New York Representative Elise Stefanik announced on X that she is suspending her race for New York governor and will not be seeking reelection in congress. Essentially a complete exit from electoral politics.
ELISE STEFANIK – While spending precious time with my family this Christmas season, I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for Governor and will not seek re-election to Congress. I did not come to this decision lightly for our family.
I am truly humbled and grateful for the historic and overwhelming support from Republicans, Conservatives, Independents, and Democrats all across the state for our campaign to Save New York.
However, as we have seen in past elections, while we would have overwhelmingly won this primary, it is not an effective use of our time or your generous resources to spend the first half of next year in an unnecessary and protracted Republican primary, especially in a challenging state like New York.
And while many know me as Congresswoman, my most important title is Mom. I believe that being a parent is life’s greatest gift and greatest responsibility. I have thought deeply about this and I know that as a mother, I will feel profound regret if I don’t further focus on my young son’s safety, growth, and happiness – particularly at his tender age.
I am incredibly grateful to the people of New York’s 21st District for entrusting me to represent you in the United States Congress. Thank you to my dedicated staff over the past decade. I am proud of the significant results that we successfully delivered for the hardworking families in our district and across America. It has been a tremendous professional honor to serve as your Congresswoman over the past eleven years.

This is a very interesting withdrawal from politics. Stefanik was very well positioned within the republican party and within republican party leadership in Washington DC. However, earlier this month, fellow Republican and Nassau County official Bruce Blakeman, whom President Trump had labeled “100% MAGA” announced his own bid for governor, setting up a contested primary between himself and Stefanik.
Stefanik had a recent dustup with Speaker Johnson over the issue of an amendment to the NDAA that would require the FBI to give congressional notification for any candidate for federal office who would be under investigation. She won that battle and the amendment was included.
Wow. To me, she was a political superstar.

While many men have made a total hash as head of state since WW2, how many women have excelled in this role? I could probably count them on the fingers of one hand and have fingers to spare. Fixing the leadeship problem is not resolved by replacing men with women but choosing competent, principled, decisive, honest and wise men. There lies our problem – we usually get what we deserve because we see democracy as some kind of magic wand while we allow an ignorant and foolish majority to decide. We need a qualified electorate limited to those have proved themselves to be responsible, hard working citizens.
With the birth rates below replacement it becomes common sense that the folks that can have babies need to concentrate on keeping the human race going. Nothing is more important. The Thatchers are truly a dime a dozen. Most of them don’t enter politics. Politics attracts the worst of us. I would not want many of them as friends.

It seemed like the whole point of backtracking her nomination to the United Nations was to make sure Republicans kept their majority. I think that hurt her sensibilities and made her feel like she was being held back from what she wanted/needed to do. Clearly being a member of congres is hard on the soul. Spending most of my life in Nassau County and knowing a bit about the LI political scene, I believe Blakeman would be an excellent governor.
I am a lifelong Nassau County resident, and Blakeman is pure MAGA, more than Stefanik. He would be an amazing governor, but I would hate to lose him as County Executive. I’m also not sure about his chances in the governor race. Stefanik was polling better than the communist last time I looked.

New York State and New York City invented election fraud 200 years ago. This is the state of Tammany Hall. Corrupt to its core. Lee Zeldin beat Gov Horseface in 2022, but miraculously, votes were found in Brooklyn and Manhattan that had “somehow” been overlooked.
In an honest election in this state, Stefanik or Blakeman have a better than average chance, because most areas outside of NYC and a few other cities are red. But the cheat here is in so solidly in NYC and the smaller blue cities that there would have to be an overwhelming red wave to overcome it.
And given the laziness, incompetence, corruption, and RINO nature of the NYS GOP, that ain’t happening. So we keep our local areas as red as possible to counter the commies in Albany, but state-wide, beating the cheat and the traitorous RINOs is very difficult.

Your experience matches something I heard personally from RS McCain who tried to question Marsha B. about some dicey topic during a press “scrum” at CPAC one year and his view was that Marsha was exteremely disciplined i.e., not going to get involved in baited questions.

She was considered a moderate until her recent alignment with PDJT45/47 and MAGA. She was in thick with the RINOs for a long time until she seemingly converted, like Rubio.
I guess the GOP has decided to punt on the NY governorship, or PDJT47 has bigger plans for Stefanik. Or both. The most glaring hole in the current administration is AG Barbie, but Stefanik lacks legal chops.
In the second chapter of Titus in the Bible it says young women should be “keepers at home”.
It does not say young women should stay at the house, it says keepers at home.
In those days the woman maintained the fiscal dwelling, conducted the business of the home and had the responsibility of raising the kids while the men were off fighting somewhere. She was literally the keeper of the home.
Congresswoman Stefanik said she has determined that she needs more time to focus on keeping her home. I accept her decision at face value.
