The Democrats hated the Big Beautiful Bill budget and spending legislation, so the Republicans had to suspend the filibuster to pass it. However, the Democrats are blocking the BBB budget and spending legislation by shutting down government, and the Republicans will not suspend the filibuster to open it.

Friend of mine is pals with aides in our local Congressman’s office. They were on a flight together to DC. What the aide told my friend was that nothing would happen until after the election. The election will be used to “take the temperature”.
So, if you haven’t voted, get out there and pull that lever. If (D) turnout gets swamped, eg GOP takes NJ and VA, and they see smaller races nationwide going our way, the shutdown will end (I don’t honestly care about that). I take it “eliminate the filibuster” means to use the so-called “nuclear option” of raising a constitutional question on the rules of the Senate and requesting the Senate to decide by a majority of those present and voting that a ruling to allow rules change by a majority is in order. That would mean such a rules change could invoke cloture without the 3/5ths requirement.

I’m active in local politics here in Northern Indiana. I moved here five years ago to get away from Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois Democrats and their failed policies. What I’m seeing now is more than a few local politicians (both home-grown and recent transplants) who switched from Democrat to Republican just to get elected (RINO Opportunistic).
Most of them are in it for the paycheck, perks or patronage jobs for family/friends (just like Chicago/Cook County but on a much smaller scale). They talk about principles but have none. They’ve got no real loyalty to MAGA or America First, and occasionally, behind closed doors, they mock the same Trump supporters they pretend to represent. RINO PRETENDUS. Beware of this doubly bad type of RINO in your local county Republican Party.
You don’t need a vote to change the senate or house rules. The speaker/majority leader writes the rules at the beginning of the session. They can and will change the rules when it suits thier purposes. When it doesn’t, they just tell everyone the rules are ironclad and set in stone.
