Shortly after the deadly crash in Florida with the illegal Indian driver, (who seemed completely UNBOTHERED by the deadly accident as it happened) I read where Indiana Highway Patrol was working with ICE to find and remove these drivers as they travel through Indiana. So after having read that I called the MO Highway Patrol to inquire about this as I live in MO. They said they had been working with them also on a similar thing, but many of our officers were in Chicago helping out up there. What a freaking wreck and disaster democrats are. They build NOTHING and destroy EVERYTHING that is good!

I can relate, Betsy. As a Grammy whose 4 grandkids got their driver’s licenses this year, I fear every moment that they’re on the road in the People’s Republic of NJ. I pray for God’s protection over them each morning and night.
We bought each of them a St Christopher visor clip when they got their “new” pre-owned cars..
My husband who has taught many to drive and pass their onerous tests in the UK taught all three here. And he told each one that he could teach them to pass their tests, but they would only learn to drive after, which is true.
Subsequently, each one has been in an accident, none of which they were at fault, cars written off, but none injured. Thank God.
One happened when a drunk illegal drove at speed through a red light just as one grandson (who had waited the few seconds after the light turned green to make certain all was clear, just as he had been instructed to do) entered the cross section.

There are on line courses and lots of free safety tips for interstate driving on line. Perhaps your grands could be encouraged to go that extra mile to be a more aware and safer driver.
As for laws its more a matter of enforcement of existing laws and forcing shady trucking companies who hire illegals or unqualified drivers to close and pay for their actions.
States are starting to screen for emglish language at the ports of entry (weigh stations)….and to double check for english at traffic stops………more is needed.

Large commercial vehicles are required to stop for inspections at weigh-stations along most interstate highways.
Put State Police, ICE and perhaps Federal DoT inspectors at every weigh-station to check the CDLs and verify status of drivers. Arrest all illegals and impound their trucks. Pull the CDLs for all the bogus licenses issued by CA, NY, IL or others with “No Name Given.” Administer a quick field English proficiency check and sobriety check.
Do the same thing at all major ports and rail-hubs where trucks pick up or drop-off loads. Usually there are lines of trucks waiting. Check them while they wait.
Make spot checks to truck-stops, freight companies and other locations.
If a state refuses to cooperate, pull their federal highway funds.

The Internet is postulating that a simple change to the liability laws would improve the quality of the drivers in the trucking industry. … Currently, a business can use a low-cost trucking company to ship their products, without entailing too much liability. According to the news, some of the low-cost companies have solo drivers when two drivers should be in the truck. Supposedly, the truck driver wages are much lower now, because of the usage of unqualified drivers. Plus, there is a lack of adequate insurance.
Simply changing the liability laws to require a type of ‘due diligence’ on the part of the >shippers to choose a well insured trucking company with well-trained drivers would result in more qualified drivers. [That can read English, know the driving laws, and understand the road signs.]

Several years ago there was a horrific semi accident on I-70 East bound out of the mountains near Golden, CO. Driver was a Cuban National riding defective brakes down a 6% grade. Traffic on I-70 was at a standstill during rush hour due to another accident ahead. The semi driver rear ended vehicles at a standstill going near 100mph, killing four people and injuring numerous others and setting most everything on fire from impact, he survived unscathed. Was either not able to read English road signs, or neglected or fearful for his own safety to take one of several runaway truck ramps while driving out of control down the mountain. It was found out later that the company he worked for had numerous citations, was from Mexico and had their office in Houston. Their company insurance was for a total of $750,000! Guessing this was one of the B/O good hearted business/peoples invited into this country to wreak havoc on our roads. This accident was similar to the one yesterday, with little national media attention.

All this talk about ” no name” driver licenses- people do not know what they’re talking about. There are people who came from other countries ( East Asia) who only have a last name. I have no idea why but that’s what their passport shows. Here in US when they get their documents, there has to be something under the first name. The uniform way to deal with this is to write “No Name Given” instead of first name and then the last name.
So what are you talking about? The license says, “no name given.” Do you think that’s okay somehow? Do you think if you went into the DMV and refused to give your name you would get a license? This system is grotesque and it’s killing people. It’s indefensible.

