Law enforcement agencies do not lack for tools to identify the insurrectionists in Minneapolis. They lack the will, at least in this instance. Were these insurrectionists peaceful protesters rallying against forced relocation to quarantine camps, the same agencies would be bringing the full weight of the surveillance state down upon every unvaccinated neck it could identify through Flocks, LPRs, and cellphone data.

The legal name of the 1861 to 1865 conflict is The War of the Rebellion. President Buchanan made the tension and move toward kinetic warfare worse by inaction when rebel forces moved to take over federal armories. I doubt that President Trump will make that same error.

This conflicted with the Northern version of freedom which, while not embracing full equality, understood basic rights in more egalitarian terms. Thus slavery was at the root of the conflict, even if that cause was manifested in other issues such as states’ rights or economics, and even if individual views of slavery and race might vary.

I’m a Southernor by ancestry and no one in my family ancestry ever held slaves.
Pretty much dirt poor Appalachians, originally from Germany, Ireland, Scotland, England, who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, and made something of themselves without owning slaves.
It was considered unChristian to own slaves.
(A completely different topic is one of racism and prejudice – I noticed that was quite strong in my Southern grandparents and their parents. That was pretty much beaten out of my generation, and half beaten out of my parents’ generation.)
So while slavery was the primary topic and reason given for the war, there was much more to it. And I’m sure it’s underpinnings were states’ rights versus the federal government, which is why I brought this up under the MN domestic insurgency thread.

Support for secession was never strong in Appalachia. West Virginia broke from Virginia, and the mountain regions in Tennessee and North Carolina never supported the Confederacy to the degree the rest of those states did. Lincoln was particularly interested in securing eastern Tennessee, which outright voted down the ordinance of secession.
Those who wish to entirely dismiss slavery as a cause of the war ignore the fact that counties which voted for secession had the highest numbers of slaves, whereas counties which voted against secession had the lowest numbers of slaves. Not everyone owned slaves, but Southern identity was tied to being a slave-holding society.
Appalachia not only had a smaller number of slaves, the people there largely came from an entirely different ancestry than Southerners in the coastal plain. As you point out the Appalachians were largely descendants of poor North English, Scots, Scots-Irish, and German tenant farmers whereas the coastal people came from southern and western England and tended to be descendants of the second and third sons of the lower gentry, or in the case of places like Charleston and New Orleans from the lower French gentry. These were two different cultures who had different views on slavery, secession, and Unionism.

I am horrified. I cannot believe it. I analyzed public databases and media reporting on violent confrontations with ICE over the past year. Just 9 counties accounted for TWO-THIRDS of violent confrontations with ICE in America. This is twice all violent confrontations in the remaining 3,134 counties COMBINED. A violent confrontation in these 9 counties was 590 TIMES more likely than any of these other 3,134 counties. 590 times. I plotted these 9 counties, and I found that all 9 counties are sanctuary jurisdictions run by Democrat politicians that resist immigration law enforcement. These violent confrontations are RARE in states and cities where local officials cooperate with law enforcement.

I have a rule I made for myself for about 10 years now, that I do not go North of the Vermilion Rivers course in Dakota County, from Interstate 35 to Hastings,MN, ( <about 10 miles or so North of me) unless I am passing thru to go to Northern MN on a vacation trip “Up North”, or on the return & do not stop passing thru the TC metro areas.
Only exception is the airport runs on occasion, to pick up or drop off family/friends who must fly in & out of there, & I maintain a current CC permit with the accompanying equipment that goes along with that responsibility when I do.
You folks are not alone in your “boycotting” the TCs and your avoidance of your presence in that cesspool.

I noted during the kungflu games that the local police and the prosecutors/judicial system had shifted the dynamic of crime here. Before that time participation in a crime in furtherance of a gang was an enhancer that added mandatory prison time. Once the St George of Fentanyl op started that enhancement was reversed and participation in ever-larger groups became a get out of jail free card. The local cops, prosecutors and judges all rotated those members of organized units right back onto the streets.
Back then I observed and noted that the roving gangs of criminals had gone from individuals with maybe one or at most two partners, to where they were operating at squad and even patrol sizes. It became common for car jackers to arrive in half a dozen or more stolen cars, with maybe 2 dozen armed criminals (most with full auto adaptations on their weapons). The units were being coordinated as an even larger group, just say company size.
That was 2020 and 2021. Now what do we see? Battalions?
I warned many people then that their sense of safety because they were rural was false, that once these units were fully trained up and operating in large forces they will roll through those rural areas with ease. Remote farmhouses will have no better chance now than they did when the braves left the reservation and ravaged the countryside.

A mob of protestors confronted Rittenhouse, who tried to disengage. Law enforcement is nowhere to be found. The mob chased him. The mob attempted to club him with skateboards. When the mob cornered him and were trying to kill him, Rittenhouse fired in self-defense killing two.
The Left demonized Rittenhouse and to this day threaten to murder him.
January 2026, Alex Pretti a trained ER nurse, goes to a protest in Minneapolis armed with a 9mm pistol and extra magazines. He actively engages in harassing and video-streaming federal agents trying to arrest an illegal alien, Jose Huerta Chuma, with a long history of criminal activities, including domestic assault, disorderly conduct and driving without a license.
Pretti rushed at federal agents who were fending off an attack by a different protestor. Pretti refuses to back off, refuses to comply, refuses to give up his weapon and instead gets fully engaged into a struggle with multiple federal law enforcement officers. He ends up dead.

You have to take into consideration of what a portion on the God fearing citizens will do. Obviously the gentleman is spot on with his analysis. But this isn’t just a; what will Trump do, what will the government do, what happens if Democrats win the next election debate. You have to include in the calculus what will the citizenry do to halt this leftist insurrection. At some point if the state and federal governments (and the maginot line GOP) do not get a hold on this, then we the people will start to fight back. That I believe needs to be a part of this strategic thinking and gaming this out. At some point the ‘good and mind your own business citizenry’ is going to have enough and it will organize and fight back. Then we have a tinder-box. We as a nation of parents, grandparents and older generation need to demonstrate to our next generations that you have to fight for your freedom and the wonderful culture that we once had.
