During my journey (late beginner) I was “instructed” on the separation between belief and faith. I had always presumed them to mean almost the same thing. “I believe in God” was to me the same thing as “I have faith in God” – I.E. in the existence of God. What that actually meant was for me usually a vague thought of some super entity “somewhere” but everywhere. A little disturbing when I really thought about it, considering like most of us, there are too many “scenes” we’d rather have cut. Anyway back to the topic. Mercifully, since then I’ve been blessed to be given a chance to learn and take instruction from “teachers” that just “click” with me – I believe every person has his/her “mentor”, besides years of self study of God’s word and prayer – sometimes guided by the Holy Spirit. So (eventually) to faith – In the biblical account of the Red Sea crossing, a man by the name of Nachshon ben Aminadav (hardly known) is traditionally identified as the first Israelite to enter the sea after it had been parted by Moses. The account goes that after God tells Moses to tell Israel to move forward – into the sea – (like are you kidding??), he is the first (and only) person to take the plunge (at first) – he gets up to his knees – nothing. Now he’s waist deep – still nada. Eventually he’s barely got his mouth and nose above – BUT he keeps going. THIS is faith. And then KABOOM. One person, (just like any of us) on whose faith the entire Nation depended. For better or for worse. The DMB puts it another way. 🙂
Obviously there is a “discrepancy” if it says AFTER it had been parted by Moses, however historically the account recognizes a slight “delay” from the time Moses “directs” the sea to the time God opens the sea. Navel gazing as Garrison would say.
