Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Celebrate the arrival of the weekend… go have a great time
Good morning, Garrison. You keep trying, good music, but still no rainy despite your rainy day cafe <grin>
Because you asked, it’s on the way. heh.
🙂 And the ‘rainy-day-women’ are also in short supply of late . . . Or, maybe it’s just that I’m too late for the party (most likely I think).
Howdy Garrison!
Howdy, Gramps! 😉
Wow, great signboards showing snares for turning wheat into tares.
Religion is far off the straight and narrow. Way way far away.
But it is also closest to the flames of hell.
Back when the NFL was great! Long ago I was a Cowboys fan before the Colts came to Indy. Now I hate the NFL!

They called him stupid!
@Sassafrass_84
This is powerful.
They called him “The Stupid”—and that’s exactly what he wanted. When Navy sailor Douglas Hegdahl was captured during the Vietnam War and thrown into the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison camp, he made a decision that would save hundreds of lives. He would play dumb. Hegdahl acted confused, clumsy, harmless. His captors laughed at him. They gave him freedom to wander because they thought he was too simple to be a threat.
They were catastrophically wrong.
While pretending to stumble around, Hegdahl was secretly pouring dirt into enemy truck fuel tanks, quietly sabotaging their operations. But his greatest act of defiance was invisible: he began memorizing every detail about his fellow prisoners—names, capture dates, conditions—information the enemy deliberately kept hidden from the world. 256 names. 256 faces. 256 families who deserved to know their loved ones were alive.
How did he remember them all? He set the information to the tune of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” singing it silently in his head, day after day. In 1969, Hegdahl was released as part of a propaganda stunt. The North Vietnamese thought they were freeing a harmless fool.
Instead, they released one of the war’s most valuable intelligence assets. The moment he reached American soil, Hegdahl delivered every name, every detail, ensuring that 256 prisoners would not be forgotten. Sometimes the most powerful weapon isn’t strength—it’s the courage to let others underestimate you.
Great kickass story! He may have gotten his simply brilliant plan from a man’s man called by God: King David.
Check out 1 Samuel 21:10-15 ESV. (It’s a short read😬)

“Take Me Home” was recorded in 1980 by Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle. As the photos in the video show, both were in their late 20’s (+/-) at the time. They are both now in their mid 70’s . . . Tom’s phrase . . . “All the world’s not round without you” . . . is especially poignant, I think.

Well, the evidence is in, Christ left behind an image of a Frank. That is not like any image from that time and place. (Israel at the time of Christ.). But hey, all our European images of Christ are of a European Christ, so that confirms our great artists were right all along.
BTW when you read in the Gospel about Christ raising Lazarus, Lazarus was bound with cloth strips. Couldn’t free himself and had to be untied. Not a loosely draped single piece that he could just slip out of.. Could be they planned on cutting the strips and finish binding Christ later. But I have a problem with the statement that it was totally what was the custom of the time.
Early on they show the front and back side by side and give a height. Go back and look carefully. The right side image is much taller than the left side image. And speaking of image, why isn’t the face on that face cloth? Especially if it was done by ultraviolet that can’t pass through the first cloth it hits. (Speaking of the image again, is it only on one side of the cloth? I haven’t heard one way or another.)
It is interesting. This is the first attempt I have seen to give it an older history, instead of just showing up in France after the Crusades. But even this teller says that this story is a lot more solid after it shows up in France.
You know, there is nothing in the New Testament about relic worship. (The OT has the things in the Holy of Holies. Ark, Tablets, the staff, etc.) There is a tradition that some Christians fled Jerusalem to Pella before Jerusalem fell. But there are no traditions about them bringing all these holy relics with them. If they didn’t bring them, they would have been burned like the rest of Jerusalem. Yet a couple hundred years later, Constantine’s mom found all sorts of relics in Jerusalem. Like the true cross. And again, no record of her finding the Shroud. Did anyone even care at the time to save these things? Austria said it had the spear used to pierce Christ’s side. Who took it from the soldier?
I really hate the changing story on what was carbon dated and why the dating failed. Others said it was because of the smoke from the fire. Shifting stories like that are not something that imbues trust. Also, there is something wrong with only being allowed to test this and then being wrong because you only tested this. Set up to fail. Except the carbon date completely agrees with it suddenly showing up in France. And there is no chance of the carbon dating being redone properly. And frankly, the believers will still strive to make up more reasons why that new result disagrees with them
The way most of this usually works, nobody thinks at the time to save this stuff. And by the time someone thinks about it it is gone. And if someone does think about it in time to save it and worship it, the people who do would write about it.
And, there are significant issues about worshipping things about Christ instead of Christ. These are signs. Neither Christ nor Paul were very happy about people seeking signs.
Hurricane report.
US model showing Melissa going across eastern Jamaica and he European model is showing it going across western Jamaica.
Both models have moved the track west closer to the US Eastern coast as it moves NNE. But neither show it actually coming ashore.
As Melissa tracks off the eastern sea board next week there will be a strong Nor Easter bringing strong wave action from the outerbanks right up into Maine late in that week. Because of the Nor Easters and near misses beach erosion along that portion of the US east coast this year will be higher than normal even without a direct hit by a hurricane.
Anyway, at this time it looks like Jamaica is going to get nailed by a major hurricane and then eastern Cuba followed by the Bahamas. The mountains in Jamaica will knock it down some then it will hit warm water again before hitting Cuba. Get knocked down some again, then get over the warm water again to strengthen before hitting the Bahamas.
And what will make this storm worse for Jamaica is that it is moving very slow. As I write this the NHC shows it moving due North at 2 mph.
Here’s a site for those interested in this stuff.
https://www.weathernerds.org/tc_guidance/AL13.html
Good news for Jamaica. Most models now show Melissa beginning her turn west earlier so that the storm will not skirt the southern coast as it was forecast to do before.

