it finally had stopped, so I went out to feed him. My rubber boot got stuck in the muck and I went down into the mud with my knees stuck.
Blue was following me at a respectful distance, walked up beside me, looked down, sniffed my face as if to ask, “What are you doing down there?” I put my arms around his very sturdy, studly, neck and he promptly pulled me up! I am proud to say I did not lose one pellet of his feed, as the bucket stayed upright, but my pride was hurt and I was glad no one saw me go down. Did not hurt myself, as I sank into waterlogged grass and mud.
I am now a bit more careful when I traipse out to feed him after it has rained a bunch.
I would say you need a bigger box, Corny. But it seems they approve of this one 😂👍🏻

We have 4 indoor boxes and one in the outdoor kitty enclosure. We switched to a pellet type litter which really cuts way down on the mess (and smell!), but they still manage to dump them on the floor and – hoo boy! Stepping on those hard pellets with barefeet is an experience! If anyone is interested, it is available at Chewys and a bag really lasts a long time. Just a thought. 😺 🐱 😸

The initial cost is higher but they last a very long time – and really reduce the odor. Also. You can buy a box that has a place for a pad that collects the urine and change as needed. We use that system. That is definitely more expensive, but again cuts out odor and there are no wet clumps of clay. And, it is really quite convenient to use.

Hi Soaz. I buy a litter here at a local Feed store. It is a multi-cat formula, unscented, dust free that blocks ammonia, sodium bentonite clay that comes from Wyoming and/or Colorado. It is soft textured and fine grain. It absorbs and clumps rapidly and solidly. It lasts quite awhile and it is not ridiculously priced. Anyone interested; it is called Odorlock, by Intersand America.
I’ll look into the pellet available at Chewy, and check out the box with the pad. Thanks

Being a Texas gal, I didn’t appreciate radiators until I crossed the pond, where I became most appreciative. Our cats were warm enough in our coal heated home. We didn’t have any contraptions like this; but had we, I probably would have invested in a couple for the bedrooms which were not in use and far away from our fireplaces where they tended to gather.

I did get the last kitten to animal control, yesterday. She and her mama will be spayed and have a cozy barn home in their future. The calico will be spayed, vaxed, micro-chipped and returned to me at no charge to me!
The wretched spca declined to help me at the last minute as I could not guarantee the cats could be “kissed on the lips”. Their exact words to me in a letter!
I made a raging call to my county commissioner and two days later received a call from our county attorney, who also got an ear full. Ten minutes later I got a call from our brand new Animal Control Director, Crystal Beatty, who agreed to help me. This, after numerous calls to them had gone nowhere.
I grabbed Mama and the calico and fairly flew to her ofc. I knew things were looking up when Crystal came out to meet me with a tiny, blonde and white baby goat, with splints on its legs, wearing a pink harness and leash!
Crystal Beatty was an answer to months of prayers, rages and tears. She gives me hope that things at Mobile County Animal Control are getting better. These people work so hard but it takes leadership and money!
Now that Gus is better I’m going to see if I can repay them with some volunteer work.
One last comment, after I chastised the spca for encouraging the public to closely (kiss on the lips) interact with feral animals, the very next day I read of a rabies outbreak in Randolph County where a veterinarian, his staff and some poor woman were all exposed to rabies from a feral cat they had been treating for two weeks!
Y’all be careful with wild or feral animals. Rabies is considered to be 100% fatal once symptoms appear.
Good morning Truli. I am so glad you persevered until you got some responses. I get so angry with the way these “supposedly” animal welfare organizations are so, in my opinion, un-caring of these poor animals.
To be honest, I have never liked the spca and feel it is a money grubbing, no caring organization, just looking for any financial help they can put their hands on to pay their higher ups and don’t give a rats fuzzy behind about the animals. There may be some local spca branches that genuinely care, but they are far and few between.
Here we don’t seem to have a rabies problem so much with the feral cats, but the skunks are usually the critters they find with rabies, especially if they are out and about during the middle of the day. This is abnormal behavior. They are pretty much nocturnal. If I see them out during the day, they are usually acting weird.

