Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) Director Dr. Mehmet Oz and Deputy Director for Health and Human Services, Jim O’Neill, just released a stunning video from Minnesota. They discuss a former linen factory that was transformed into 400 Medicaid businesses that generated almost $380 million in billing to CMS.
It doesn’t make sense. One industrial building housing almost 400 individual Medicaid businesses that cost taxpayers $380 million in payments for services that are now under investigation. It is almost guaranteed these complex houses fraudulent fake businesses. Director Oz dropped the video on his X account.

There are so many transactions done electronically now that often no one in the bank actually SEES anything! The algorithms are probably set so as to avoid anything that would trigger suspicions. If a customer moves $9K per day, per account, then it is below the threshold to report, but they can move close to 2.5 million dollars in a year…. and with 400 businesses in this complex alone that starts to add up to a LOT of money!
I am old enough to remember when we used to get transaction reports, on paper, every morning, of all of the transactions that had happened the previous day for each of our customers, personal or business accounts. And the branch bookkeeper went through those reports and made a notation of anything that seemed out of the ordinary and we would contact the customer to verify that they had indeed initiated the transaction! (Yes, I AM that old! LOL!)

A couple of years ago did research into Medicaid fraud, and one problem was that the people investigating fraud were “overwhelmed.” They were “overwhelmed” because it was a small office that politicians could point to if asked about fraud. The real reason was that politicians DON’T WANT fraud to be investigated because they benefitted from it, doubtless in multiple and deniable ways. I was a government contractor for almost 30 years, working on both Medicare Part B and Part D contracts. Many years ago (maybe early 2000s?), the government arrested a foreign “provider” (Russian, I THINK) in Germany on a Friday and needed as much proof of his fraud as possible to present to the German courts so they didn’t have to release him. One of our employees worked all weekend, got the data and created a presentation that convinced the court to hold him for extradition. The funny thing was what he did to start them looking at him, which was submitting claims for 3 MRIs in one day for the same person. That could obviously happen, but having them in Florida, New York AND Arizona was not. Dude’s greed combined with stupidity and maybe lack of geographical knowledge of the USA got him.
Names are involved in all of these 400 criminal businesses.
Bank account information and exactly where the money is and went because “Nothing” is undetectable unless it’s the criminal DS actors then nothing will be revealed.

What was the specific flow chart of how businesses get recognized as Medicaid/Medicare service providers?
What individuals approved them? They have names.
What is the flow chart for requests for payment? Does the State receive these? Does the State pay, then request reimbursement from the Federal government? What sort of backup is required? Who are the individuals responsible for reviewing and approving payments?
Who is supposed to inspect the businesses to make sure they are legit? People with names had that job.
Were the government employees responsible for assuring things were legit ordered to look aside by politicians? If so who, what, when?
400 dumb as dirt Somali fraudsters didn’t just happen to coalesce at this old factory. Who recruited and “helped” businesses get set up, and get official addresses at this front location? Someone, probably lawyers, set up their LLCs, set up their leases, and helped set up accounts and their “claims” processes.
All the operators and helpers are part of an organized crime operation, and should be taken down in a massive RICO prosecution.
Kudos to Dr. Oz for shining the flashlight on these roaches, but the FBI and DoJ need to be all over this. Meanwhile, Oz should be finding and shutting down such operations all over the US. Stop the funding! Implement safeguards to catch fraud before it mounts up in Millions of $.