Tycho Brahe
(1546-1601)
Danish astronomer (set new standards for astronomical observations), dies in Prague at 54
Biography: Known in his lifetime as an astronomer and alchemist, and for his accurate and comprehensive astronomical and planetary observations.
In 1572 he made his reputation after observing a new star in the Cassiopeia constellation, providing evidence that the heavens beyond were not fixed as Aristotelian doctrine maintained. In 1776 Danish King Frederick II granted him the island of Hven to build an observatory and it became a center of scientific enquiry and where Tyche designed and built a number of new and improved instruments.
In 1597, after falling out of favour with Danish King Christian IV, Brahe moved to Prague where in his last years he trained his successor and heir Johannes Kepler.

(1927-2011)
American computer scientist (coined the term “artificial intelligence,” created the Lisp programming language), dies at 84
Biography: John McCarthy was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist who made seminal contributions to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) as an academic discipline. He is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of AI, having coined the term “artificial intelligence” in 1955 and organized the Dartmouth Conference in 1956, which marked the formal beginning of AI research.
McCarthy’s most significant contributions to AI include his development of the Lisp programming language in 1958, which became the primary programming language for AI research and is still used today. He also introduced the concept of time-sharing, a method that allows multiple users to share computing resources simultaneously, which was a major breakthrough in the early days of computing.
Throughout his career, John McCarthy was a leading figure in AI research and a key advocate for the field. He founded the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) in 1963 and received numerous accolades for his work, including the Turing Award in 1971.

Good morning America.
For some time I seem to be the ‘majority of one’ in Europe, who appreciates what President Trump is trying to achieve for us by holding back the tide of evil which is besetting is world.
I can only think of ONE so called main stream newspaper which gives him any grudging credit and that is The Daily Mail an English daily.
In Ireland there is only one website with which I am familiar called Gript dot com, in Britain The Conservative Woman dot com The Daily Sceptic dot com and the London version of Breitbart which shows any balanced coverage of his crusade.
My Friday composition is my humble attempt to express my appreciation, or rather my explanation of the bile which he and his supporters have to endure.
TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
The most virulent pandemic
Is the one known as TDS,
More contagious than Wuhan flu
It’s spread across the universe;
All the satanists have panicked
To try and find an antidote,
But our modern archangel
Upset their plans to steal the vote.
They tried to control the virus
By censoring alternate views,
They demonised the President
In the daily feed of fake news;
They went to professor Fauci
And their patron saint Bill Gates,
To try and stop the Trumpian train
Before it reached the railway gates.
Followed down the track at warp speed
With all the media on board,
They installed a moth eaten puppet
In the most blatant case of fraud;
With the paid-for propagandists
They enlisted royalty and popes,
To poison the well of reality
By putting Trump upon the ropes.
But he was just shadow boxing
Waiting to score the knockout blow,
He proved to be the come-back kid
As their reaction was too slow;
Now the undisputed champion
Against all-comers he prevailed,
No known vaccine can cure their ills
All prescribed medicines have failed.
Patrick Healy
PS I borrowed the moth eaten puppet from the great Mark Steyn
Isn’t it amazing that 2 (or more) people can look/read/see the exact same “reality” yet have completely differing interpretations. It’s like the truth and the lie co-exit simultaneously – the lies/falsehoods/misunderstandings out numbering the truth…, well…….whatever to 1.
The conclusion people arrive at is usually an indication of “who they are” at that moment – and unfortunately not many people bother to really find out – it’s easier to let someone else tell you. Plus most times it requires scratching in places, we’ve worked so hard on to suppress. Not always pleasant, but necessary if one is to open the door of complete honesty with God. Most often you find out that your particular hell wasn’t so unique at all. Better yet, it’s all good – now we can get on with the business of truth – then you will be able to recognize the 1 out of the babble.
Thank you Oldspeak.
That is very good interpretation of the situation
I only hope President Trump has enough time (and helpers) to right the ship before we run aground.
It’s not just America – the rest of us are relying on you/him.
Good day Patrick,
Your phrase
“To poison the well of reality” really spoke reams of meaning.
Obama was a sewer pf confusion and there are many other very gifted practitioners of this dark art. A long ago toast of the British Navy was, “Confusion to the enemy.”
Alinsky’s rules are all about lying to win.
Today many politicians make absolutely illogical and fact free statements and the media nod their heads yes and reinforce insanity.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. – 1 Corinthians 14:33
So then the axtion of sowing confusion is the devil’s work
Know them by their works.
Very nice! You have a good flow to your composition. I hope you keep it up.
J
Good afternoon Patrick. I like the poem. I enjoy Mark Steyn immensely and have read his books. He is really a wonderful and quite funny individual. It is a shame what the creepy demons put him through. It affected his health but he is still going strong.
I so wanted to visit Ireland, but did not get the chance before it got so bad. On my mom’s side, my Great Grandmother was Irish.
I am praying for you and your family every day for God’s divine protection in what I see happening over there. Hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
Thank you Pat my (not) old shipmate.
I was born and raised in Galway but have lived here in what was once bonny Scotland these past 48 years.