I’ve had a couple of pet skunks. Not the brightest. If you leave the room they forget who you are!

My first cat was a calico. She was beautiful and sweet. We called her Kitty. Not imaginative but so easy to call her. My goodness I loved her; and when I remember her (often these days) I still miss her 💔 Comforting to know she “is God’s cat now as she was mine”.

(Buster was just a passerby really. Of course we fed him and he had plenty of barns to shelter in when it became cold. His one infraction was to invite himself into my kitchen through the open top half of our Dutch back door where I had the most perfect cheesecake cooling …and lick off the entire top of it. When I caught him, he didn’t bolt. Rather just sat there staring and licking his chops. A criminal caught and completely unrepentant..)

We had a cat acquired as a 9 wk old kitten, who always had 3/4 or fully dilated pupils. It wasn’t until she was around 6 mos. old that we realized she was mostly blind. But she navigated superbly and had fooled us into thinking nothing was wrong…
Sadly that little sweetheart passed away just shy of her 4th birthday, from a very sudden heart attack She never suffered for more than a few seconds…just walking along then collapsing and died within seconds. R.I.P. Emmi Lou

Reminding me that last year just sort of idle scrolling through our local Buy/Sell that we fell upon a stunning work of art…a cluster of grapes in jade which was bought by the seller on a trip to Japan. The price was ridiculously not commensurate with the work itself, all hand crafted and ethereal. We didn’t hesitate. When I pass it as I dust, I stop, pick it up, and marvel.

RCR, I visited the rose gardens in Tyler while on a Plumeria buying trip. It was amazing!
One of my favorites was a little, caramel colored floribunda called ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.
Went to the Orchid show today.
Good evening RCR. What a beautiful pink shrub rose. I may have to find me one. If I want a particular rose, I go to Tyler. They have just about every rose I look for. My favorites are the heavy scented old tea roses like Tiffany, Mr. Lincoln and Double Delight, among others too numerous to mention.

Had a sick kitty this week. After a 4 hour wait, 3 hour drive, and medication at the ER vet, Harriet is temporarily better thank goodness, but her CKD is not going to do a u-turn. So she and her brother Ozzie are both in kitty hospice at our house. Grateful they are still with us, but know the time is short. After all, they are only on loan to us. 😢

Having been there so often, I can attest how upsetting the situation is, even though we understand that’s part of the unspoken contract our hearts sign when we choose to love our animals. In addition to a great menu and wonderfully skillful wait staff (a recognized professional role in Mexico) there were several well mannered kitties living in the restaurant. They were very well-behaved.

My experience travelling on the non scenic route through Mexico so long ago in the towns and village we passed was exactly the same as yours. I was expecting Tex Mex, being at the time a naive traveller with no knowledge of any country except the USA. Oh how wrong I was!!!
Frog legs bordelaise in Mexico City? Other European based cuisine with a hint of Mexico in those backwaters we landed in on our way there? Stunning centuries old architecture with mariachis playing as we dined? And, as you note, the odd feline comfortably ensconced, well fed and cared for?
Not as I could ever imagine. A trip I wouldn’t dare attempt today. Memorable and definitely educational.

COMMENTARY FOR 2 CHRONICLES 15:7
The people make a solemn covenant with God.
– The work of complete reformation appeared so difficult, that Asa had not courage to attempt it, till assured of Divine assistance and acceptance. He and his people offered sacrifices to God; thanksgiving for the favours they had received, and supplication for further favours. Prayers and praises are now our spiritual sacrifices. The people, of their own will, covenanted to seek the Lord, each for himself, with earnestness. What is religion but seeking God, inquiring after him, applying to him upon all occasions? We make nothing of our religion, if we do not make heart-work of it; God will have all the heart, or none. Our devotedness to God our Saviour, should be avowed and shown in the most solemn and public manner. What is done in hypocrisy is a mere drudgery.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
