U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet today in Anchorage, Alaska for a peace summit to discuss parameters for a ceasefire in Ukraine. The entire world is watching closely.
Anchorage, Alaska is four hours behind the Eastern time zone. The venue is Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage. Use this discussion thread for anything related to the day’s events, specific as they relate to the summit.
President Trump will depart the White House early morning ET. Trump is expected in Anchorage mid-afternoon Eastern time, Friday. The initial meeting with Putin is expected to take place at 3:30 pm ET (11:30 am local) with just the two leaders and translators.

My Stage 4 TDS friend finally, grudgingly acknowledged some of his economic successes but then whined, griped, and complained about “how long it’s going to take” as though successfully turning the Titanic-USA away from the iceberg happens immediately.
He will never be able to make any of these people content. But we see that same attitude here in this comment section when PDJT and his Team have a few successes and people arrive here to complain about every injustice that has happened to people and our society and why he still hasn’t taken care of THAT problem. That complaining attitude is the one that will keep people dissatisfied with PDJT no matter what he accomplishes and will successfully lessen appreciation for what he has accomplished thus far.
I choose to be grateful for the magnificent work that he and his team are doing while acknowledging that some of these issues may take God’s intervention just like when PDJT turned his head and a bullet did not kill him.

These sort of summits are more for optics and public consumption. These guys have phones. They and their staff talk all the time.

IMHO, there is something about the face to face meetings and communication…which also afford the opportunity for “The Gentleman’s Handshake”, which is a very important optic.
Another way to say it…”These guys” are of another generation that while of necessity, may be glued to their phones, but also know the value of face to face contact.
You can’t replace face to face conversations. It is in these settings that subtleties can create a more amicable relationship. Where you get past the sterility of digital conversation.
Politics is optics, always has been from the beginning of human governance. These optics are important, probably even more that what is being said.
Face to face always has its advantages. You can write, you can call but without the vision its just words.
That was my thinking, too. I suspect these men have already talked and made their decisions/agreements and the summit is for public consumption.

The lists for both sides look heavy on finance/business and light on military. Seems to me that there would be at least one big shot general for each side if the military situation on the ground is to be addressed. Putin also recently said that the Istanbul peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are also continuing.
This meeting looks to be laying the groundwork for cooperation between the US and Russia in multiple areas rather than a place where specific moves toward peace in Ukraine (e.g. land swaps or ceasefires) will be addressed.

And the US isn’t fighting the Ukraine war with its troops. At least on paper, we are only providing material at their request to support their defense.
The US military should be more concerned about Arctic Ocean defense, Russian missile treaties, and what to do about Iran and China.

Hosting this summit at a joint base in Alaska was a stroke of genius. It’s too far for the rent-a-mob to travel, and they can’t get on the base anyway. I am not sure of the facts but Putin is definitely capable of such things. Later in the program Kelley interviewed David Carter whose supposition on the current meeting was Putin’s intention to lure Trump with Russian business deals and to forget the evils of the Ukraine invasion.
I know Trump is smart enough to recognize any Putin subterfuges but any deal is tricky and subject to much caterwauling and second guessing.

I know the people of Ukraine are so done w the War, but they refuse to give land to Russia. I dont blame Putin for not wanting NATO on their doorstep, but? I do think its unfair Zelensky isnt there worthless as he is, also the People arent happy about no one to represent their Country/them, making decisions etc. Prayers for everyone involved
Zelenskyy holds office illegitimately. He suspended elections. His term expired. Thus, he is a dictator. His presence would merely serve to taint the summit.
That said, what would be the outcome if he travelled to Alaska and was detained indefinitely? Asked in only partial jest.
JMO but in war the spoils go to the victor. Just like Berlin was divvied up between the victors, so too in my opinion should RUS get to keep the land they won through warfare (not to mention it was historically part of RUS as UKR hasn’t even been a country long). Zman didn’t defend his territory even though be ignoring the Minsk Agreement UKK had many years to build up their army to defend their land. They lost the war and in the process their land.
I believe that Ukraine is not the only subject
that will be discussed.
One thing would be the….START Treaty.

Trump is very practical. He knows that with Zelensky as the Ukraine ‘Leader’ there will be no Peace Deal signed. The very best he can hope for is a short cease fire.
But what he will do is work on some long term issues to try and stop this from happening again in the future. I suspect that some part of that will be a means of communication and decisive action when either of the Nations Intel Communities goes astray as ours has here.
This will no doubt infuriate the Deep State and I would not be surprised to hear Trump called a Traitor at some point in the not too distant future.