God bless you and all Treepers.

✟
“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
Luke 11:9 (KJV)
COMMENTARY FOR LUKE 11
“The disciples taught to pray. (1-4) Christ encourages being earnest in prayer. (5-13) Christ casts out a devil, The blasphemy of the Pharisees. (14-26) True happiness. (27,28) Christ reproves the Jews. (29-36) He reproves the Pharisees.” (37-54)
(5-13) “Christ encourages fervency and constancy in prayer. We must come for what we need, as a man does to his neighbour or friend, who is kind to him. We must come for bread; for that which is needful. If God does not answer our prayers speedily, yet he will in due time, if we continue to pray. Observe what to pray for; we must ask for the Holy Spirit, not only as necessary in order to our praying well, but as all spiritual blessings are included in that one. For by the influences of the Holy Spirit we are brought to know God and ourselves, to repent, believe in, and love Christ, and so are made comfortable in this world, and meet for happiness in the next. All these blessings our heavenly Father is more ready to bestow on every one that asks for them, than an indulgent parent is to give food to a hungry child. And this is the advantage of the prayer of faith, that it quiets and establishes the heart in God.”
Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710.

Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered !!!
WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
PLEASE PRAY FOR ABUSED, MISSING, AND TRAFFICKED CHILDREN
BE MY VOICE
CHILD NOT CHOICE
JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
PLEASE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
MAPA = MAKE AMERICA PRAY AGAIN
TEACH US TO PRAY, LORD
Our hearts, minds, and souls are distressed
No wonder with daily life we are stressed
What the enemy has wrought upon us
Is nothing short of a binding truss
Whatever is sacred whatever is true
They have stripped and turned us blue
They have jailed the innocent and they beat
They have stoked the fire turned up the heat
And thus we come to Your Heavenly Throne
Begging for mercy Humbly to atone
We are drugged discouraged and drowned
While weak You are strong we cannot back down
Teach us to Pray, Lord – Teach us to Pray
Help us get through each troubling day
Raise up our spirits and Heal our bodies
Help us shake off these poorly clad shoddies
Give us the words pleasing to You
Help us speak victory out of the blue
Deliver us from all that is plaguing us
Break us free from this binding truss
Tether our words with the Word of God
Break our chains Let us not be flawed
Send us a prayer written by Your Scribe
Unite us together in Your Holy Tribe
We know not how to pray as we ought
The Spirit moans the battle is fought
Jesus gave us a prayer the best of all
Our Father in Heaven to Him we call
We pray on the Armor of God each day
To keep the enemy and his friends at bay
We feel protected by the Heavenly Host
The Army of Angels we need the most
Teach us to Pray, Lord – Teach us to Pray
Remind us to come to You ev’ry day
Help us to trust You with all of our hearts
Because it beckons to You and imparts
Our understanding is no match for Yours
Vengeance is Your way to fight the wars
Acknowledgement is critical as well
No one wants to end up in Hell
We thank You, Lord, for chatting with us
For clearing the air and silencing the fuss
To You, Lord, we give Honor and Praise
And Glory, Lord, for the rest of our days!

