Hi Truli, I have been here in N.Texas for almost 26 years and have never been down to the Gulf. Too busy running a horse ranch and now that I’ve only one horse left and have downsized, on a fixed income, have to watch the pennies so I can keep my fur babies and myself fed and pay the bills. Not a whole lot leftover for a vacation right now.

My hyacinths don’t usually peek through the snow until April at the earliest, that is unless we have a freakish warm spell at the end of March, then, maybe, they’ll put on their winter coats and head up.
It is supposed to get to minus 27 air temperature here in northern Minnesota tonight. After realizing that minus 27 degrees means we will be 59 degrees below freezing helps me to understand why the family size pork chops we forgot to bring in from the car — parked in the attached garage — was rock hard less than 2 hours later.
These are the nights I do a lot of praying and asking the Lord to protect anyone that needs to be outside for any reason, to protect the animals that are not settled in for the night, to protect our homes and keep our furnaces working, and to keep us in His perfect peace while we traverse this brutal cold.

I rarely use computers in my classroom, mostly paper. Last year we had a 2-week internet problem. I was unaffected. Other teacher’s students were out in the courtyard throwing frisbees for a few days while their teacher scrambled for activities. I’m retiring after next year. Some days, after observing kids, I think the country is doomed; other days, I’m encouraged.

No doubt about it! The US military does have the best trained pilots in the world. I’ve flown in a lot of different military aircraft in different situations and not once was I nervous. Not flying low level through the Alps at night in a Huey or the two times the C-130 I was on lost an engine. Never had a concern.

Yes! That is one of two systems the US military uses for inflight refueling. The one shown shows a probe and drogue refueling system with a funnel with flexible fuel line that often is run from an underwing drop tank of the aircraft doing the refueling. For helicopters that is the system used and and aircraft supplying the fuel is usually prop driven. Our Navy and USMC use this system primarily.
For many jets in our Air Force this is how it’s done.
Some jets still use the probe and drogue system type shown above.
The boom system can transfer fuel significantly faster than the probe and drogue system and that is important when refueling larger aircraft such as strategic bombers and transport aircraft that carry a lot of fuel.
I have been a passenger in a MC-130 being refueled at night using the probe and drogue system and you get jerked around some while that is going on as the pilot makes quick corrections to stay hooked up.
Thank you so much for this education on our Military aircraft and the systems they use for refueling. I learned something new today. Here is my big THANK YOU.
