It’s been said that “Peace is the Prize.” That’s not enough for this fatigued taxpayer. I want a Peace Dividend. It’s not enough to no longer fund forever wars. I want payback for the trillions already spent and the thousands of lives lost or destroyed. It’s a bitter pill to know my money funded their deaths.
President Trump, the master negotiator, is hopefully giving the US taxpayer an equity interest in Gaza Disneyland. It’s not enough that American companies can make money in the rebuild. How will the US taxpayer be compensated?
Perhaps in conjunction with Peace in the ME, we can now drastically adjust the Dept of War’s mission to defending our boarders and shrink its size in the process. This would at least give rise to less of a future tax burden.
There are definitely places we shouldn’t be, but don’t think that a reduction in forces is wise to defend our nation – which is more than defending our borders.
What I do definitely think should happen is that ANY country where are troops are – effectively providing defense of said country and its neighbors – should pay a MAJORITY of the operational costs involved with said base.
Another way to reduce the future tax burden is to require a percentage of ALL foreign weapons sales by US companies to go to the treasury in the form of cost reductions for our military purchases, as those sales are often based on government diplomacy and activity. One could think of it as “most favored nation status” for ourselves…

There are a ton of deficit reduction actions that could take place – ranging from passing a law that forbids ANY taxpayer money being given to ANYONE who is not a US citizen or to anyone who has been a citizen for less than 5 years to eliminating the “sit on your arse and collect taxpayer funds with your legs up in the air” policies to ejecting all illegal aliens and FOREVER barring anyone who enters or tries to remain in our nation illegally from becoming a citizen. Then there are things like no taxpayer money to any educational institution with an endowment that is greater than $100M to no federal funds for “the arts.”
Those rather expensive, dangerous hammer weapons should come down in price, I say.

Regarding those super expensive common day items – that’s a regulatory problem.
When instead of going down to the local hardware store to buy that hammer, they require 100s of thousands of dollars in testing to show that it will work under all environmental conditions, hold up to forces in multiple axis simultaneously, be manufactured using specific processes decreed by the government, and want reams of formal documentation that is reviewed and subject to approval for all of it, while only being willing to buy a 100 of them, you take a simple, inexpensive item and jack the cost up to ridiculous values.
Which “boarders” are those, and how much are we charging them for their meals?

I am reminded of something I had read somewhere concerning ancient artifacts.

China called U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on Chinese goods hypocritical on Sunday and defended its curbs on exports of rare earth elements and equipment, but stopped short of imposing new levies on U.S. products.
Trump on Friday responded to Beijing’s most recent export controls by imposing additional tariffs of 100% on China’s U.S.-bound exports, along with new export controls on critical software by November 1.
“Our relationship with China over the past six months has been a very good one, thereby making this move on Trade an even more surprising one,” Trump said.
RESPONDING TO TRUMP
The Chinese commerce ministry’s statement on Sunday was Beijing’s first direct response to Trump’s lengthy Truth Social post on Friday, where he accused Beijing of suddenly raising trade tensions after an uneasy truce was reached six months ago between the world’s two largest economies, allowing them to trade goods without sky-high tariff rates.
The commerce ministry said in an equally lengthy statement that its export controls on rare-earth elements followed a series of U.S. measures against China since bilateral trade talks in Madrid last month.
Beijing cited the addition of Chinese companies to a U.S. trade blacklist and Washington’s imposition of port fees on China-linked ships as examples.