Hmmmm, unfortunately almost all the emphasis (importance) is elevated to the top 3/4’s, and little to none on the last and most important. Going so far as to say it’s a flat out lie. It’s not just the flag of the USA in question, but every nation on earth who’s proclamation mentions God. Is not the Bible the blueprint (and destiny) of any and all nations who dishonor/disavow the covenant.?? Indivisible means 1 – 1 with God. Get it right and good times are accompanying. 🙂

Shots fired last night at an anti-ICE protester attempting to ram the gates of US Coast Guard Station Alameda, California
A protester attempted to ram the gates driving a U-Haul truck in reverse. He was driving erratically, moving forward and back, then accelerated in reverse toward the gate. Guards yelled warnings then fired shots.
The Coast Guard Station was being used as a staging area to house federal ICE and other agents in preparation for the crackdown in San Francisco and Bay Area. There have been anti-ICE protests all around the area for several days.
The protesters claim the U-Haul driver was not part of the protest. But other reports are that he was hanging around the protests for several hours before moving on the gate. This still photo from earlier in the day shows the truck part of the protester’s blockade of the gate.

The driver was wearing a mask!
Just some random masked bystander stealing a protest truck and framing all those peaceful protesters with acts of violence. /s
So, Do you rent a truck because you are planning to do something that will damage it and cause its impoundment?
Or do you think they won’t be able to figure out who rented it?
Probably got “stolen” from the renter of the truck. /s

You, too!
JUST. BECAUSE…
MAYBE JUST MAYBE
Been thinking much of this and that
Not really sure of where we are at
Why this flirtation came to be
What is going on tween you and me
Fascinating to think of what fun it is
To banter back and forth in the whiz
Of getting to know me you and you me
Of wondering what in the world will be
Virtual hugs and smiles unseen appear
To taunt us daily and yet to hold dear
Imagining what the real would be like
For a brawny beau and a little tyke
The flowers paintings and songs oh so sweet
Have really dost become a daily treat
Silly poems come in a moment’s time
Funny how they rip roar and somehow rhyme
What is it that percolates in the mind
Unabated unassigned undefined
Is it the mystery that fascinates
These two mimes and avangarde advocates
The novel remains and is unwritten
Of these two fools obviously smitten
The game is on and the winner unknown
As each conceals lest their cover blown
Are you sitting comfortably right now
A song so pertinent and yet somehow
Still a quirk of the imagination
That feeds and fuels the fascination
Out there somewhere you reside and strive
Under God’s protection you live and thrive
To make your life worthwhile and true blue
You need to remember why God made you
You have a divine appointment unique
That takes you soaring from peak to peak
What is it that daily just spurs you on
From the hither here to thither yon
Who are you and what is it you have done
That sustains you and sturs you so to stun
The birds and the bees you can co-command
As if by God’s Hand was perfectly planned
There is a reason for this gift of grace
Properly peculiar to your private place
Only God knows why he planted your there
And why He put you out there somewhere
What is the reason for this confusing rhyme
And why is it suddenly I am out of time
Maybe because there is no solution
No ready release or resolution
Maybe just maybe it is time to rest
And to thank you for being my guest
Maybe just maybe time will reveal
What is hidden in the heart to unseal

Serenity at Day’s End
Heavenly Father, with the closing of this day, I ask for serenity. As the night sky displays its vast beauty, let my soul mirror its peacefulness. Help me to let go of the worries of the day and trust in Your loving care. May Your peace reign in my heart and home tonight. Amen.
Prayer for Restful Stillness
Dear God, in the stillness of this evening, I come to You seeking rest for my soul. Help me to lay down the burdens I’ve carried today and find comfort in Your arms. Grant me peace that passes understanding and a rest that restores my spirit. May my sleep be undisturbed and my dreams be sweet. Amen.

For 87 octane gasoline,
just paid $ 2.33 per gallon.
I have not seen that low of a gas price for about 4 years.
I complained ( with a dry humor ) to the gas station attendant about the price,
as the attendant caught on (after 3 years of other people complaining),
to my dry kidding,
the smile on the attendant face grew bigger and bigger. : )
The attendant said thank you, as did I. : )
p.s.
that lower energy price can, over time,
ripple into lower prices of many other consumer products (that need energy for producing, transporting, freshness etc. )
p.s.
just saw that the inflation rose, -to lower than ‘experts’ expected.
(and yes, the prior inflation for 3+ years is still in many products )
p.s.
next…. interest rate drop…. ?
p.s.
and yes, the government is shut down, for the last 23 days.
The national debt is at $ 37 trillion, and the dems want to spend more…
hmmm…
I noticed today that our gas price for reg unleaded for the first time in a long time went to 2.99 & I have 1.00 off this month from Kroger points…. 1.99 in my future before the end of the month woot.

