A 150 grain 30-06 cartridge will have a flat trajectory up to around 270 meters.
If the glass was zeroed, there would be no reason for a range finder or any form of dope..
Not a difficult shot.

A hunter learns fast to think of a drafters 30 60 90 triangle.
The distance of the shot both downhill and uphill is the long side but the distance gravity acts on the bullet is the short side on the bottom.
So when shooting both downhill and uphill you know the Bullet will hit high, and compensate by aiming low.
This guy probably aimed at the heart and got the neck by accident.
A 30-06 zeroed at 100 yards will have around 3-4″ of drop at 200 yards. Hard to say how much elevation there was. As he dropped off the building, the roof looked to be about 20′ or so. Allow another 20′ of drop to the target and the 200 yard shot becomes 201 yards. Not that big of a difference distance wise, so not much error due to the angle of the shot.
There’s no telling where he was aiming, except at Charlie.

You are right the vast majority of 30-06 rounds will have a 3 inch + drop at 200 yards, except for a tiny minority of manufacturers.

In demonstrations I have seen police dressed as skate boarders with baggy pants and a thick hoodie carry a full length shot gun into places. He has the butt up under his arm pit and the barrel down to his knee and is holding the gun at the grip with his hand in its pocket.
I have a sixties era German Mauser comercial (non military) bolt action .30-06. They were imported by Interarms and called Mark X.
I got mine out of the safe and looked at it and figure it can be done but you would have to practice with it, and I’m 6-1 and weigh 245.

This is what they are hoping for.
Every call traced. Every tip giver thoroughly investigated. Every website, email, text message, phone call, geo-location, purchase, personal contacts, gone through.
They might even know several of those already arrested and let go are actually part of the plot and they let them go to see who they talk to. If so you can be assured they are also under complete surveillance.

DD- there was a note out yesterday that among other things stated that the authorities would need to disassemble the rifle to access specific “importer information”.

My own 60s model mauser with the barreled action unscrewed from the stock ( 2 screws) is too long for a daypack backpack like his, both in the stock and the barrel.
He would have to cut down the butt like a boys rifle, and cut about 8 inches off the 24 in barrel. Actually about 23 and a fraction because it’s made metric in centimeters.

There was a video posted yesterday of the subject walking and running through a neighborhood that clearly showed him limping. There were also photos of the shooter.
However – this is beginning to smell like the Butler, PA shooting …and other events, such as January 6, Charlottesville, etc.
Where’s the gun in any of the photos and video? So how did the gun get into the woods wrapped in a towel?
Why did we get a map with the trajectory laid out within the first hour after Charlie was shot? Who did made and released that?
Is this person in the videos another patsy, like the Butler shooting, who is going to be shot before he can say anything?
Narratives are being built.
Some are building a narrative that Charlie was turning against Israel, so that’s who killed him.
More likely, Charlie was a big threat to both the communist power mad evil left – the Pelosi, Newsome, Schumer, AOC crowd – and the RINOs – the Romney, Ryan, Bush, McConnell crowd – with his influence over young people – the clean cut happy, normal majority of young people.
Millions more of the younger generation voted for Trump last election and millions more would vote again because of Charlie. That’s a motive for stopping him.
