The question is: Did Brown University acquiesce under pressure from far-left human rights groups to disable their CCTV systems, in advance of the mass shooting on campus?
As originally reported in August 2025 {SOURCE}, a group of far-left human rights advocates sent a letter to 150 U.S. colleges and universities asking them to disable the CCTV systems to protect “free expression and academic freedom across the country,” because “the Trump administration has launched an aggressive campaign against US academic institutions.”
The motive for the request to disable CCTV systems as stated: “Right now these tools are facilitating the identification and punishment of student protesters, undermining activists’ right to anonymity––a right the Supreme Court has affirmed as vital to free expression and political participation.” {SOURCE}
The letter from ‘Fight For The Future‘ (August, 2025) came after an earlier campaign by the same group seeking to stop the use of facial recognition cameras on college campuses. {SOURCE}
The Brown University President and school officials have been giving ridiculous answers to questions about the 800 cameras on the campus and the fact that no current footage exists of the shooter walking around inside the campus or inside the buildings therein.
The question is really a simple one. Did Brown University follow the requests of the hardline leftist groups who asked the school to disable the functioning of their surveillance network in order to protect the identity of the students on campus?
Obviously, this potential explanation would answer a lot of seemingly irreconcilable questions about the lack of surveillance footage available to local law enforcement, state police and FBI investigators. The only current footage of the shooter is from privately owned doorbell cameras and CCTV systems from businesses near the campus. No footage of the shooter on campus has been identified.
Against the factual evidence of Brown University receiving requests to disable their surveillance cameras, someone needs to ask the right question.
Everyone can see the potential ramifications here, along with the severity of the legal risk Brown University would be facing. Perhaps that dynamic is what’s behind the twisted wording and explanations coming from university and local officials.

I have a friend who, as an adjunct professor at an American university, traveled to China every year to teach a business class. He laughed when noting that every classroom had monitoring cameras installed.
I just can’t seem to recall any of these caring international organizations publishing protests or organizing advisory messages to the Chinese gov’t.
I was a professor of business for years. CCTV was all over campus. The human rights groups sending the message to Brown argued “academic freedom,” which applies to curriculum to be taught and protecting the content of lectures, not protesters.

Yes, our elementary, middle and high schools keep all doors locked and have installed various methods of identifying visitors. I dare say the administrative offices are locked tight.

The camera’s I’ve seen on the market require owners to waive in if they want to share their video feeds. So it’s not free access from what i’ve seen. NSA I’m sure doesn’t follow that rule though.
Good luck with that. Mine doesn’t start recording until the motion is almost gone. It’s video is worse than these clips. And now that I stopped paying for access, who knows if they even record them.
I can though still look through it and converse with anyone on the porch. That’s not saved either.
And somehow the delivery people almost never showed up.

How many other universities got the same letter, and what is the status of their CCVT systems?

When it became obvious to me that half the readers missed that bit of information, I started posting about that sentence from Sundance’s introduction to this article. The fact that it went to 150 colleges and universities really scares me for those who have kids in college

I am not aware any more of Universities that are Christian, and Conservative. The simple answer is to not send your kids to those liberal universities and watch them be intellectually destroyed.
Right now, I’ve been advising my children with children to “skip college”. The grandchildren are all homeschooled now. I have several advanced degrees, so it’s not that I’m uneducated and ignorant. I even taught at the University level. What I experienced teaching, and also working my way through my degrees, is that University is not where true learning happens any more. Pretty much a useless endeavor other than the shingles I could hang on my resume. Very expensive shingles. Teach them to start their own businesses. American education is in shambles.
I am having trouble reconciling this demand by Leftists/Marxists/name your “-ist” to remove cameras. I thought they love intense surveillance 🤔
They certainly do across the pond where there isn’t a corner of the UK which isn’t covered by cameras, many of the facial recognition kind.
Over there destroying CCTV cameras is considered God’s work.

The fat/weight is mainly on the stomach area, with general broadening of the body.