Scott S. from the Marco Rubio article today posted this Reply to Jt at 4:05 pm”
The commandment is to make disciples of all nations. No special carve-out for certain groups or peoples. We have been cautioned that “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Note the emphasis on “doing” not simply “believing”.
My response:
Scott, there is no emphasis from either the Father or the Son on “doing” over “believing.” Not in the Bible / New Testament..
“Doing” the Will of the Father means believing in the Son and His promise to believers. Of course we should strive to ray tp the father and repenting of our sins, and to live as righteously as we are able.
Yet eternal life (heaven) is promised to all those who simply believe. The necessity of “doing” (works) was according to The Law (Old testament, Judaism) before Christ came and sacrificed Himself for us on the cross.
Here are just a few passages that support this critically important aspect of the Christian faith:
John 3:36 – Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 5:24 – Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1 John 5:13 – I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
John 6:40 – For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Notice that none of these or other passages about belief in Christ giving eternal life say anything about also “doing __(whatever)__”.
Hi GB Bari, I’m going to quote you to start “there is no emphasis from either the Father or the Son on “doing” over “believing.” Not in the Bible / New Testament..”
This teaching about faith is consistent across multiple biblical passages; which uniformly state that (belief in Christ is the condition) for receiving eternal life. That is the “condition” to receive (number 1). The focus is on faith as the sole condition. There are more people than we know who by faith live lives with works that they naturally do without thinking about it – a smile, a hug, an encouraging word and a helping hand and even much more and do it willingly without looking for recognition, praise, to be liked, because they are expected to, to please someone, etc etc (all too many to mention – just the normal every day life experiences). And there are those who think or say : I do not kill someone, I obey the Commandments, I go to church, I don’t steal, I don’t rob someone, kick the neighbor’s dog, etc etc (zillions of reasons) After faith? Then what?
As for “there is no emphasis from either the Father or the Son on “doing” over “believing.” Not in the Bible / New Testament” I am pointing you to Jesus Himself (and thereafter the Apostles wrote or gave their testimony as to what Jesus’ teaching manifest in their own experiences). Jesus, God the Son taught in many instances in the Bible, that merely professing or outwardly showing faith; as if we can buy salvation, has said what Rubio quoted :
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”.
This statement is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 7, verse 21, and is part of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus emphasizes that true entry into the kingdom of heaven requires doing God’s will, not merely professing faith through words.
The passage warns against false assurance, noting that on the day of judgment, many will claim to have prophesied, cast out demons, and performed miracles in His name, yet He will declare, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness”.
Who? said along similar lines that..
‘Faith Without Works Is Dead’ in the Bible, other than what Jesus said above?
The phrase “faith without works is dead” appears in the New Testament, specifically in James 2:26. This verse concludes a broader passage (James 2:14–26) that emphasizes the necessity of good works as evidence of genuine faith.
The exact wording varies slightly by translation:
KJV: “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
NIV: “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
ESV: “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”
This passage is part of the Epistle of James, a book attributed to James, the brother of Jesus, and is addressed to early Christian communities.
In James 2:14–26, he argues that genuine faith must produce good works. He challenges the idea that merely professing belief in God is sufficient for salvation. Using rhetorical questions like “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?” (James 2:14), James insists that faith without action is useless and spiritually dead.
He illustrates this with examples from the Old Testament:
Abraham, who showed faith by being willing to sacrifice Isaac (James 2:21).
Rahab, the prostitute who protected the Israelite spies (James 2:25).
These figures were “considered righteous by what they did,” not by belief alone.
James completes his case for an often-misunderstood teaching. His point is that genuine faith in God naturally leads the believer to participate in good works. This isn’t a particularly radical idea, even from a non-spiritual point of view. If we actually believe that God is truly God and that He has saved us through our faith in Christ, why would we not obey Him? Our deeds don’t earn our salvation, but what we do proves whether or not we really have saving faith.
James drives the point home here with one last illustration. James makes a clever word-play here, similar to one Jesus uses in John chapter 3. James claims that a faith without works is just as dead as a body without pneumatos. This Greek term can mean “wind,” which is a euphemism.
Above all, to remember that James 2:14–26 is sometimes taken out of context in an attempt to create a works-based system of righteousness, but that is contrary to many other passages of Scripture.
