Trump tariffs: ‘He profits when our economy implodes’: Trump’s commerce secretary under fire over market crash – The Economic Times
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has slammed US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick of having a conflict of interest and being “indifferent” toward the stock market selloff induced by the introduction of tariffs because of the latter’s fund, Cantor Fitzgerald LP’s exposure to bond investors. Ackman accused Lutnick of profiting from the expected collapse of the US economy.
Bill Ackman also said that America was heading toward a self-inflicted “economic nuclear winter” as a result of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policy rollout.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ackman said that the real reason Lutnick is indifferent about the US economy crashing is that he is counting on it. Referring to the financial services firm, Cantor Fitzgerald, that he led for 35 years before joining the Trump administration, Ackman said, “He and Cantor are long bonds. He profits when our economy implodes. It’s a bad idea to pick a Secretary of Commerce whose firm is levered long fixed income. It’s an irreconcilable conflict of interest.”

It’s hilarious – Ackman, a hedge fund manager who has a majority of his multi-billion dollar fund in just 3 stocks and has historically backed Dims.
Poor thing doesn’t understand that tariffs aren’t what might destroy the US economy, but save it – with debt, both US and worldwide debt, being the ticking time bomb.
Also is obviously financially oblivious, as the market has more than recovered from the April tariff panic and is up some 40% since and still up over 10% for the year after Friday’s dip.

To compound SeaShell Sallies attempted foray into financial commentary by quoting Ackman, she doesn’t even know what Cantor actually does. The financial services part of the company is into everything – stocks, bonds, crypto, metals – you name it. A “crash” would be bad just as bad for them, as it would every other financial company that didn’t have the majority of their investments into just 3 stocks like Ackman’s.

Tariffs are normal. They’re taxes. But we were paying them and not collecting them!
Market still seems ok to me. It’s manipulated all the time anyway by TPTB so where it goes is anybody’s guess. The tariffs seem to be ok right now too. Ackman doesn’t seem real credible because of his status as a hedge fund guy and he surely is biased.
This blip with China was interesting but it seems to have calmed a bit. What China is doing is a guess too, but what do I know about anything really. All will be revealed as it starts to occur.

There are several ? one could ask. He has told us from the beginning of the 10/7 massacre that he supports the country of Israel’s right to avenge those deaths and atrocities.
Saw him on Maria’s Sunday show in a clip on YouBoob. Watched 4/5 of the clip where he says open the government then schedule some talks. I realize we control the horizontal AND the vertical and I’m personally inclined to give the dims no quarter. I’m not a political genius but what is it with this guy?