For the last two years I have worked with a company which receives frequent semi-truck deliveries.
In that I would estimate 90% of the drivers I dealt with were not American citizens, and many of them spoke so little English that communicating with them was difficult. Several times the drivers were in the wrong location and were lost.
In one instance a young Spanish-speaking(?) woman showed up with a delivery van bearing Tennessee plates. This person did not speak or understand a single word of English and could not comprehend that I was telling her to back the van up. I’m still unsure what language she may have been speaking as she didn’t appear to understand basic Spanish words such as “Right” and “Left.” It may have been Central American indigenous language. She almost non-verbal so it was hard to tell.
After several minutes she whipped out a phone and used an auto voice translator to understand what I was saying. Incidentally, these translation programs- and phones in general- are another and underrated problem as immigrants and illegals do not need to bother even attempting to learn English or integrating into society.
Presumably, this young woman who did not understand English- and possibly Spanish as well- had driven from at least Tennessee to New England alone. If she was in possession of a commercial driver’s license, she certainly was not qualified to be driving. In addition to not knowing English she appeared to barely know how to operate the van when she eventually backed it up.
Based on these encounters I began to suspect states were handing out CDLs to illegals, so these high profile vehicular homicides do not surprise me in the least.

This is really discouraging to hear. We’re not even putting a dent in this problem. This is how countries commit suicide. If we don’t take a war-like stance against all of this, this country is going to disappear within a generation or two. It’s not just the CDL licenses, it’s the destructive level of legal immigration, as well as illegal, that will kill us.
Look at the UK. Stopping immigration (legal and illegal) will not solve their problem. They need to enact a program of wholesale ejection of all immigrants from non-Christian countries. If they do not do this, the UK will be an Islamic theocracy within two generations – an Islamic theocracy with nukes. Same goes for France. As someone that spent over a decade driving it is beyond time to open every single weight station 24/7 and pull in every single truck in every state and remove them all.
And prosecute these people in every state that have been selling CDLs to illegals at the direction of SOSs and Governor’s because they are directly responsible for the untold number of Americans that have been killed at the hands of people who do not belong here.

I don’t remember why they were hired… probably because they couldn’t find qualified Americans to drive cross-country. I know of an independent truck stop just to the west of Allentown, PA near I – 78 that caters to Indian and Latino drivers. (The population of Allentown is 55% Latino).
Purely anecdotal however in over 30 years as a fireman it’s only been the last 8 months to a year when I recall at least 3 fires on roadways involving semi trucks, where the fire appears to have started in the wheel hub brake area or failed suspension/air bags causing rubbing/ friction leading to a fire.
As they were happening I thought I can see how this could happen, however it historically had not because commercial drivers license were very closely regulated and not easy to obtain.
The last incident I had I requested Highway Patrol Commercial Officer (pickup truck, specializing in Commercial Drivers and Vehicles) because it was clear the vehicle was not safe to operate and the operators were considering trying to dry another 140 miles down the highway.
After this thought came to me, I was reminded of a video semi truck fire in Georgia we were watching for training at line up that appeared to start between the tractor and the trailer.
The Battalion Chief arrived on scene first and in trying to help his engine crew was killed in an explosion while attempting to open the doors at the rear of the trailer.
I haven’t seen the final LODD report so I don’t know the circumstances around the cause of the fire.
It would be interesting if there is a significant increase in semi truck fires documented in the nationwide NFIRS reporting system.
And also if NTSB or a similar nationwide law enforcement reporting system picked up an increase in vehicle accidents with Commercial Vehicles.
Point being, lack of inspection and maintenance is a ticking time bomb for these heavy vehicles not just the faulty unsafe operation.
This would start to provide some data to reveal the true carnage or lack there of on our roadways.

In truth, the DOT reports that 98% of all car-truck crashes are the car’s fault – but if the lawyer can find that ANYTHING was out of spec on the truck, then it’s the truck driver’s fault, no matter what. So a lot of Americans quit the industry, leaving the companies scrambling for a new crop of fall guys to hold those steering wheels.

My whole life I had such respect for 18-wheeler truck drivers. I could count on them to drive safely. In turn, I respected their size and weight, gave them a wide berth, stayed out of their blind spots and flashed my headlights to clear them to return to the right lane.
After Covid and especially In the last 3 years, I noticed them driving too fast and changing lanes erratically. Almost like they were driving a car. They followed too close and rarely stayed right.
Little did I know the men and women I had respected and shared the road with my whole life weren’t in those driver’s seats anymore.
Yes, the drivers have changed quite a bit. Also, the trucks have changed too. Many of those older trucks had 13, 15, or 18 speed manual transmissions that required skill to shift smoothly, and in a timely manner, to be able to optimize available engine power. Today’s trucks, with their substantially higher horsepower ratings, coupled to automatic transmissions, have reduced the skilled truck driver to not much more than a steering wheel holder. Stomp the throttle and hold the wheel. It doesn’t take long before the truck’s speed exceeds the steering wheel holder’s limited skill set.