James is not saying that our works make us righteous before God but that real saving faith is demonstrated by good works. Works are not the cause of salvation; works are the evidence of salvation. Faith in Christ always results in good works. The person who claims to be a Christian but lives in willful disobedience to Christ has a false or dead faith and is not saved. Paul basically says the same thing in 1 Corinthians 6:9–10. James contrasts two different types of faith—true faith that saves and false faith that is dead.
Many profess to be Christians, but their lives and priorities indicate otherwise. Jesus put it this way: “By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers’” (Matthew 7:16–23).
Notice that the message of Jesus is the same as the message of James. Obedience to God is the mark of true saving faith. James uses the examples of Abraham and Rahab to illustrate the obedience that accompanies salvation. Simply saying we believe in Jesus does not save us, nor does religious service. What saves us is the Holy Spirit’s regeneration of our hearts, and that regeneration will invariably be seen in a life of faith featuring ongoing obedience to God.
Misunderstanding the relationship of faith and works comes from not understanding what the Bible teaches about salvation. There are really two errors in regards to works and faith. The first error is “easy believism,” the teaching that, as long as a person prayed a prayer or said, “I believe in Jesus,” at some point in his life, then he is saved, no matter what. So a person who, as a child, raised his hand in a church service is considered saved, even though he has never shown any desire to walk with God since and is, in fact, living in blatant sin. This teaching, sometimes called “decisional regeneration,” is dangerous and deceptive. The idea that a profession of faith saves a person, even if he lives like the devil afterwards, assumes a new category of believer called the “carnal Christian.” This allows various ungodly lifestyles to be excused: a man may be an unrepentant adulterer, liar, or bank robber, but he’s saved; he’s just “carnal.” Yet, as we can see in James 2, an empty profession of faith—one that does not result in a life of obedience to Christ—is in reality a dead faith that cannot save.
The other error in regards to works and faith is to attempt to make works part of what justifies us before God. The mixture of works and faith to earn salvation is totally contrary to what Scripture teaches. Romans 4:5 says, “To him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.” James 2:26 says, “Faith without works is dead.” There is no conflict between these two passages. We are justified by grace through faith, and the natural result of faith in the heart is works that all can see. The works that follow salvation do not make us righteous before God; they simply flow from the regenerated heart as naturally as water flows from a spring.
Salvation is a sovereign act of God whereby an unregenerate sinner has the “washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” poured out on him (Titus 3:5), thereby causing him to be born again (John 3:3). When this happens, God gives the forgiven sinner a new heart and puts a new spirit within him (Ezekiel 36:26). God removes his sin-hardened heart of stone and fills him with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit then causes the saved person to walk in obedience to God’s Word (Ezekiel 36:26–27).
Faith without works is dead because it reveals a heart that has not been transformed by God. When we have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, our lives will demonstrate that new life. Our works will be characterized by obedience to God. Unseen faith will become seen by the production of the fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Galatians 5:22). Christians belong to Christ, the Good Shepherd. As His sheep we hear His voice and follow Him (John 10:26–30).
Faith without works is dead because faith results in a new creation, not a repetition of the same old patterns of sinful behavior. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Faith without works is dead because it comes from a heart that has not been regenerated by God. Empty professions of faith have no power to change lives. Those who pay lip service to faith but who do not possess the Spirit will hear Christ Himself say to them, “I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers” (Matthew 7:23).
As shocking as Jesus words are in Matthew 7:23; James’ words are equally as shocking, revealing concerning dead faith.
James 2:14 begins a discussion of faith without works and includes a vivid point by James that even the demons believe and tremble (James 2:19). The “faith” of demons is useless, even though they tremble at what they know to be true. People who say they “believe” in God while showing no evidence of faith have a level of “belief” similar to that of demons.
James illustrates the usefulness of works for showing mercy (James 2:13) by hypothetically asking what use it is to have faith without works and questioning rhetorically whether that faith can deliver a person (James 2:14). If the faith is not accompanied by works, it cannot deliver a person from his need, as in the case of a brother or sister who needs food (James 2:15). If the one who has faith does not meet the need, the people with the need remain in need (James 2:16). That faith is dead by itself—it is not useful for delivering someone from a need (James 2:17).
James offers another hypothetical in James 2:18: someone might suggest that people show their faith in different ways (some with works and some without). James disputes that hypothetical, reminding his readers that faith without works is of no use (James 2:20). Before he makes that assertion of the uselessness of faith without works, James addresses the hypothetical person in his example (evident by his use of the singular pronoun, though when he addresses his readers, he uses the plural). James challenges those who believe God is one: even the demons believe that much—and they tremble (James 2:19). The demons aren’t changing their behavior—they are not meeting needs or having mercy on others—despite their knowledge of who God is.
