Rhode Island – […] “On December 18, 2025, a Rhode Island state court, based on an affidavit from a Providence Police Detective, issued a state arrest warrant for Neves Valente charging him with two counts of murder and 23 felony counts of assault and felony firearms offenses.
Earlier this evening, law enforcement tracked Neves Valente to a Salem, New Hampshire storage unit. After obtaining a federal search warrant for the unit, authorities entered and found Neves Valente deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Neves Valente (age 48) was born in Torres Novas, Santarem, Portugal and was a Legal Permanent Resident of the United States. Neves Valente arrived in the United States in August 2000 as an F-1 student at Brown University and subsequently obtained U.S. lawful permanent residency in April 2017. While at Brown University, he was enrolled in a doctoral program but subsequently withdrew from the university.” – Affidavit Here

There is no motive being outlined by law enforcement or FBI investigators. However, the level of planning outlined within the affidavit itself would indicate specific targeting.
♦ Valente first arrived in the USA on a student visa August 23, 2000. Valente would have been 23 years old.
♦ Valente was only at Brown University for two semesters (Sept 1, 2000, to May 21, 2001).
♦ Sixteen years later Valente was granted a diversity visa. May 10, 2017.
♦ On Sept 14, 2017, Valente became a legal permanent resident (green card holder). Valente would have been 40 years old.
♦ On December 13, 2025, Valente returns to Brown University approximately 24 years after he dropped out and begins shooting people.

The homeless man is more aware of his surroundings that the security at Brown University. Apparently he is a graduate of Brown but capable of observing his surroundings, yet having no job or place to live?

You can definitely find fault with this as a security measure,
But letting a homeless man sleep in the building was THE MOST EFFECTIVE security measure that Brown University took.
And just think without his input, Rhode Island officials would still be giving each other tongue baths while striking out at anybody who wants answers.
And the villains body would still be stinking up that storage facility in New Hampshire.
What if the perp had not heard the news about the homeless guy reporting on him. He may not have gone to the storage facility and could still be walking the streets because the keystone cops prolly wouldn’t still have found him.
Somewhere, I think in the Professor murder presser, I heard he went straight to the storage unit after killing the Professor. If correct, I don’t think he waited to see if they were on to him yet.
Eventually they will tell us when he offed himself. If he had TV, Radio, computer or phone access and if he was following news about the investigation. And maybe even his motive.
But remember, he is likely to be far gone in his thinking process. So his motive may not be something we can understand. So many of these are idiotic murder suicides. None of us understand the murders of innocents. While it would be better if they got the help they need, there is no need to take others with them.

He shot the professor on the 15th and killed himself on the 16th.
They found him on the 18th.

other sites report that John is the night custodian and they let him sleep there probably to pay him less. He does know the building and the campus because he went there and works there. He is homeless but not jobless.
Homeless John was the Neighborhood Watch for that part of Brown University.

But one dude came out of the woodwork and did all of that stuff, then fled to a storage unit far far away from all of it and blew his own brains out. Sure. Okay.

The shooter actually was in the same physics class as the MIT professor in Portugal. The MIT guy was a big success and the shooter dropped out of school. I’m guessing the motive was envy.
I can see there was planning and premeditation throughout the Brown shooting. I could see that if the shooter and the MIT physics professor were both from Portugul and both were in physics in the US, there might be some reason to target the MIT professor.
I cannot see what this pattern says about targeting the woman killed at Brown. Why would you target her at a review session? How would you know she would be there? Why wouldn’t you target her at some campus Republican event?

Why would they need a search warrant to open a storage unit that should have been unlocked unless someone locked him inside of it? He was found dead inside of it.
And why do they need a search warrant during a criminal investigation for a Murderer who is most likely armed?
Brown is likely to settle any and all lawsuits arising from this out of court. They last thing they want is to face Discovery and have all their dirty rotten secrets be exposed in open court.
It would finish them and their Rhode Island Hospital enterprise.
As I implied,… Go to Brown,… and live with the consequences or maybe end up homeless or dead in a storage bldg.
