President Trump appears to be initiating a strategic retreat from sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. Via a message on Truth Social President Trump says he has instructed DHS Secretary Noem not to participate in “poorly run Democrat cities”:
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP – “I have instructed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, that under no circumstances are we going to participate in various poorly run Democrat Cities with regard to their Protests and/or Riots unless, and until, they ask us for help. We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked by these highly paid Lunatics, Agitators, and Insurrectionists.
Please be aware that I have instructed ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very forceful in this protection of Federal Government Property. There will be no spitting in the faces of our Officers, there will be no punching or kicking the headlights of our cars, and there will be no rock or brick throwing at our vehicles, or at our Patriot Warriors. If there is, those people will suffer an equal, or more, consequence.
In the meantime, by copy of this Statement, I am informing Local Governments, as I did in Los Angeles when they were rioting at the end of the Biden Term, that you must protect your own State and Local Property. In addition, it is your obligation to also protect our Federal Property, Buildings, Parks, and everything else. We are there to protect Federal Property, only as a back up, in that it is Local and State Responsibility to do so.
Last night in Eugene, Oregon, these criminals broke into a Federal Building, and did great damage, also scaring and harassing the hardworking employees. Local Police did nothing in order to stop it. We will not let that happen anymore!
If Local Governments are unable to handle the Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Anarchists, we will immediately go to the location where such help is requested, and take care of the situation very easily and methodically, just as we did the Los Angeles Riots one year ago, where the Police Chief said that, “We couldn’t have done it without the help of the Federal Government.” Therefore, to all complaining Local Governments, Governors, and Mayors, let us know when you are ready, and we will be there — But, before we do so, you must use the word, “PLEASE.”

I think this is a slight misread of the situation.
I agree that Wiles has a typically outsized influence, as any COS does.
But this President has demonstrated exceptional course correction capability in his second go-round, as he has kept open numerous secondary channels to the base. And he has for the most part up to now, listened to them.
He has kept multiple gates open, and Wiles can’t keep all of them.
As many here and elsewhere have alluded, his achilles remains occasional excessive loyalty to poor performers, particularly in Justice.
But I don’t think Wiles is the “Boss”, not by a long shot.

I would think it’s a good move to move ICE operations to states that are cooperating and deport as many illegals as possible this spring/summer. Let the blue states simmer in their own juices. If Trump bails on Noem or Miller I will be extremely disappointed in him. In Trump’s first term his lack of ability to identify the real snakes before appointing them was apparent. Round up all the illegals in RED states and re-deposit them in the nearest sanctuary city/state and block all egress from the sanctuary cities.

Cut off the incredible fraud sucking up US government funds (i.e., kill off the NGO channels and the constantly wasteful legit agencies). Announce that ONLY wanted criminals already illuminated or in custody by various LE agencies will be handled further by ICE (and ONLY if gladly handed over by locals). Let the world of immigrants in the USA become aware of a reasonable but firm migrant to citizen system. File to be included. Want to avoid this fair game — move ASAP to a “sanctuary” location. Charge the sanctuary states for finding and persecuting any criminal that was freed from any such justice in the city or state despite evidence.
(1) Let the immigrant world know that ONLY in sanctuary locations will there be any federal support and thus local help.
(2) Encourage any immigrant to pursue an understandable and fair path to actual citizenship. Not interested ? Give those folks 6 months to enter the new program, or pay their own way “home”.
(3) Provide proof of job seeking on a regular basis, just like citizens who draw unemployment (well — in most but lot all locations). No proof — no unemployment $$$, no other assistance except support to self-deport.
(4) Wait for the taxpaying citizens who are now pressured by their own governments to continue paying for the illegal tidal wave that will show up as those folks realize that former options have disappeared (starting with $$$$$$$$$$$$$ from the national government taxpayers).
(5) To those sanctuary/democrat/ultralib/ folks — you are facing an eruption from expansion of the “persecuted” if you lose the ability to buy them off.
I can guarantee that in my part of CA (yes, still here) and I suspect in all the “sanctuaries” elsewhere, residents will wake up to the potential elimination of their own way of life, as millions of additional “migrants” look for expected shelter from justice, hunger and life goods in the sanctuary environment.
Hard on the millions who were begged to cross our border without consequences — yes. Give those not active criminals some slack — but let them know it will not be as easy a path as they may have believed.