In pointing out that even demons believe certain things about God, James implies that one who has faith but isn’t showing it by his works is in a practical sense of no more usefulness than those demons. One’s faith doesn’t deliver others from need, the works do (James 2:16). One’s faith doesn’t provide mercy to someone, the works do (James 2:13). James further reminds his readers, whom he has already identified as brothers who have faith in Jesus Christ (James 2:1), that Abraham was justified by his works when he offered Isaac as a sacrifice (James 2:21) and that, when Abraham took that action, the Scripture was fulfilled that said Abraham had been justified by belief in God (James 2:23, quoting Genesis 15:6).
James is keenly aware that Abraham had been justified by faith (in Genesis 15:6) more than a decade before he offered Isaac (in Genesis 22). Abraham had been declared righteous by God long before that act of sacrifice, and Paul affirms that Abraham was justified by his faith (Romans 3:28—5:1) and not by works. So, James is clearly talking about a different kind of justification; when he refers to the fact that the demons believe and tremble (James 2:19), James is not talking about justification before God (or God’s declaring the person righteous). Instead, James is talking about an evident or useful righteousness that people can see, a righteousness that shows mercy (James 2:13) and meets needs (James 2:16). James is talking about justification before people—suggesting that one cannot show faith (to people) without good works (James 2:18).
James adds that it would be foolish to think one could demonstrate faith without works (James 2:20). If James is referring to justification by God rather than justification before people, then he and Paul are directly in conflict with each other (compare James 2:24 and Romans 3:28 – see below). Paul’s context is considering how one becomes righteous before God (Romans 3:28), and James discusses how one puts that to practical use. We show our faith to other people by showing mercy (James 2:13) and meeting needs (James 2:16).
The demons believe and tremble (James 2:19), yet they don’t show people mercy or meet needs—their knowledge of God doesn’t result in changed behavior. James expects more from those who are brothers and have believed in Jesus Christ (James 2:1).
But Paul seems to say the opposite: “For we conclude that a person is made right by faith without works of the law” (Rom. 3:28)
Which is it? Are we made right by faith without works or by faith alongside works? Doing justice to the complexities of this interpretive challenge would warrant another article, but here we can say with some confidence that Paul and James are talking about two different things. Similar, yes, but different.
In Rom. 3:28, Paul is talking about “works of the law,” which is likely a technical term for the kinds of boundary markers that kept Jews set apart from Gentiles, such as circumcision and food laws. (Remember Jesus chided the Pharisees for washing their cups and observing laws, without spiritual works). “woes” against the scribes and Pharisees, whom He called hypocrites, meaning they were pretenders who appeared righteous outwardly but were inwardly corrupt. The Pharisees meticulously observed ceremonial laws, such as washing cups, pitchers, and pots, which were part of unwritten traditions meant to ensure ritual cleanliness, but they ignored the weightier matters of the law, including justice, mercy, and faith. Jesus emphasized that their religious practices were hollow, serving to maintain their own reputations rather than reflecting genuine spiritual devotion. He condemned them for using their religious authority to enrich themselves through extortion and exploitation, particularly of the poor, while appearing pious on the outside. Jesus called for a radical inward transformation, instructing them to first cleanse the inside of the cup—meaning their hearts—so that the outside would also be clean, highlighting that true righteousness begins with internal change and includes acts of generosity and restitution. He wants people to understand that their relationship with God is not restored by keeping those laws, but by faith.
But the kind of faith Paul has in mind is the same kind of living faith that James is talking about—a faith that totally reorients how we live in the world. For Paul, faith leads us to surrender to God’s way of life, doing good works that bless and enliven our neighbors by the power of God’s Spirit (see Rom. 6:1-23; Gal. 5:1-26).
This is my understanding regarding faith and works.
God bless you, as only He can and does, all the time
But it is not the outward display of works that proves one’s faith in Jesus.
That is in the heart, that only God truly knows.
When real faith is in one’s heart, what one says out loud is of a lesser importance.
While expressing faith to others in an attempt to edify them about Christ’s salvation being given freely to us, we are naturally judged as to whether we follow up our professed faith by how we treat our fellow man. THAT is the “doing” by which we lay up gold, silver, and precious stones in Heaven as opposed to wood, hay, and stubble.
Too many get this concept confused as to chicken or egg – which comes first? Truly Believing in Christ or acting like you think Christ wants you to act?
I ‘m comfortable with my initial post. What you write is not wrong but it skirts the edge at times.
We are saved by faith alone. What we do from our hearts as believers on earth establishes the depth of our relationship with Christ & the Father which I am guessing we will likely come to understand in our eternal life.
