Internet users found the shooter’s social media accounts {SEE HERE} and provided additional information, including a video uploaded last night {SEE HERE} prior to the shooting where the suspect outlined his plans and thoughts to his family and friends in advance.
The information shows a very disturbed and unstable mindset. I caution readers that below is some of the information from the video, which may be disturbing given the nature of the events. At least two children were killed in a shooting in Minneapolis during a Catholic school Mass to mark the first week of school, according to police, in a “deliberate act of violence.”

Similarity, the shooter had attended the school for a couple of yrs, not sure re: Robin, although the mother had worked there. The thing I haven’t heard in either case is HOW DID TWO YOUNG, UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE get a hold of the battery of firearms they both acquired? The Covenant shooter’s parents were never shown in photos or described by their homelife. That shooter’s comments in the manifesto seemed to indicate a rage vs upper-class white families who attended the church. Not sure if Robin’s were Catholic. He did think that his vaping habit resulted in cancer, but didn’t want to undergo the yrs of treatment etc.

One thing to note is that as a population, 40 % of transgender individuals are suicidal at some point in their lives. This is extremely high and I would maintain it is independent of going along with their delusions or not. Keep in mind that suicide is self-directed homicide and that individual is extremely dangerous. If they do not care if they live or die, the do not care if you do either.
If “red flag” laws were fair and given the statistics on mental illness in the transgender community (i.e. all of ’em), being diagnosed with gender dysphoria would preclude that person from owning firearms. That, and the SSRI’s, hormones, chemical castration drugs, anti-psychosis drugs might also be a “red flag”.

Knowing several parents who have been faced with “gender-confused” children, it seems to me that the ones who jumped in to immediately “affirm” their children are the ones who probably now have the most regret, although some of them are still unwilling to admit it!
The parents I know who cautioned a slow calm approach, who confirmed their unconditional love (but NOT their unconditional support) and who stayed involved, but refused to cater to unrealistic demands, are the ones who are now seeing their children coming back around, maybe still with issues that need to be addressed, but without surgical/pharmacological damage that can’t be reversed!

As it happens, I attended morning Mass today at a church where today is the first day of school, so of course the priest mentioned that, and was in good spirits about it. (This was of course about an hour before the shooting happened in Minneapolis.)
Coincidentally, today happens to be the feast day of St. Monica, who became a saint by persevering in prayer for her wayward sinner son Augustine for 30 years that he would become a Christian. So the priest spoke about this situation. Augustine had a live-in girlfriend and a child born outside of wedlock. His mother Monica took your approach, vikingmom, of unconditional love but NOT unconditional support. So when Augustine came home with heretical beliefs and showed up to visit his mother, he found that he was not welcome into the house while he held that heretical belief. Every school, every church, every gym, every daycare, school busses and more….all should be required to use bullet proof glass from now on. Every entrance and exit needs to have an armed guard and an auto lock mechanism. Any place where guns are not allowed to be carried this needs to be done. Churches where I live have security for Sunday services, for events, and for religious schooling, mostly held at the churches. Most adults conceal carry where I live. People are more civilized and polite. Our community is diverse with many different ways to worship and all are welcome. I’m so thankful to live where I live. I’m heartbroken about what happened at that church. Children are innocent. Necessary changes must be made. Protect yourselves and those you love. You may have to move. There are safer communities. Find one.

High percentage of concealed carry where I live as well – very high in fact – and everyone is well mannered, seemingly joyful, many outright showing humor. Our LEOs are serious about crime. We have concealed carry volunteer security in our church services, identifiable as such only to those who know what to look for. I left OC a few years ago for the South. Having had a legal career in the courtroom, I began to see how things were deteriorating and knew it was time to bail.
Didn’t we learn this yet? – Quarantine the sick. It does no good to try to quarantine the healthy.
Don’t lock up the normal people and force little children to live in fear behind bulletproof glass.
Lock up the mentally ill people and keep them behind the walls of mental institutions until they have proven they are healthy enough to be free.
But this all requires ordinary people to have the courage to call out danger when it is clear. We can’t pretend and hope it goes away.
Where do we put people who suffer from mental issues?
Unfortunately a good friend is dealing with his 28 year old daughter who just attempted suicide and survived, in less than 2 weeks she is back home with mom & dad. This is southeastern Mich. and the help and assistance for a situation like this is almost none, some private options that no insurance will assist with and the price is off the charts.
So what do we do with people that should probably be committed somewhere?
Where do we put people who suffer from mental illness?
I’ve heard this lament probably hundreds of times, there is no good answer. I believe, for people who have run out of treatment options and have run out of funds, the best they could try to do is change their loved one’s environment, go across the country and stay with a relative, go camping, something.
Something different.
I base this theory on a story I read of a well to do family whose child wanted to enter the “transgender” world – and they kidnapped her and took her for a year long voyage on their boat. It worked.
Had a childhood friend who was among the first wave of “techies” to Silicon Valley in the early 80s – brilliant, but with family history of mental issues…was given marijuana laced with PCP at a party and had a complete psychotic break. He never recovered and has spent the past 40 years in and out of rehab, treatment facilities, halfway houses, and sadly, a lot of time just on the streets.
His widowed mother paid for private facilities for decades, where he was safe and could be given medication to keep him somewhat stable. He would do simple manual labor jobs during the day and then return at dinnertime, where he would be given three hots and a cot, along with his meds.
No, there is very little help and once the parents pass away, or run out of money, the “kids” no matter their age, are out of luck and usually spiral down until they overdose or end up in prison!
People with mental and emotional issues need to be removed to an inpatient treatment facility.
In almost every case their issues are a combination of internal factors (biochemical, physiological) and external factors (living situation, drug use, trauma, relationship problems, social pressures, etc.)
How do we think we can treat the underlying problems if we leave that person immersed in the same environment where they developed their issues?
They need to be removed from their existing environment and put someplace controlled, aka a treatment facility. They need to be removed against their will if necessary.
After they have been removed to a new, neutral environment there is a far better chance we can isolate the real causes of their problems and try different methods to help them address their problems. That is going to to be far more effective after they are taken out of their old situation.
… and I should add… In addition to the Internal and External causes there are also likely Spiritual issues. Many of these troubled people have a huge spiritual emptiness, a void they cannot fill. They have a big G_d-shaped hole in their lives.
It would be difficult to do this in a publicly funded treatment facility but many of these folks could heal better if they found meaning in their lives by being introduced to G-d.
Here again it would be much more effective to remove them from their old situation, remove them from whatever influences and bad situations they were dealing with. Give them a new beginning with new meaningfulness. Perhaps even help them be born again anew.
After reading this “goodbye note,” I only came away with one thing: pure utter selfishness. He mentioned multiple times for people to forget him when in actuality that is the last thing he wanted or he would’ve just committed suicide instead of murder then get shot by someone else. True, he was sick in the head but also sick in the soul. This was all about him and wanting his name out there as some hero. Hope no one ever mentions his name again.