His Grace upon you.
Hi GB Bari,
I did state that the error in regards to works and faith is to attempt to make works part of what justifies us before God. The mixture of works and faith to earn salvation is totally contrary to what Scripture teaches. Recognizing the errors of making works justification, my first point is accepting that teaching about faith is consistent across multiple biblical passages; which uniformly state that (belief in Christ is the condition) for receiving eternal life. Foremost and uppermost and necessary is Faith – that is the “condition” to receive (freely given, divine gift – not a command. God does not force us to believe, to accept anything He proffers. Salvation is a sovereign act of God whereby an unregenerate sinner has the “washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” poured out on him.
I don’t know about acting like I think Jesus wants me to act. All I accept is what Jesus Himself said regarding what I do, from the heart in spirit and in truth, in normal everyday life, regardless of circumstance, culture or social status.
Jesus won’t be warning us about “fruits” – what kind of fruits? To bear fruits what is involved and how?
“By their fruits you will know them ..” and his explicit ending statement that doing the Will of The Father “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”. This statement is where Jesus emphasizes that true entry into the kingdom of heaven requires doing God’s will, not merely professing faith through words.
This is not to argue with you. Where I quote Scripture it is my belief because for me therein is Truth. I want to point out that my first points, were mainly centered on responding to your one statement “there is no emphasis from either the Father or the Son on “doing” over “believing.” Not in the Bible / New Testament.. “Doing” the Will of the Father means believing in the Son and His promise to believers. Of course we should strive to ray up the father and repenting of our sins, and to live as righteously as we are able.
Yet eternal life (heaven) is promised to all those who simply believe. The necessity of “doing” (works) was according to The Law (Old testament, Judaism) before Christ came and sacrificed Himself for us on the cross.”‘
The key as you well state “we are naturally judged as to whether we follow up our professed faith by how we treat our fellow man. THAT is the “doing”. I disagree your followup in your question as to which comes first .. about “acting like you think Christ wants you to act?”
I agree too that “When real faith is in one’s heart, what one says out loud is of a lesser importance.” That was the whole point Jesus taught and rebuked the Pharisees for. Public praying in public squares, His warning about ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers” (Matthew 7:16–23).
I will conclude with where you state;
“What we do from our hearts as believers on earth establishes the depth of our relationship with Christ & the Father ..” and ”
THAT is the “doing” by which we lay up gold, silver, and precious stones in Heaven as opposed to wood, hay, and stubble”
What we (do). Our relationship with The Father has already been established when we accept Jesus Christ, Son of God the Father, whose sacrifice on the Cross enables total adoption as sons and daughters of God. Through receiving The Holy Spirit (Third Person of God) we are empowered to live the lives God wants us to, not what or how we want to. As in “when I was a child I talked like a child ..” 1 Corinthians 13:11
and, When Jesus tells Peter that when he was young, he could dress himself and go wherever he wanted, but when he grew old, he would stretch out his hands, and someone else would dress him and lead him where he did not want to go. This statement is understood as a prophecy of Peter’s future martyrdom, indicating a loss of personal freedom and control. (John 21:18)
I believe that most believers may not (though thousands have – the ) suffer martyrdom or be put to the test when we encounter a sword at our hearts or throats. Jesus already offers His Yoke for us to be hitched to and His Peace which is not of This world; which we rightfully and fully claim; when Jesus explicitly exhorts us to take up His Cross, and to follow Him by carrying our own crosses that involve sufferings. 1 Corinthians 13:11 and John 21:18) underscore the theme of discipleship, to take up (action) our own crosses where following Christ may require surrendering one’s own will and embracing suffering, even unto death.
Suffering is part of Christian life for all who believe and follow Christ. For many I know personally regardless of where I have worked and lived, it is real. Yet the common grace is the unseen knowledge of the Peace of Christ, these people are happy, yet suffering; some under impossible burdens any human can bear, and through time (later meeting or with contact, to know and to seen the results of God’s work and graces) they have been brought through. There are countless testimonies of how people came through such sufferings ending up in better places and then some impossible to believe places for having endured through not giving in to sin while doing good; persevering through situations they are not responsible, through imprisonment; and, for and many, coming through severe to miraculous healing in health. All common, doing nothing visibly, outwardly in many cases; yet with spirit in action “follow the command”, “with faith”
“Take up your cross and follow Me”.
May Almighty God, our Father, bless you and yours abundantly each day and every day; for all you pray for, all whom you pray for, what you pray for, that His Will be done and only for His glory.
So for myself similarly, I pray,
All through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour
AMEN!
Have a good weekend.
